Best cat purchase I have made!

A couple of weeks ago I purchased this cat scratcher for Elmo. He likes to scratch on the furniture and the banister. He really seems to like this- do not remember yelling at him in 2 weeks about the furniture! Ara and Stewie use either the giant braided rug in the kitchen or the turbo-ball-scratcher but Elmo is picky. Ours does not have the goofy scene on the side- it is a nice neutral tan and blends into the carpet nicely.

Unfortunately, this was a waste of $10.00- Stewie is afraid of it! The bird chirps and he runs and hides, LOL.

This looks fun, Janie, get a good stretch and a scratch all at the same time. I'll watch for one of these, my boys would like that. They use the round, rolly-ball one a lot, because they know I'll give 'em catnip to get them going. :)

And who knew Stewie was a chicken? lololol Maybe he'll get used to it!

Kep150, sounds like a winner. I did similiar thing. Had a Craftsman 48" cut with a 15.5 Kohler. Got tired of the repairs, so I started shopping for a ztr. While wife was getting her hair done, I went to local dealer and was impressed with the Huster 54" ZTR w/21 hp Kawasaki. After picking her up at beauty shop took her by for a demo. Not only did she let me buy it, SHE TOOK IT OVER. She would mow, but did let me trim... fixed that up... sprayed Roundup around the trees and such now I just sit under the pecan tree and move anything out of her way... I usually get a little nap before she is done with the 3 acres... :) Shot

Another thing, you don't want to trap the cat and have it confined in the trap for several days. I would only try to trap the cat on the day before you can bring it into the vet. So not at all on a Saturday, but Sunday afternoon or evening would be better because then the animal is only confined overnight. Keep him or her covered and quiet. It may take a few days of putting out food before she goes into the trap. If you can place it where you can watch it's better. Then you'll know who is going in there. Pick the food up before dark, though, unless the cat only comes after dark. If that is the case you may catch a raccoon overnight and be careful releasing that. You may even catch a different cat. That is another dilemma! It happened to me, and I also caught a raccoon by accident when I was trapping at night. It's interesting that some cats only show up at night, and even in the middle of the night, and some come to eat during the day. My female feral (I named her Fanny) comes during the day.

I've had so many cats over the years I've lost count. All have been indoor/outdoor but live "in" in the winter. We have found leather furniture to be best for upkeep with animals in general be they cats, dogs, birds or children... Never really had an issue with furniture clawing. Years ago I found my oldest cat had developed a 'love' for an old wooden box, 24X18X18(antique ammunition box I kept magazines in) This became the scratching post. If this wasn't handy sometimes she would use the decorative logs in the fireplace. So I've kept it handy. If the cats scratch they go there. Original kitties passed away, current two have not developed the scratch thing yet. Cats scratch to mark their territory. Scent in their paws. I've hissed at cats all my life, everyone in my family does. Keeps em honest...

I've found this rating on line in several places, but they all say the same thing. In the past I've found more details, but haven't run across that yet. You'll have to decide what's right for your situation, but I think I'd want a 4 in my kitchen and entrance. However, I'm no expert. Also, there is a test for water absorption. Janie, we were given one of those same cardboard cat scratchers and our three cats like it too.

That bird toy looks very cute - sorry it scares the kitty. Is there any way to stop the bird from chirping?

I'm going to have to look for that scratching thingy! I don't know if my CeCe would play with the birdie thing..but Jasper would KILL it!If it squeaks or makes a noise of any kind..he thinks it's HIS! LOL

We have one of those. Our cats don't pay any attention to the toy but they scratch on it all the time. Sometimes They take running attacks on it. I have a small scratching post/toy right next to it, so it is a great source of entertainment.

I'll have to check out Walmart.

My cat Lucy scratches on one spot at the front door which I don't mind so much because she doesn't go after my furniture. Chloe, "the cat who came to visit and never went home" has already destroyed one piece of furniture and now is working on my vinyl ottoman.

I went out and bought a heavy duty cardboard called a "Cosmic Catnip Scratching Post" a few weeks ago and Lucy took right to it because of the catnip - she rolled on it, licked it, slept on it but did everything but scratch it for the first 2 weeks. This week I finally saw her dig her nails into it a few times and scratch it. She also uses it to sit on because she doesn't like to sit on the cold floor. Chloe ignores it completely.

I need to find something that Chloe will scratch. I am thinking she likes to dig her nails into soft things so I might have to look for a carpeted post but Lucy will love the one you posted.

We have had a flat scratcher for years and it's a favorite of all of our cats...My DH has even had to make new cardboard inserts and we have the darn thing taped together but they still go after it....
