AR can be an absolute monster to remove. A free application called REVO is regularly recommended here for uninstalling. I would use it in the Advanced Mode. It first creates a restore point, uses the target application's uninstaller, and then searches the drive and registry for leftovers. With AR don't be surprised if there are many. You will have an option as to whether or not to delete the findings. There is no backup so the choice will be yours and lasting. Personally I have never had a regret with anything I have removed which has been identified by REVO, nor do I recall any postings either. DA

Thanks Mikie, I appreciate the link and answer. She seems to have some aversion to using Firefox, though I can't figure why. I tried to explain how easy it is to use, the explanations for what things are and how to use them are understandable, but she won't listen, and installed a different browser. Don't know why she asks for advice then refuses to take it. I gave her lots of options for browser, malware detection, virus detection, and she still managed to get a bunch of crap on her new computer. Don't understand how. The Norton is a 90day pre-install. I think I'm going to give up on the advice. I have a new computer also, and have not downloaded crapware doing installs of this that and the other. I guess I know a little more and understand more of what I do know. Thanks again for the help.

you definitely want to do any updates, many right now are for some pretty serious flaws that have been found so they are security related. Just be sure you watch for anything extra that may be checked to install like toolbars etc, you can uncheck any of those so they do not install, just get the program you want not the extras you don't want.

If you do decide to remove AR please consider using REVO. Since v5.0, AR has been getting larger and larger while integrating deeper into the O/S. It can be a real bugger to remove with it's own utility if you can at all. I've seen corrupt uninstaller reports when trying to do so. Also, if you do decide to install the current version of AR I would suggest removing v5.0 first. My recollection is during the v3.0, v4.0, v5.0 era all too often those who attempted an overwrite actually ended up with two versions installed via the same folder. DA
