heating pad for car???

Anyone ever seen a heating pad with the plug adaptable to the car? We are hoping to drive back to Ga for a couple of days in early December and Eric still has back issues. We can use the disposible heating stick-on things if we have to but I would prefer a heating pad (so I could use it on cold mornings ont he drive to school!). Never seen one but seems like something that should be out there!

I was curious about the heating pad v seed warmer difference too but mine is mostly for some plants that seem on the edge of unhappiness from the poorly regulated temperatures. I reckon if I can help them through to longer days than more light will help them too. "Water risk" is balony, IMO. My partner's (not so bright) ex made what was essentially a 6' heating element wired into an extension cord. I had to pack her stuff (yup) and when I saw that I was alarmed. Fortunately she's a dilettante and had forgotten about her (messed up interpretation weed filled) fling with what she called permaculture. So apparently some 15 years ago you could buy bulk heating element but I strongly encourage you to follow at least basic safety precautions. If you plug it in and the naked element scorches you, that's not good.

They did nothing wrong. Emission testing has nothing to do with your heat controls. Things do wear out and break.

I think in Iowa it might be, even in Iowa City. In the Northeast this could be considered a pied a terre if it was in the city. I looked at a house that was essentially an open mega-kitchen/ LR, a MBR and bath and two-car garage with a powder room and an all glass back wall/slider to a little yard and it got snapped up pretty quickly at about $600K. There is also a big industrial style loft (essentially a no bedroom or 1 open bedroom for singles or couple only) over a garage that holds about 6 cars comfortably for sale right now. I think it depends on the variation of housing type in the neighborhood. If it is a neighborhood that gets bachelors or empty nesters, you might be okay. If it is the typical every-house-must-have-exactly-the-same-amenities-as-its-neighbor-to-fit-in-and-compete-suburban-neighborhood...not so lucky. First: I'd want to dig into the assumptions, etc. on the heat load calculations to explain the different size systems. That seems like the obvious first step. Second: I would take this opportunity to consider fixing some of the "character" of the house. Can you put the difference in the cost of these two systems into insulation, air sealing, etc. and end up with better comfort and lower energy bills? I say that as someone who pays a little over $400 a year for natural gas (heat, hot water, range and dryer) in central Indiana where it gets pretty darn cold in the winter. I have done that while maintaining all of the historic character of the 1924 bungalow. You have an energy audit. If it was done well it should provide a road map for where to invest for energy savings. If it was done poorly, it will be standard items without much application to your house.

I have a Homedics back heat/massage pad that came with an adapter for the car. I've never used it in the car because we have heated seats, but I use it at home...and it's very good.

If you can't find a "car" just buy a invertor that plugs into your cigarette lighter and then you just plug your regualr things into it....They are really handy to have with the kids..Stacy

I have heated seats in my car they are great especially with my back pain.

Our next car will have heated seats for sure! I have a portable one that goes in the car and loved it until it blew the fuse. It became tempermental from overuse and I was wiggling it in the cigarette lighter when it blew so it was my fault. Seriously though I do recommend them.
