Everybody thinks I am a good cook, but I am Not!

I just use those recipes here that you peeps post..la, la!

I use Glenda's fudge pie recipe for our family get together every year for the past three years, and my brother in law thinks it is to die for..so I am basking in the glory...last nite we had our senior citizens get together at church and I went all out and took the oreo cookies that are smashed up mixed with cream cheese and dipped in almond bark...oh my, they were a hit! Especially the ladies! Then the pumpkin cobbler # 2, not sure who posted that one, but it got eaten up so it must have been GOOD, (I did't get to get any) and of course I made that fudge pie also. All my dishes were GONE!! TEE HEE! I also made copies of all the recipes and left them by the dishes for the ladies if they like the recipe and I would not have to remember to bring it to an indivual, and they could just pick up a copy if they like it. It gave me a lot of pleasure to make dishes that they wanted a copy. I am really not a good cook, I just had some easy to follow recipes...so thanks to the people who posted them. I love the person who made that website. Thanks soooooooooo MUCH!!!!!

I am talking about the website where you have holiday recipes and easter recipes, and other stuff to boot.

Thistledew, welcome to the club. I feel the same way you do, but we ALL get recipes from other people and the best thing about GW is that everyone's willing to share theirs. I'm another fudge pie fan. In fact, if I try something new and tell Harry it's Glenda's recipe, he automatically likes it! LOL!

The website you refer to was started by Joann FL after she lost a lot of things she'd saved due to a virus. Isn't it just the best?

I know what I should eat, had all those lessons as a child, but all of it justs makes me gag, well, Sauerkraut might do it but I think it might not do my stomach any good, just like the spinach. My son came by and loaded up the refrigerator with about 10 different non-carbonated drinks with plenty of electrolytes. The trouble with that kind of weight loss is that it is just temporary, once the liquid is replaced, back you are to your old weight. Oh well, can't have everything.

barb_roselover_in- You will feel better as soon as you eliminate wheat completely, not just "watch" consumption. There's just not an up-side to eating less compared to eliminating it. Here's a simple option, eat a few plain corn tortilla chips (made without wheat flour) with your soup and chili instead of crackers. Even better, make or buy corn tortillas and cut them into strips/squares/wedges and bake them to make them even lower in sodium and fat. You can also use corn tortillas to make an individual pizza, or use as a wrap.... Do you have a health food store or a "health food/natural food" section in a store with gluten-free items in it? Even our Wal-Mart in this one-horse town has a nice selection of g-f items. The good news, the longer you are off wheat products, the less you find you "need" some food items like you did the wheat-containing versions, like crackers. Wheat is so addictive..... When we first went g-f, I made all kinds of substitutes, but I find I just don't need them now. Break the addiction and break the need for these empty calories. You really can eat soup without crackers. Make your own crackers with almond flour, and I would suggest that over buying g-f brands that are made with high-glycemic g-f flours and starches that raise blood sugar. But saying that, Glutino is a brand you may want to try. I tasted some at a friend's and think they are gritty (a common texture from rice flour) and taste like old-fashioned water crackers, not saltines. One cracker was more than enough, and I wouldn't waste my money on them. Van's Say Cheese! Crackers are a tasty little snack cracker with a slight edge on nutrition, lower in carbs and sodium than most - but a bit high priced. Hubby bought some as a treat for the Super Bowl. Interestingly enough, we ate our homemade potato chips and tortilla chips with some homemade bean dip and salsa and not many of the expensive Van's crackers. Mary's Gone Cracker's are a seedy cracker I sometimes buy to use when traveling. We'll spread peanut butter on them for a snack or emergency "lunch" when traveling. The one thing to check, I think, is if the GC was trying to warn you off. Does he really want to work over the holidays? Do his subs? Are they taking their kids on vacation just when you thought they'd be working? The GC might want the job too much to tell you no-can-do, and figure he can probably make it work out, rather than being eager for your start date. If you're sure he and the subs are on board, go for it! And maybe add an incentive bonus for them to be done, cleaned up and signed off by January 25 (sooner if that's the quote), which gives you a week to get your act together before your party. Plus a penalty if it's not done by February 1. It can be done if everyone's on board. I only worry that less than 2 months over the holidays is awfully tight, if you really want them done in time for the party.

