Here's a pattern for teeny, tiny knitted mittens...

to go with those darling little socks!

These are just adorable. They'd make a real cute package decoration or ornaments for the tree. Make a tiny hat, add a pair of mittens, sew a pin on the back and you'd have a cute thing to wear on the lapel of your coat.

Peggie- My post was not directed at you at all- I am sorry. I keep getting e-mails every week (originating from my post in this forum) requesting that I either sell my mother's copy of the pattern I mentioned, or that I simply supply a photocopy. I am just tired of getting constant requests simply because I posted the pattern book title last year. I was sharing the information I had to be helpful, and it backfired on me a bit. Hi Sally, They are being knit on five needles (four for in-the-round plus the one without the stitches), but your explanation is still very very helpful! As I understand it, each time you do a new round, you change the number of stitches BETWEEN the decreases, right? When they say to keep in the pattern, is it that they mean the DECREASING pattern? I thought they meant the CABLE pattern that is on the front of the mitten (3 stitches of seed stitch, then a four stitch knit cable, then 3 stitches of seed stitch) so I was trying to do that also). As I understand it now, I would need to do BOTH. Really, I think this pattern assumes a lot. For one thing, you are supposed to knit it on double-pointed needles, but when they describe the seed stitch they say to always do K, P, K. After about an inch I realized that I had to reverse it on every other round because I was always knitting on the right side of the mitten. I guess they just assumed that you would know this, and I didn't. It is the same with the decreasing. It would have been a lot easier for me if they had just "spelled out" every row on the decreasing, as you did in your post. The way you have described it, I kind of get it "conceptually" now. And yes, the pictures do show a nice symmetrical slip over look. One of the problems was that I was always doing 16 (and on alternate rows, 14) stitches after the first decrease. At least, I think this is one of the problems. Now my main problem is tearing out the top of the mitten without losing everything. I wonder if I should just give up on the cable once I start decreasing. Thank you again for your help. I really don't understand why the pattern would not be clearer. THANKS AGAIN!

Darn...that's knitting too...it said crochet in the title before I clicked on it..poohey.

I've tried knitting years ago...hate it...so I went back to my limited knowledge of crochet.

zipper - I looked it up - it is a word - an adjective - in the American Heritage Dictionary on line! Not in the Webster's on my bookshelf, though.

Flamey, these are so cute. I'd love to make a bunch (maybe 12), attach them to a crocheted cord, and use them as a Christmas tree decoration.

I have to go get J from work, so don't have time to look at the pattern. I'll come back and look!

I'm in, Moni! It's gotta warm up some first. The motor home is winterized until spring! I should be knitting on Christmas gifts right now, but made DH caramel corn this afternoon and burned my finger, so I sure don't want to be holding knitting needles tonight!

Moni, you and Zipper and Tami are welcome to descend on me at any time, but you won't be teaching me to knit! lol I've tried and failed so many times, I just give up. Make some of these, though, they're too cute, and SeaShell's crochet pattern is exactly what I was talking about, I have a set like that that I bought in VT many years ago on a ski trip.

I was actually thinking you could fashion some tiny needles out of toothpicks, would that work? And wouldn't it be fun, in a twitchy kind of way, to make a hat or mitten out of toothpicks? lol Size one needles, Lindsey- teeny but challenging!

Mingo, you never know when M & I will show up! I have printed both patterns. We will see how much of my Christmas knitting gets done before I try them, tho.
My brother makes a concoction the kids call his "goop". Its 1/3 aloe, 1/3 tea tree ointment, and 1/3 vitamin E ointment, very slightly warmed in the microwave, and blended together. It is the best thing I've ever found for any kind of burn. You bet I went and found my jar of it! It still has that funny feel to it, but I can knit today. I didn't even try last night. I'll be sure to tell J hi for you.

Lindsey, I've used size ones for my neice's socks for Christmas a few years ago. I use size 2 all the time for most of the socks I make.

I have a set of Mini knitting needles that are used to hold a shawl together. There are, I think, six in the set. Wonder if I can make a part of a hat or mitten and slip it onto those with a scrap of yarn ball and turn that into a pin?! It HAS to wait! I can't do any thing else until the rest is done! Quit tempting me! Please!

I am working on a sweater for my daughter. The needle size is eight. As soon as it gets done, the sweater for the next daughter will be started. The mini stuff has to wait for next Christmas I think.

But, I have a sweater I knitted years ago, that was done on size 1 needles, with the ribbing on a size 0! Yes, size 0 and size 1

It can be done. :)

Flamey, toothpicks would be to hard to hold, cause they are short.

Aha- then you need the fancy, party toothpicks, they're longer! lolol I just think it would be fun (cough, cough) to knit with toothpicks. :)

Glad your burn feels better, Tami! Sounds like all you knitters have plenty to do, I'll stop with the temptations, if I can.

Oh my gosh! Seashell, thank you. Those are the cutest things! I will be spending 24 hours (round trip) int he car for our trip to Atlanta this week. I will have to pack the instructions and a needle!!!!!
