The ornament for this years party-

These little hummingbirds are made using peanuts, paint, toothpicks, nail polish (because I didn't have any red paint with me), ribbon and gold perle cotton. Oh, and glue, Elmers and hot. The idea is from a Birds and Blooms article, see the link. A friend of mine showed me the photo while I was recently visiting in TX and my friends and I decided that we should make these. A quick trip to the grocery for peanuts and then the craft store for paints and sponges and stuff and we were set!

They are HARD to photograph! They came out really cute and are bright and glossy. I have them in glassine bags with brown crinkle paper at the bottom like a nest and red curly ribbon holding them closed. Bright and sparkly!

I had GREAT assistants, didn't I? We all base coated, then one painted beaks and the other helped me to paint the wing/top area. Then I did the nail polish throats while they fixed snacks and stuff and then we all glued on wings, inserted beaks, glittered the throats, etc. I needed 24 but we did lots of extras so we would each have some to hand out to our friends, I think we ended up doing about 45 of them.

I had other ornies planned, patterns purchased, ingredients accumulated, etc, but I just loved this idea so I'll do my other ideas another year. The party is tonight, so tomorrow I'll show you the assortment of ornaments that I received.

I agree with Janie, make some peanuts using Sculpy or paper mache, Dances. I hope Elmo stays safe this year, yikes! Make sure you unplug those lights when you're not around, Janie. Ideas for the peanut ornies came from pinterest. Adella- get the unsalted, roasted peanuts. Hobby Lobby has that cool yarn, it's by Yarn Bee, Chrysalis/california sister is the color, it's variegated and wild! Here's a link to the directions for the snowmen. I'm with adellabedella. You have to tell the ladies that you can't stopÃ¢ÂÂ¦.we look forward to it. I'm sure the cross is lovely but doesn't show up as well in the picture. My favorite, the clothespin dolls. Reminds of many years ago when I made clothespin place card holders for Christmas. They were a lot of work and I should have collected and saved them over the years, but I didn't. I let the nieces and nephews play with them.

I always hope you'll post your ornament. You have the best ideas and it must've been great having "assistants". Those may be my favorite yet--but it's so hard with all your other neat ones.

I agree with Patti!! The original is cute, but I like yours much better. The colors and the wings look much more professional. Can't wait to see what you get at the party!!

Thanks so much, I'm glad you like them and approve! They were fun to make and really easy. If we hadn't done so many, they wouldn't have taken much time at all.

You and those Texans did a fabulous job! (dont tell them I said so! lol) I like the ribbon you used for the wings... so much better than in the magazine!
