I assume you have a Windows system, and you're talking about the task bar on the bottom right of your screen which shows programs that are running.

The printer has installed itself to run every time you start your computer. This is how to take it out of the start menu:

Click Start-run-type in 'msconfig' (WITHOUT THE QUOTES). Click on the startup tab, and unclick the box next to your printer entry. This way, it won't start when you turn on your computer, thus it won't be in the task bar.

To add the icon to your desktop, go to Start-All programs-right click your printer icon and then Send to - desktop.

Disregard the HP message about things not working. I immediatly remove all the HP crap that installs when I add a new printer.

Having a lot of that stuff will slow down your computer.

I have my start menu down to four items; my operating system, antivirus, firewall, and a nifty clock program. It's all I need. Otherwise, it takes for freakin' ever to start up! Zone Alarm takes long enough to load, without it having to load every single program I have in there.

I got rid of it in my start up, and even a logitech icon too.

I now have your instructions printed out and added them to my ever growing puter tips folder from the KT. :)
