Adobe Air, Adobe Reader, Flash Player Plugin

Flash Player Active X.

All need updating. Win 7 laptop.

When I go to the sites to update, it includes a McAfee scan which I see no way around. No box to uncheck.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Mikie! I went directly to the websites (Adobe.com) and they had the McAfee scan. How did you do that???

Laptop hadn't been used for 8 months so there was a zillion updates and took forever.

Snidely's comments about mainstream web sites are right on target. Such sites are usually run by knowledgeable webmasters who know how to keep their site secure and are prompt to take action if the site is attacked. The DML in in my firefox add-0ns When I go to the links that you have provided, it takes me to the very same page that installed this add-on I have Adobe Flash Player 10.0.22.87 And Adobe Flash player plugin 10.0.42.34 According to the Adobe page, the latest version is 10.0.45.2 I clicked on a picture to enlarge the pic on ebay and this message came up. (was not able to get a screenshot) User Account Control Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer? Program name-Adobe DLM Verified publisher-Adobe System Inc. File origin-Hard drive on this computer. file location is c:\Users\Jean\AppData:Roaming:Mozilla\Firefox\profiles\Default extentions(a bunch of numbers)\Chrome\content\getAdobePlusPlus_Adobe_reg.exe If I allow the changes, is this going to install the latest flash player?

I found some step by step instructions from AumHa Forums. A caveat before you start...back up the registry before making any changes. If you don't know how to do this, please ask and I will offer step by step instructions. The steps to uninstall non functioning Adobe Flash Player and replace it with Adobe Flash Player 9 Stand Alone: Download the following two applications: Adobe Flash Player Uninstaller: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_14157 Adobe Flash Player 9 Stand-alone Installer (NB: Link to the Direct Download of the updated executable): http://www.macromedia.com/go/full_flashplayer_win_ie Check in Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs, for any entry "Adobe Flash Player Active X" and uninstall the entry. With no other application running, run the Uninstaller you downloaded earlier. In the Registry editor (regedit), navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Code Store Database\DistributionUnits\(D27CDB6E-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000) In the Left-hand pane, right-click on the key (folder) named (D27CDB6E-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000), and choose Delete. Exit the registry editor. Reboot your computer. With no other application running, run the Adobe Flash Player 9 stand-alone installation you downloaded earlier. Reboot your computer. Thanks for the responses and help. I am not using antivirus and removed the the antivirus before my Adobe problems. I checked/installed updates to Windows and IE. I went to Adobe.com and installed/reinstalled. This morning the issues seem partly fixed. When I am on a web page, such as Yahoo, whether in IE or FF, some of the boxes display and some don't. If I go to a web page page, like Yahoo's tech page, that has mostly boxes that have videos in them, I see the text in the boxes but they are otherwise blank. If I click on the box a video then starts playing. I know this isn't how it's supposed to work, but it's better than it was yesterday. Maybe if I wait till the next Adobe or Windows update it will sort itself out? Thanks for the suggestions. If you think of anything please let me know. I think I will put this laptop away for a week or two and use my Win7 laptop instead. I'll check on updates the next time I get it out and hope for the best.

I would not install Zone Alarm on a Windows 7 computer, if that's what you're suggesting.

What Anti Virus is installed?

The MS firewall on Windows 7 and newer is fine. No need for a third party firewall.

Most softwares If you visit their support sites will have direct downloads. But its not always in plain view. Maybe I've visited support sites too much for too many years.

I never have liked 3rd party firewalls.. but understand some are accustomed to them....

Thanks Mikie, again! It is the same one I tried to install. It has their toolbar. Its almost impossible to get rid of it once installed. They have made it mandatory to take their seach toolbar with the free ZA. Probably even throw it in with the paid version.

Last year you could install by clicking 'skip all offers' but even clicking it installs the search toolbar.

I'm running Win XP and need a firewall.

It does, but they say it's a one way Firewall, you can Google XP Firewall

It's been said that the xp Firewall blocks incoming, but not out going, I'd have to read it again to see exactly how inadequate some claim it is.....

Snidely, it has the old Windows Firewall which is supposed to be unsafe.

Apparently it is a one-way firewall. I'm holding on to my XP desktop and laptop until they croak. Both run well and do what I need them to do.
