Best Buy is giving away 20 tickets to buy a laptop for 229 dollars...They will be giving the out at 3:00 am And their doors open for sales at 9:00am.

The lap tops will only be sold to those who have tickets.

There were 15 people there at the doors at 7:00 pm this evening so my girls are all wrapped up in winter garb and waiting it out until 3:00

It's going to be a long cold wait...

Hope they get a ticket.

I don't know if they will get away with it but the plan is , the guys are coming back here to get our chiminea to camp around. I said I didn't think they'd let them. Personally I would not want it...I'd want to stand or sit right next to the door. Actually if they are only going to let the first 20 have tickets, they should let them stand or sit in the foyer of the entrance.

Any of you planning on trying for the big sales?

Dd and d-stepson and I are going to JCPenney's at 4. They have all winter coats for 60% off and dh needs a new winter coat badly. Then we're tgoing to head to Walmart then home.

My girls are at grandmas with their cousin and I'm leaving with my retail therapy buddies in about an hour. We're staying at some relatives near Lincoln and leaving before the birds get up to go shopping. We have so much fun getting the best deals. Not necessarily for Christmas either. We've scanned the ad and will plot our course tonite. I noticed younkers had my favorite $80 pillows for 19.99 and several other items I didn't want to pay for UNTIL tommorrow. Some comforters usually over 100 bucks for $25. Fiesta ware sets for $20.00. I need to find my secret sister gifts and a couple ornaments.
I think that the best part of traveling with these buds of mine is that they are so grounded. We know that material items, even at a great price are not near as important as the things we can't see and give thanks for daily.

Hope your dd's have luck getting a laptop. Its way to cold for me! only 20 degrees!

Well, this is a bit off the subject, but, when i was a kid of ten or so, my Dad and Grand-father would take me and my brother on a camping trip, up to Pymatuning Reservoir, in North-western Pennsylvania, for a week of fishing and row-boating, and seeing the sights. (This was around 1933 to 1940.) We had two old WW I Army tents, and cots, blankets, a gasoline stove, cooking utensils, plates, etc. We didn't have an ice chest. My Dad would dig a hole in the creek bank, and we'd keep the perishables there, in the cool water, in a bucket, with a lid. We'd rent a row-boat, and Daddy and me and my younger Brother would go out on the lake and fish. We'd spend a week there, and had lots of fun. We'd turn in at dusk, since we didn't have a big lantern. One night, there was a great commotion outside our tent, and the head-lights of our car were shining into our tent and the horn was blowing loudly! (Around 3 a.m!) I awoke, and asked what was happening. Daddy shouted:"There are skunks in your tent"! Uh-Oh!? "Be very still"! I didn't move, and could hear rustling under my brother's cot, so i managed a peek. And there were two skunks worrying an old half empty can of fish-bait! WOO-HOO! Well, they finally "licked the platter clean", so to say, and ran off. Daddy finally quit blowing the horn, and it all cooled down then. Also, when my wife and i went up to Hammonasset State park, in connecticut, we set up the camper, then went in to town to buy some groceries. As we drove back into the park, we saw 3 skunks walking into a tent that was set up nearby. We watched to see if anybody came running out, but no one did. Then, a car pulled in and four girls got out and started for the tent!! I hollered and told them about the skunks---woo-hoo, they hollered, ran out, got into their car and drove madly away! Don't know if they ever came back! Hammonasset was a nice park to visit. We went there several times. It was close to where our son lived. We went there one 4th. of July when the holiday fell on a Saturday. This was on Wednesday. the park management said we could camp there, if we left on Thursday, as the weekenders would need the space. We agreed, and we left.