Sue - I am impressed! 5 lbs of flour! I don't think I have ever used that amount even with a couple loaves of bread. And I know I haven't made more than 2 pies at once. You are the Pie Queen! Here is my favorite pie crust. I just started making this last year. Foolproof Pie Dough - makes one 9-inch double-crust pie - The trick to this pie crust is the inclusion of vodka. Eighty-proof vodka, which is 60 percent water and 40 percent alcohol, adds moistness to the dough without aiding in gluten formation since gluten doesn't form in ethanol. Although the recipe includes 8 tablespoons of liquid, the alcohol vaporizes during baking, resulting in a tender crust that only contains 6 1/2 tablespoons of water. Because of the extra liquid, the dough will be moister than most standard pie doughs and will require up to 1/4 cup more flour. Ingredients 2 1/2 cups (12 1/2 ounces) unbleached all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon table salt 2 tablespoons sugar 12 tablespoons (1 1/2 sticks) cold unsalted butter, cut into 1/4-inch slices 1/2 cup cold vegetable shortening, cut into 4 pieces 1/4 cup cold vodka 1/4 cup cold water Procedure 1. Process 1 1/2 cups flour, salt, and sugar in food processor until combined, about 2 one-second pulses. Add butter and shortening and process until homogeneous dough just starts to collect in uneven clumps, about 15 seconds (dough will resemble cottage cheese curds and there should be no uncoated flour). Scrape bowl with rubber spatula and redistribute dough evenly around processor blade. Add remaining cup flour and pulse until mixture is evenly distributed around bowl and mass of dough has been broken up, 4 to 6 quick pulses. Empty mixture into medium bowl. 2. That's a great idea to leave copies of the recipe next to the dish. The person who brought a great dish always promises me a copy, but I never see it!

Also, my DH has a friend whose parents house is "named" ThistleDew! So I always think of him when I see you post.

Went to lunch with my gs's mother, after we went to church, at stopped at the Whistle Stop/Irondale Cafe. On their dessert counter they had FUDGE PIE ;o) and gs's mother reminded me how much she loved when I made that pie.

Remember thistledew, You are THE COOK that prepared those recipes :o)

You mean there's still hope for me, the one dish/one pan/30 minutes prep time 'cook'? I'm not going to look at the recipes unless someone says they are easy. And I'm not telling DH about them, either, so THERE! LOL

I'll stand there with the rest of the NO-cook cooks. I have a very few "special" things that I CAN do fairly well. Period. Most of them from the KT. Thank you one and all.

ChiSue, there are easy ones there!
You can't go wrong with slow-cooker recipes.

My stuffing recipe in the slow-cooker is the easiest thing, and delicious. I'm not sure if the one I make is posted over there or not.

If you need help ChiSue, we'll steer you in the right direction of easy recipes!

My chicken breasts dipped in mustard, melted butter or margarine, worcestershire sauce, then rolled in breadcrumbs is easy AND delicious! Ask Patti.

I roll chicken breasts in mayonnaise,then a mixture of bread crumbs and parmesan cheese, bake 50 minutes. Always a winner!

I just made two fudge pies on Thursday. I made a peanut butter frosting for it and it was soooo good! I'll probably make it that way from now on.

I'm feeling pretty dumb ~ how do I navigate the recipe website? When I click on a recipe nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?

Also didn't see a recipe called fudge pie ???

lefleur1 - you have to click on the heading of the category and then it brings all recipes in that category up. I want to try luckygardner's deep fried avocadoes! Sounds yummy to me!
