Has your regular Google changed to Google France?

Well....mine has!

I haven't been able to find out why either. Have they been hacked into, or perhaps a server is down?

Or worse...have I picked up a virus?

Has your Google changed?

I've checked all the Google settings, and they are the same as they were.

"------As I was melting the butter for the bread recipe, my microwave started arcing terribly. I couldn't figure out why, so I asked Google. It linked me to a forum where someone else posted they had the same problem. One of the responses said that microwaves don't like small amounts of food (I was trying to melt 2 teaspoons), so to place a glass of water in with the butter and it would stop the problem. Well, I did, and it did! ------" Some what off-topic: Re. microwave oven and oil. 1. Butter may contain water. Microwave-ing butter stratifies the fat and water, and the hot butter can start frying the water and splatter all over inside. 2. Be careful with microwave-ing oil in plastic containers. Oil is much hotter than water and can melt some "microwaveable" plastics. 3. There is a microwave guide (window) where the microwave power comes out from the cavity magnetron, this window is typically covered with a sheet of non-conductive mica. Over time, depending on your cooking habits, food stuff can collect on the mica and carbonize by the microwave, and carbon is a good electrical conductor, sparks may fly and the mica window can be destroyed. I have medium stained maple cabinets. As I've followed another thread here today I have remembered how when they first arrived and were put in I was so disappointed and awfully afraid I was that I would always see the blochiness. That hasn't happened. I quit noticing it as soon as the kitchen came together, and everything got put back in place, it just adds to the warmth and character now, IMO. I actually like the unevenness of the finish now. Really. The unevenness of the finish is what separates real wood from laminate imitators -- check out a laminate floor or door, nothing blotchy there, easy to photoshop a picture. "This is no picture," my cabinets seem to be saying. Three years later, I'd even choose maple again -- tough stuff, not a ding or scratch on it yet, with cooks, kids, foster kids, and bulldogs. That's saying something. The picture I added is mid-reno. In the finished kitchen I can't take a distant photo with the island and pendants in the way -- seeing it all at once is really the only way to notice the differences. The left side of the photo is engulfed in shadows, so ignore that (it has similar variations)-- the right side of the photo is an accurate representation of the finish. The place that particularly bothered me was stark change from dark to light when comparing the two base cabinet doors (same cabinet), second and third doors from the right. Those are behind an island now and like I said, they wouldn't/don't bother me at all now.

I too won't allow the extraneous toolbars to be installed on my systems. Actually I have no need for them since I use Opera and to search, I can either highlight text, right click and click search or enter the search term in the address bar. I can even choose which search engine to use by merely putting a lettin in front, for instance g gardenweb will use google to search for gardenweb b gardenweb will use bing, an a will use Ask, e for ebay, etc. I don't even need to type the g for google since I have google set for default search engine. But that's beside the point. As for the question, my only suggestion is that if you have Windows 7, you could try a system restore to a point before the change and see if that makes a difference. Or you could try uninstalling the toolbar, clean your system and install it again. I assume you're using IE? Have you done any Windows Updates in between? That can often affect things and throw them off like this situation.

There are companies that provide digital map data - Navteq is one - but Google may do it themselves. No matter. I think you need to do a search for map support, you're probably limited to the means they disclose. I don't think there are other alternatives. I forgot - for one off visitors, you can also pin your location and then "share" it with them, using the visitor's email address. Digital maps always contain errors and idiosyncrasies. A comparative example - my house is in a gated community for which there's a daytime open front entrance and two always closed back entrances. Depending on the direction I'm coming from, often the easiest access for me is through one of the closed back entrances that operate with a garage door-type RF signal sent by a device or a programmed car button. But not always. The built in Nav system in my not inexpensive German brand car will not take me through the closer open entrance when that's the better choice. Instead, it suggests I drive around to what's the back side of the neighborhood to go through the gate that's closed to the public but that I can open. By contrast, when using Google Maps via Android Auto (same as Apple Car Play) in a different car, when coming from a direction that a back gate is the better choice, it insists I go out of my way to go to the open to the public front entrance. Two different systems, two idiosyncrasies with diametrically opposed consequences. One says one thing, one says the opposite. Once, when visiting the Champagne region of France, when innocently following my Garmin's directions to a center of town location from outside of town and not paying close attention, I realized as the road got unexpectedly narrow that it was routing me along a dirt road through vineyards. It was the shortest route to my destination! Needless to say, I turned around and went far enough in a different direction so that a more suitable route was suggested. Good luck to you, mtv.

Mine is still google france.

I had just updated my Adobe Flasher thing. Wonder if that is the reason! Funny thing though, my husbands lap top is also showing google france!

Since I don't speak spanish this is a HUGE problem...lol

Would by any chance your husband be playing a prank on you by changing your setting? And then changing his on his laptop to play off it being and internet glitch?

I did that once to a boyfriend who would always want to use my computer to 'check his email'. He would always change my computer setting to what he liked. I yelled at him constantly for it and told him to stop doing this. He ignored my wishes.

Soooo, one day after he had left, I went to my computer and saw that he had left his Gmail account open. So I changed the language on his Gmail to Hindi. Bwhahaha. The whole page was in Hindi. It's easy to change back of course with a click on to the 'English' from the pull down. But you have to be able to read Hindi in order to find the word in Hindi for 'English'. Bwhahaha. I'm sure he had to call around for tech support to talk him through the change back.

I think he "got it". I haven't had a problem with my computer setting since.

Well...dad gum...I meant FRENCH! LOL

Once before this happened but that time it was in Spanish and I guess I just had horrid flash backs to not being able to read spanish. By the way, I don't speak French either...hahahaha!

My hubby fixed it! It happened with I down load my update for Adobe Flash. I didn't dump my "cache" he said...I told him I didn't have no "cache' to dump! (smile)

Oh I just read your post dilly dally..hahaha!!!

I would have "spewed" if David pulled that joke on me as I frantically tried to figure out where the french was coming from. He was stumped too but figured it out. Luckily he is a Data Engineer so he stayed calm where as I was emoting all over the living room..so to speak!!!

I just opened Google in Internet Explorer. There is an option to change the language. Did you try doing that? it's under the search bar. I can have it in French if I want it.

Thanks for that info Debby I never noticed that I bet that Debri might have pushed that button not realizing it . I'm glad to know it is there and to avoid it