Lori - If you and your DH enjoy road trips and don't mind gravel, IMO you might think about driving the Alcan Highway. We took a week and a half up, three weeks in Alaska, and a week and a half back (my parents were both teachers, so they had summers off). No blown-out windshields, but at one point the road was washed out and the crews were using bulldozers to pull the cars through the flowing mud. They told my father that it could break the axle on our car. He said "Go ahead", and the car made it intact. We had camping equipment for meals on the road, but only slept in motels and lodges, not at all fancy, but very colorful and rustic. We also had good rain gear, as it rains every day from the northern Yukon into Alaska. The rains aren't so bad, usually brief. Also a LOT of bugspray, as the mosquitoes are fierce. We saw so much wildlife - bear, moose, deer, and all sorts of small critters and birds. People were very, very friendly, went out of their way to be helpful. When we got to Fairbanks we checked into a "hotel" that my mother had reserved in advance. It was, ah, "primitive". The next morning she went down to check something at the front desk and rushed back in a huff and told my father and me to pack up, that we were moving out, as the "hotel" was off-limits to military personnel. I asked what that meant and she and my dad looked at each other, and my dad had a big grin on his face. As I wrote before, you will never forget this trip. Just plan it carefully, know where your stops are, keep your tires in good condition, and take everything you think you might need. I hope you go and that we'll read all about it here on KT someday! Many of my ideas were hit by frugalwallflower and katlan. Personally, I don't like giving books unless the person is an avid reader who reads books many times over or are a book collector and you know what they want. Except of course something like coloring books or if they like the crossword puzzle books, word search* or something. Otherwise, books are the poster child for one-use clutter if they get used once. Why teach kids that? Cash is still a great gift. Gift cards are a distant second or third since so many gift cards just don't get used. Do you bake? With your handle, I assume you do. That age group loves cookies, bars, Krispie bars, brownies and much more. Nothing to be ashamed of giving a gift of food. Or mix it in with some of the other ideas. The real young with a coloring book, crayons or colored pencils and a plateful of goodies? Few wouldn't be in hog heaven. Younger would probably like Old Maid cards, and I don't know what classic board games go for these days but there might be an option too. The youngest ones should be very easy to stay under the $10 mark, even under $5 if you want to go the purchased present way. Older ones? Well, keep in mind they might be approaching driving age. Something for the car if they have one. A key fob, first aid kit or even tools. If they have a car, floor mats are usually needed. It's late to start now but if you're near Menards or Ace Hardware you can buy a lot of stuff free after rebate or super cheap after rebate. Examples, 25' tape measure, wrench sets, screwdriver sets, hats, t-shirts, etc. Flashlights are a great gift too. The little LED ones that go on a keyring are handy and useful. A decent flashlight is usable by most anyone. Other ideas for the older, near driving age, is an ice scraper for northern climate or sunshade for southern. Both can be had for a couple dollars. I'd say fire up the stove and oven. And look for some things they might need or find useful. I might sound like a broken record at times but I really believe in avoiding the trash presents, meaning the ones that are a waste of money since they won't be used, or won't be used more than once and will just wind up in the dumpster. Food and cash, most always get used and are still appreciated far more than the stores and "shopping addicted" want people to believe. *One year as part of the gift I made up some word search puzzles and gave to the kids and had a little contest. I made the younger ones easier puzzles than the older ones. WordPerfect had a feature in it that let you set up the puzzle and it would fill in random letters in the blank spaces so it was easy. I had a 1st, 2nd & 3rd place prize of $3, $2 an $1. (there were 3 kids so each got a token cash prize and I planned a small gift for each so each actually got the intended prize, but it was down as a prize for winning. They loved it.

I don't usually pay close attention to TV commercials but I stopped and watched every time the TJ Maxx/Marshalls/Homegoods ad came on stating that "the only thing people should be wrestling for on Thanksgiving is a drumstick" and they should be "camped out at home spending time with family instead of in a parking lot." I am going to try to support those businesses this holiday season more than I might have because I support the message they're putting out. Many people who work as sales help in stores do so out of necessity. I think it's absurd to make them work on Thanksgiving. And the irony is people are bolting from family to buy stuff for them to show them they are loved....?? What a sad disconnect from what holidays are meant to be.

