We were thinking of Prime Rib for our Christmas at home on New Year's Day, but we're having a pretty huge group. The price might rule it out.

Shrimp with cocktail and tarter sauce, veggies and dip, chex mix, & bleu cheese ball with crackers before. Then Baked ham, aug gratin potatoes, baked squash, garlic green beans, fruit salad, rolls and Apple turnovers with ice cream for dessert.

I found prime rib on sale, $3.75lb! They also has #10 lb bags of russet potatoes for .88cents! I did a stock up run and there's plenty for Christmas dinner too!

Since it is just DH and I this year, we are having:

Ham
Sweet taters
Steamed green beans
Squash Casserole
Strawberry Shortcake (Bob's request)

Those options all sound great. We can't find any local rerstaurants open. tried to find a buffet open one Christmas, we ended up at a Chinese restaurant, just like The Christmas Story Movie. I am planning on ham for New Years Day.

The neighbors have invited us for Christmas Dinner so I'm freed from Christmas Day cooking! I'm doing a happy dance. I know she's making a roasted ham and home made mac and cheese.

I'm providing a desert. I'm making a smaller version of Grandmother's four-layer, fruit curd filled, "White Christmas Cake."

My cake will be entirely "home made" too, but will have only two layers. One topped with lemon curd, the other with orange curd. I'm preparing the fruit today.

For Christmas Eve at home, I'm fixing Wes and me a small rib roast, slathered in garlic, along with roasted asparagus and Yorkshire puddings. I'll make an apple pie since it's his favorite.

Martha's cooking school Christmas cake is very similar to what I'm making.

(If I keel over in a diabetic coma after making this cake, please know that I went happy; I love you all, and I had a very, merry and happy Christmas! LOL)

I'm ready for a good steak, but since I'm having Dental Work it might not happen.

An article in today's Los Angeles Times says that most restaurants still close on Christmas except for Chinese, Jewish delis & hotel restaurants.

This year I'm doing a brunch at 1 PM instead of a dinner. We'll have baked ham, asparagus & Swiss cheese strata, mixed green salad with lemon vinaigrette dressing, breakfast graham cake, banana bread, & for dessert, carrot cake, triple chocolate cake & magic bar cookies.

We're having a standing rib roast, but I'm still wavering on the sides. Guess I'd better make up my mind, huh? They will be one each of the following:

Green beans almondine or asparagus
Yorkshire pudding or mashed potatoes and gravy or potato casserole
Crusty rolls or yeast
Pumpkin pie or the rum pound cake we bought at Sam's

Better go ask Harry his choice and go with that.

Oooh, I want Lynn's dinner--both of them! Harry wants Yorkshire pudding with the rib roast, asparagus, yeast rolls and pumpkin pie. I forgot about roasted Brussels sprouts but I'm adding them to the menu. I just love them!

We celebrate Christmas Eve, as everyone is either coming or going on Christmas day. We will be having ham, Judean's mashed potatoes, salad, and lots of sides, I'm sure. Everyone is bringing stuff. It's going to be a big gathering.....five great-grands, so that will be fun. I had to rent the senior center across the street because we just overflow my house since the grands have grown up and acquired spouses. I can hardly wait!!

The Christmas Eve menu here tends to lean toward Mexican food...I know it will include tamales and, although not Mexican, Champagne! Just gotta have tamales and Champagne after Church on Christmas Eve! I am going to my son's home on Christmas day. I have been asked to bring a "weird array" of cheeses and goodies. The meal will be a fun surprise. We had a very lovely and traditional Thanksgiving Dinner...we aren't totally "out there"...most days.
