Windows Movie Maker?

I've been working with Windows Movie Maker to make a photo video and am a bit confused. I would next like to try to make a movie of video clips next but WMM tels me it only copies to CDs. Don't understand how a movie can be made on a CD, not of a DVD.

I didn't even know that it burnt to CDs. I've made movies that play on both DVD players and the computer but I do it with another piece of software, but using CDRs.

Maybe it will still play on a DVD player. Sorry, not much help.

Can you save the movie file to your computer and then use your dvd software to burn it to a dvd?

Do you still have the original unedited/unchanged file saved somewhere. You should work with a copy, never the original. Just like pictures. That way if you mess it up, you can make a new copy and start over. From the original file, change it to an .avi file. Then you can import it into Windows Movie Maker. Are you viewing this as your project is being worked on? I have found that until the project is completed and burned - it doesn't look all that crisp. I burn my project to DVD using Roxio. When I view it on a HDTV - it looks great. But, while working on it and viewing it - not so great. I also don't have the problems of pictures being cut off, like I do in other slideshow makers.

I assume you are using Windows XP? It will not burn directy from WMM to a DVD - but there is a way! I do it all the time.

You will need some type of burning software, which, if you have a DVD burner, you probably already have. I use Roxio, but Nero is also a popular brand. I have also used Sonic with great sucess. Probably some free ones that could be downloaded if you don't have any of those.

Here are the steps to be able to burn your slide show or video compilation to DVD.

Under step 3. Finish Movie select SAVE TO MY COMPUTER.

It will take you to the Save Movie Wizard

1.Saved Movie File Name your movie as desired - I rename it so I can tell it is not the original WMM file.

I save it to My Videos - I think this is the default. You will need to locate it later when you want to burn it.

2 Movie Setting choose the 3rd option other settings ...on the drop down of that option choose High Quality NTSC

It will then save it to your hard drive, in the My Videos file. It takes a little while, depending on the size of your project. You will also need some free space on your hard drive.

I have attached a link to Windows Movie Maker forums - you can learn a lot reading over there! That is where I learned how to use WMM.

Open up your burning software to create a DVD (not a data DVD, but a DVD project) - import the correct file from My Videos and burn away!

Thanks a bunch Iowa!! That will do it. I sure wish I knew about that forum before I started my project, would have saved me a bunch of time, thanks for that too. The KT is a great place!!

I have learned a tremendous amount from that forum! I also learned a lot by trial and error (after error after error, lol)

WMM can do some awesome things. I mix still pictures with video for some neat DVD's. Love all the transitions and titles. Very cool.

If you can watch videos on YouTube - they have some tutorials there also that people have put up. A visual aid is very helpful for me.

Thanks again Iowa. The YouTube tutorials are wonderful. Wish I could see some of your mixed DVDs, bet they're awesome. I just started with WMM and am having fun. I'm making a video of generations of pictures for my son. I'm already planning future projects and the forum and tutorials on Youtube will make it so much better and more fun for me. Thanks again.