I'm at DS's house now sitting with Ricky and Seth while mom and dad went to Best Buy also. I've been here since 3:00 am....Ricky usually sleeps until 7-8...this morning he woke up at 4:30..so I ain't gettin any sleep here! They went for the camcorder...hope they get the one on sale but I doubt it, they will buy one anyway. Theirs was stolen from their car a few months ago :O(

I'm hoping Ricky falls alseep soon so I can get some sleep before Seth wakes up! It's 5:25 now......my eyes burn!

No, I don't shop for anything but food unless it is an absolute necessity. I'd never go out and fight a crowd. However, my daughter and her boyfriend were talking about going to Best Buy to try and get one of those lap tops. I don't know if they went or not. Knowing them, they probably couldn't wake up in time. :)

WalMart had a pretty decent laptop in early November for under $350. I was suprised to see the still had them in the store for at least a week after that. I was a good price for the computer - it wasn't the best computer - but for that price it was great.

Hope they got their ticket for the laptop!

Any reports back yet Patti. It was so cold last night, I hope they let them wait in the store. 18Â° now, at 8:07AM. That is to damn cold for me.

Brrrrr not me! I don't even know what sales are going on today. DS and DIL are going Christmas shopping today, but the baby sitters are scheduled for 9am. So it won't be an early trip for them.

I can't imagine many "things" I would stay up all night for in 20Âº weather. I am much too cold natured!!!

I sure hope they were able to get the tickets for the laptops Patti. Let us know!!!

DH and I went to Walmart this AM, I wanted to get chairs for the grandkids (it hooks up to their video games.) They had lots of them, and only $30..so we went, got chairs and came back home all in 40 minutes! Boy was it crowded though and 27 degrees brrrrrrrrrr! Kathy

Well they got home about 6:30 this morning....that was about 11 hours of standing outside in extreme cold. I sure hope they don't get sick.

They had a little propane heater and a big blanket they held over them and the heater...I think it gave Carri a headache breathing that in.

But they both got one of the laptops...

Knowing Carri...after spending all that time freezing...she'll probably take it back....lol

Well...congrats to them! DS and DIL got the last video camera that was on sale for 149.00 and the Nintendo DS bundle package for Ricky....them they went to a few other store and got everything they went out for. I couldn't believe it! They deciced at the last minute in toys R us to get the swing set for 75.00, but after they paid for it and waited for them to bring it out to the car they couldn't find any in the stock room after all. So they had to go back in and get their money back! They were'nt expecting to get it, just a whim, but now they are wanting to get one and pay a little more, maybe a wooden set they have their eye on at Walmart. They did good today...I, on the other hand am still tired, still got no sleep! Early night for me tonight!

we actually went out yesterday evening to gander mtn for DH for gun stuff. he hates shopping but couldn't pass up their deals lol. today was cold for me, 73 and cloudy and gloomy, not conducive to shopping for me but i did get out to target, lowes and borders. got a bunch of stuff (thou nothing for gifts lol) including some 1000 thread ct sheets for only $60 on the set, even their reg price at $120 is a steal for that tread ct. got a bunch of christmas music CD's, my splurge since we find music for free online. i already bought stuff online yesterday and dh is taken care of already, an antique rifle we got last month.

i didn't get up at the crack of dawn, there are no stores outside of NYC or chicago i do that for LOL esp not if the temp is under 80, those places don't do sales anyways lol. i thought the shopping traffic and the stores were really not busy, i was very surprised. i thought for sure by 9am all the things i wanted to pick up would be gone but the only thing i missed out on was a rubbermaid wreath storage box at lowes for $5. i'm ordering all my gift things online so my shopping in stores is pretty much done unless i find more good deals. we pretty much have all we want or need so there's not much to tempt me out there which makes shooping days like today kinda boring lol, i wish i needed some of those things just to shop LOL ~ liz
