udate on daughters relocation (long)

Well, on Tuesday I drove to Iowa City. Stayed with daughter in the motel room she was living in since the week before.

Wednesday we rented a U-Haul trailer and went over to the apartment and packed ALL of her stuff. Even food.

We were done by about 4 PM, but still intended to vacuum. Since we had not even eaten lunch yet, we left and went to eat. Returned a bit later in her car this time, and vacuumed and cleaned the kitchen and bath room counters etc.

We also packed all her plants at this time.

Her ex boyfriend had returned, with a mattress and box springs, pot and pans, dishes and lights. The lights in that apartment came via lamps, and they were hers, and they were packed. :)

After we cleaned up there, we went back to the motel and collapsed.

Thursday we put our suitcases and her dogs in the vehicles and left fairly early.

We only stopped to rest/run around the parking lot to re energize ourselves, as well as let the dogs out, and to gas up and go potty.

About half way back, in Kansas City, actually just outside I knew where a Walmart is right by the interstate, and we stopped there bought a salad, and fruit and had a "picnic" in the parking lot. We just didn't want to leave the dogs in the car while at a restaurant, besides, Ulrike being a vegan can't find food in just any restaurant anyway.

Our first plan had been, she comes and stays with us till she finds an apartment (I planned to give her a week for this). But, the ex won't let her out of the lease (they signed it together) and she just won't have enough money to afford two rent payments and utility payment (thank goodness the utilities are only in his name).

Now, we were going with a plan B. This would bring her to our unsold house, where she will pay the utilities only.

I didn't have a Kansas map with me, nor did my GPS work. What is it with GPS? Mine is a Magellan, and it just won't work in Kansas. It did that before, but last time I could reset it. Not so this time. ARGH!!

Called home, and Jerry gave me the best routes, since we were not staying on the course for Edmond, as well as a weather forecast.

When we arrived, we had to unload the plants... so sad, most had frost damage. We should have taken them in the motel the night before. Then enough boxes to get the bed out.

Argh again... only sheets are the dirty ones, that the ex slept on.

Thank goodness for good friends. Called Judy, and went over and got a set of sheets for us to sleep on. Made our bed and collapsed again.

Friday we unpacked the boxes we already had in the house or garage, while we let the outside warm up a bit. Then unloaded the trailer and van, before I turned the trailer in.

Since I was near, I drove to visit my "prentent" grand child. What a joy she is. She is already walking (first birthday on December 27!).

Then I helped Ulrike to make the house look good with her stuff (after all, it does get shown.. it is for sale) and then we drove here.

Once again, collapsed.

She drove back last night, and slept her first night back in Oklahoma by herself. Feels GREAT. Talked with her this morning.

Today she goes job hunting. I hope, she can find something that pays well enough to cover all her expenses.
