Converting MOV files

I have Kodak Easy Share Z710 camera and the file extension for videos I take is .MOV . I want to convert the files so that they can be played on Windows Media Player so I can incorporate them into movies I make with the Windows Movie Maker. I ran across the following after Googling my query.

Once you download the program, select a file and chose 'Convert a File' in the lower left corner. Then choose the output type (for windows media player you need AVI). Make sure to check the bottom box to 'Convert Audio', otherwise the video will not have the sound. Then click 'convert file'."

Is this an safe and effective way to accomplish my goal?

I use the free online zamzar to do file conversions.

this is another good online free option that does tons of various types of conversions
Media-Convert.Com

for programs to install that do this I always check out gizmo's site for his best of list, he usually has excellent choices and safe ones.

I don't know anything about the one you mentioned.

I have used zamzar for years since it first came out and only had good results with it not sure why you don't want to use it. I personally would trust something I did NOT have to install on my pc more than a random program which could install malware along with it. Be very careful if you do pick one to install because funmoods has been hitting so many people from downloads.

Smitty, Thank you so much. I was able to confert my IFO file to a MOV file with your suggestion. justme4now...the AVS4You converter places a watermark on the video unless you have a paid version. Thanks to both of you for taking the time to assist me. ~Tj~

The good news is, I found out that I could export .mov files into mpeg in the camera software. Now I can play movie clips in my version of Windows Media Player and so I assume I won't have to much trouble sharing.

I will have to check out that converter site when I have access to a faster connection.

I tried to convert some quicktime video at Christmas and had no luck with any of the free downloadable converters.

I love using Windows Movie Maker. It is so fun to create projets!
