What a couple; I don't really care for the names of their other kids, either!!

I actually live a few miles from poor little guy's family--that story was all over the local news a day or so ago.

You do have to wonder what goes through some people's heads, don't you? DH and DD both work with the public are are always coming home with peculiar names--but that one certainly "takes the (birthday) cake", doesn't it?

I'm sorry, but would you give your kid the name "Aryan Nation" if you were NOT racist?
The mother also asked the store to put a swastika on the cake...hmmm seems kind of obvious to me.
Good old Walmart came through though as they are not opposed to doing anything for the almighty dollar.
Let's hope those kids don't grow in to their names...

I read your link AFTER I posted my response. The interesting thing is that I live in So. Jersey, and when I heard the story reported, the family lived near me, and the bakery was a Philadelphia one. I see that in your piece, they're from the north end of the state. Very odd. Wonder which it is?

The worst baby name I have ever heard was when I was working my first nursing job in a NICU at university of Chicago. Somebody named their baby Meconium, which is the black sticky first poop that comes out of the baby. I am not kidding!

It is in Hunterdon County. It was on the front page of the Express-Times on Sunday. If anyone wants to look at all the comments to that story go to the expresstimes.com and click on local news and scroll down. He's also going to be on a radio program tonight.

The worst name I have heard from was told me by my former boss, he had been to visit a friend with a new baby. A black baby had the name (let's see how I can do this)

imagine that poor baby growing up with a name like that? What teasing he must have taken until he was old enough to change it...I hope!!

"He's also going to be on a radio program tonight" Well, it looks as if the family is getting what it wanted .... attention, spotlight, media spots, etc. So sad.

Until now I thought the worst name I had ever heard was that of a schoolmate's sister. My schoolmate was named Jerry Garden, and his sister (you guessed it!) was named Rose.

Some parents are just crazy. Like insane. DS went to preschool with a little kid named Ganja (which is another name for marijuana). I later heard the parents changed his name before he started school. Also heard the parents were in the CPS system. Didn't surprise me.

These people are idiots. Why is anyone giving them all this attention? The news industry is just creepy so often.

People all worked up over a name. Had an uncle named Etheldred. How he didn't wind up in a bell tower with a rifle I'll never know. And how many children of the 60s had kids named Bambi or Rainbow?

When I was a children's photographer I saw a lot of strange names. At the time weather was a popular topic. Autumn, Fall, Summer, Winter, Spring all went through my studio.

I think there's a lot worse names out there. But I also think those parents are wacko.

I am sooooo glad I was a girl, if I had been a boy I would have been Needham Leodis Thedford.

I went to school (in Los Angeles) with a gal named Holly Wood. She had a great personality, though, and was always laughing.

The worst name I ever heard was a gal who called herself "Eh-nee-mah" --accent on the "nee"--but spelled her name (honest) "enema". I wonder if she's the one who named her baby Meconium...

This is timely. I just this weekend found out the possible reason for one of my friend's unusual name.

He only had an initial for a first name, *H*. It was on his drivers license. I caused him grief when he had to fill out forms with his name because they would always hand the form back to him and bark "We need your full name filled in!" and he would have to produce his ID and they would get confused and insist he had a "real name". I had always assumed that his parents did not name him at the hospital and the hospital put in an initial because he had such a common last name and then the parents never got around to having a name put in on the certificate.

I found at at his funeral that his middle name was "Rap". At first I thought it was a nickname he acquired because he did always break into 'rap' sometimes and it drove everybody nuts and sometimes people would tell him to 'knock it off', especially when he made the real LOUD popping sounds as part of it. It hurt the ears. But that was his real name. I never thought the word 'rap' was part of the American lexicon back in the sixties and wondered how that came to be his name way back then.

This past weekend his name came up in conversation and someone told me he had been named after a famous Black Panther in the '60s. I looked it up and it looks like he probably was named after H Rap Brown.

H Rap Brown is famous for his quote "If America don't come around, we're gonna burn it down". He is currently serving a life sentence for homicide. Not quite as bad as naming someone Adolph Hitler.

He "just thought the name sounded cool". Yeah, right. With the other kids' names, who the h-e-1-1 is going to buy that?

And if it was just a cool name, then like any other normal parents they would have ordered the cake with just "Happy Birthday Adolph" and left it at that. He was making a statement, and not a very nice one either.

What, are these parents first cousins....inbreeding?? There is something seriously wrong with parents who hang this kind of name on an innocent kid. At least he won't have to spend his life telling people how to spell his name name. Some parents think it's cute to give a kid a strange sounding name or take liberties with unusual spelling of a common name. Those kids will be spelling their names all their lives. Dottie
