What a coincidence!!! I just removed it from my programs because it took forever to get on whatever website I was on and went back to AVG. It took up too many resources, in my opinion. Good luck with whatever you decide to do with Norton's.

Their are a lot of times that you could use Hibernate.
This will allow for a fast shutdown and fast turn on.
Start - turn off - hold down on the shift key and
click Hibernate. The more programs you have starting up
will slow down your signon at startup. More Ram would
probably help.
Their is selective startup in msconfig. I don't use it myself.

It doesnt slow anything else down,,,just start up....

Caroline, which version of norton are you using? And you say this time is different. What has changed? What operating system? How old is your computer? I am using Norton Anti Virus 2006 program and it works fine. Are you using only the Anti Virus, or one of the larger programs. More info will help in figuring this out.

Just the virus protection, the in expensive one ,in a box from Walmart.Puter is three yeras old, Winxp and nothing is changed. Just installed the new one like I do every year when it expires. I un in stalled and re did it,and it still loads real slow.As I said ,everything else works great and not slow at all.

I guess you ran the updates after installation. If so, the only thing I can think of is when it was installing for me it asked if I would allow it to run its own firewall and disable Windows Firewall and I said yes. So now if I look in Control Panel, Security, Firewall, it shows as Windows Firewall Disabled. I know running both can mess it all up. Maybe that's it?

Have you tried looking in the scheduled scans yet? Maybe it is set to scan at startup.

No, its not set to scan when it comes on. I set it to scan once a week at 3 a.m.
Yes, I tried to call for help, was on hold for an hour and had to leave for an appointment.Next time Im getting a MaCaffey.I tried that AVG or whatever it is so many of you use. It messed up my puter and i had to take it to the shop.Never again on that>

Wow, I have used AVG for years without issue. What was 'messed up' on the computer? Had you uninstalled the previous antivirus before installing AVG? Running more than one antivirus application will cause problems. McAffee reputedly slows the pc down even more than Norton.
