I hope your mom recovers from her ordeal. After reading, I thought maybe it sounded more than the flu. You're in my thoughts and prayers, and I hope she will be completely healed by the time Xmas rolls around.

Aw Jasdip, I'm so very sorry for what your Precious Mom and her family are going through. Of course I'm sending healing Prayers and good thoughts along with those of the others around this Table. It is so sad that it took so long for them to find out what what was wrong. Hopefully the worst is behind you all.

I think the prayers are working. I called at 6 am and she is still heavily sedated so she slept all nite. They were concerned that she might develop a fever overnite and she didn't. Her blood pressure is still low, but stable. Hasn't fallen any further.

Oh how I treasure your thoughts and prayers.

When I saw her yesterday she was awake and knew me. She couldn't talk with the ventilator in her mouth. She was trying to draw letters in the air.... c o l.... I asked if she wanted me to "call" someone. No. She weakly patted her abdomen....oh yes, I know you got a colonostomy. So they told her that. I know that will upset her, but whatever it takes for her to live!

Jasdip this is so difficult for your Mom and all of your family. May God Bless your Mom. I pray for strength to come her way, the will to pull through. I am sending positive energy in my prayers. I know things come in 3's so I'm hoping the 3rd is not bad news but news of recovery. Let's all make our prayers strong enough.

I'm so very glad she seems to be recovering well from surgery. Your family will continue to be in my thoughts, jasdip! Several of my friends have had colostomies and even though they hated them at first, they all got used to the situation with no problem.

I hate to hear that, jasdip. Your poor mother must have been miserable. But, hopefully, she is on the mend now. I will keep her in my prayers, too. And prayers for strenght for you and yours. (((jasdip)))

My Mother in Law had to have a temporary colostomy bag and after one year they did a successful removal of it and she handled it beautifully so it can happen!!

Those perforations can be really troublesome - perforated appendizes used to be very serious, but there have been so many advances in diagnosis and treatment, these days.
I am pleaased that your mother came through surgery well, and is making a good beginning at recovery.

May she continue to heal and get back soon to her usual self ... and may you feel comfortable with it, taking it all in stride.

Jasdip & Mom, all the best cold weather thoughts coming your way. Actually, many of the things you've said are positive so don't panic over everything. I became intimately familiar with a similar situation when a good friend was in a car accident with her two daughters on-board. The one had colon injuries. The fever and stuff they said was caused by the tears in the linings and such. They were concerned when the fever wouldn't go down. The doctors were concerned and called a larger hospital in Duluth who said to get her over there immediately. It was because of a tear in there and needed surgery. She was within an hour of dying but once the damaged portion of the colon/intestine was removed, the fever immediately dropped, so my point is that no fever is a very very good sign that they got it. Dehydration is serious - I mentioned that before but that can be dealt with, but everything kind of goes together.

So, my dear, don't look at the negative side. There's a LOT of positives you've mentioned so far. The body gives signs when there's trouble and one thing affects another. Take care of one and it can often take care of many others. Looks like that's happened here.

please get a referral to a kidney dr...that's what my gyn oncologist finally did for me...with restricted diet and medications, got my test back to normal (in less than a year or 2)i'm still on meds but nothing else...

I'm so glad she got the surgery she needed, and that it sounds like she will now be on the mend. Did they say what caused the perforation? She will get used to the colostomy bag, and as some have said, many are now reversible. We'll hold good thoughts that is the case.

Today was the first chance I had to go on line. I was shocked and so sorry to hear about your mom.....add me to the list of prayer givers. Please keep us posted. ((((jasdip)))))

For sure you have mine too. In 1989 I had exactly the same thing...It had been going on for weeks and they couldn't figure it out....They were pumping me full of antibiotics and nothing helped. I had an appointment with my doctor and I had to call my husband to come home because I couldn't even get out of bed.......that was the turning point....He sent me straight to the hospital from his office.........I had the surgery and the ostomy and it all went just fine. It is not a pleasant thing to go through, but I pray that she has a full recovery and that she is feeling great really soon.

Just wanted to say one more thing........I had a wonderful colostomy nurse that visited me before I left the hospital. They come and show you how to take care of the colostomy....and explain how it all works. She said something to me that made all the difference in the world and it really did effect my attitude...she said.... Ruth, you can go home, feel sorry for yourself, suck your thumb and lock yourself in the house and be miserable because you have a colostomy, or you can get your butt out of bed and get on with your life. No one will ever know that you have an colostomy unless you tell them so go and do whatever it is that you feel like doing......I certainly took her words to heart and lived just that way.....and after the tissue in the colon had time to heal, I had the reversal ie... the rehook and it all went well............Tell your Mother not to worry......

Wally, my step-father had a urostomy June/09, and she knows what to expect, for the most part. She knows his attitude....positive right from the minute he heard that his bladder will have to be removed. He'll be a rock for her for sure.
He is the single most positive person I know, and he'll be a great influence on her.

You're absolutely right about no one knowing unless they tell them. Even family and co-workers never think of Wally's "appliance."

I will keep your mother and your family in my prayers.
