We are alone to night too. No. 2 son was supposed to be here but emailed us had gotten sick and wouldn't make it until tomorrow. No.1 son will be here tomorrow to eat our Christmas ham. Wife planning on getting up early tomorrow to start it baking. We got a lot of snacks sitting on the kitchen table that we bought today for the holiday, but may end up eating much of it ourselves, and that is very bad for us since we both are having to monitor what we eat for health reasons.

I've actually taken advantage of the no-interest, NO PAYMENT 1 and 2 years free financing offers for three items in the past: W/D 01, new king mattress/box spring long past overdue in 03, DD queen mattress/box spring 07. As long as you pay the total amount due prior to the expiration of the offer, you're good. I've done it now three times and it has worked beautifully. Has not adversely affected the credit, in fact just the opposite. Where people get into trouble, is using the no payments for 12 mos. and don't have the money to make the FULL payment at the end of the offer. That's a must or the interest accrues to the time of purchase . I am sure if you look at the fine print (which BTW is supposed to be not so little as of February, 2010), the interest rate alone may give you pause. It sounds as if it is a mutually joint decision by both you and DH. So long as you are not foregoing food for your children by the purchase and, if you have the money to pay the piece off in a yr., go for it. As for whether the table is a purchase that will turn your decorating in another direction, that is up to you to decide if you can afford to go in that other direction. It will be a slippery slope if you splurge on the table without any outlay of $$. I think human nature would dictate that alot/many people will tend to spend at least that amount of money on supporting decorative items in order to make the table "work". Many people change their decorating style over the years and it sometimes starts with just one inspired purchase. Just my own experience. I've only used the no interest/no payments, never the just "no interest for x number mos. offers". That for me personally is not enough incentive. Also, I am really anal about paying off that type of purchase at the 11 month mark so as to protect myself from any circumstance which would leave me vulnerable to the finance charges accruing, etc. Waiting to see if you buy the table. You've certainly gotten alot of good advice.

What a shame that she's so selfish and lazy that she won't do this thing for her son. I don't get this sort of attitude--I didn't always get along with my mother in law (faults on both sides, believe me!) but I never, ever used my kids as a means to punish her for perceived slights. She was still their Grandma and I knew that she loved them and that they loved her and that's what really mattered. Hopefully, your GS's mother will grow up SOON! Annie

OMG! I think I'd kill him. I once had a guy do my lawn and one of the shrubs I just planted started to look really bad a few days after he left. On closer inspection I found that he cut the shrub off at ground level with the weedwhacker and just stuck it right back in the ground to hide the fact from me. Grrrrrr! I was so mad! That shrub was a goner because it didn't have time to establish, but like everyone here said, most established shrubs are pretty indestructible because they had years to develop a good root system. Just clean up the cuts on a slight angle, put a nice layer of cow manure around the base, some good fertilizer with a high phosphate level (rock phosphate or super phosphate would be even better) and use a good bark mulch. If you want, you can plant something around it or put pots around it, or put ornaments around it to camouflage the fact that it was butchered, but don't shade it out. Eventually, it will look like the other one. I cut a dogwood shrub down to a few inches last year because it had gotten so scraggly it was an eyesore. Doing that is called scaffolding. I did everything I told you to do and this year it is coming back beautifully, nice and full, and developing that wonderful candle flame shape it's supposed to have. I wish I did it earlier. I also did that to Smoke Bushes, Forsythias, and mock oranges, and they are all nice and full now. So don't despair. Oh, and now that you can fully see around the plant, get those weeds out of there.

I knew someone might "call me out" on this planting of PF ;). For sure as it stands right now there is not enough room for it :(. (Although there it will probably be ok this year being its first full year in the ground.) Going forward I cant move PF but I might be able to move something else. Either that or reluctantly I may need to do some pruning of this PF each early spring.

I've been alone too since about 9:30 DS here has a lost dog staying at his place until the clinics open on Wednesday to find out about him so we opened the presents and I sent him home.

I've been alone for most of my Christmas' for the last 20 some years so it doesn't bother me.

No, your not the only one. There's a lot of people alone on Christmas Eve. All the servicemen and women, homeless people, ect.
I agree, it sucks, but fill it up doing something for tomorrow when the girls will be there. (won't they?) Or watch a funny movie. Shared holidays are hard.

Alone Here! But, I am on my way up to the Nursing Home to have Christmas Lunch with my Mom.

I've been watching the Disney Parade, which has cheered me up a bit. When I lived in California we would go to Disneyland for Christmas. Sniff! Those were my favorite Christmas's.

I will come home and clean house, because New Years my kids will come in. I need a shovel to get through this house right now.

Merry Christmas!

Caryn has a friend that was home alone last night. We filled a plate with all the goodies that we had, and she took it to him. She tried and tried to get him to come join us, but he didn't want to 'intrude'! We were only eating a nice meal...by the TV and Dean and Caryn were watching a movie! We told him we were all in casual clothes and just hanging out, but he didn't feel right coming here. BUT...I know he had a good Christmas Eve supper! =) He has a 2 year old son that he wasn't going to get to spend time with until Wed. :(

Alone by choice here, too! We had a full house last night and DH is off visiting his kids today. I'm catching up on TiVo, playing on the computer, nibbling leftovers, admiring my tree... this is the life!
