Does Amber suffer from anxiety? Because that is what ativan is for. Just asking because it is easy to label someone as anxious instead of finding the cause for what is really going on. I am glad she is following up with her primary care doctor.

How frightening. I certainly hope it turns out to be a one-time occurrence, but I'm glad she's seeing her primary care physician. It would be nice if they could find out the cause. Healing and positive thoughts coming your way.

I would ask to be tested for a prolapse valve (mitral valve). It took me 8 years to get diagnosed - had to go to a special doctor. Day after I was diagnosed, this was the subject of the health column in the Toronto newspaper written by an M.D. Apparently one in 8 women have it - I do not need to take meds for it. But if I am having any form of surgery - including dental, that involves "blood" -not limited to transfusions - I need to take a major dose of penicillin (or alternative) before and after, just in case the valve should slam shut hard, releasing some blood into my system resulting in blood poisoning. Palpitations are the symptom. Hope there is nothing seriously wrong with Amber. But I would not let it go with it being diagnosed as anxiety - unless there is reason to believe it is. I can't take Ativan, Valium - heck anything that calms people down has opposite effect on me - strange that I can take penicillin.

if they did blood tests, look for low Potassium. I found out that I was having low potassium at times and would sometimes get a fluttering feeling, especially at night when I first laid down. Now I take Potassium (OTC) and have had no problems since and found that my hands cramps and toe cramps went away as well.

Could be thyroid too....Hope she finds a quick and simple answer and I'll keep her in my prayers. Don't worry, this may be but a little bump in the road, fingers crossed for her.

I'm so sorry. You must be worried sick. Please do have her follow up with a doctor to pinpoint the cause of her difficulty. Maybe she is affected by stress if she has a lot in her life, but it could be other things as well.

Sending good thoughts for your daughter...Hopefully they find that it is something as simple as anxiety......I have the same problem as eccentric.....I have to be concerned about the burp too.

Tami, I had a similar problem in my forties. Went through a whole battery of tests, and was eventually diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse. (It has since resolved, apparently.)

While wearing a Holter monitor for 24 hours I discovered that eating candy triggered PVCs (premature ventricular contractions, or "skipped beats"). So did drinking milk. Giving up sugar and dairy products pretty much cured the problem.

Prayers for Amber

Thanks everyone! She has an appointment on Wed. afternoon. She has not seen her primary since 2006. Can you tell she doesn't get sick! Anyway, they are seeing her then, and will do a complete physical later (new patient type since it's been so long). And may send her to a cardioligist. Her SO's mom has a great one that she may try to go to. Biggest problem is they don't have any insurance. She keeps busy with Damien. He's EIGHT now! Can you believe it?! And she baby sits, as well as a little bit of freelance photography. She has been having problems sleeping. She will sleep a few hours then be up for the day. Not good. She did mention it in the ER and will to primary dr. DR asked lots of ? and said she didn't seem anxious, but did the ativan anyway. It did the trick. She did tell him that novacain and other dental numbing agents don't work, or don't last very long at all, and that I have a lot of problems taking meds. Things don't affect me like they do others. She told him all that so he was for warned in case she reacted unexpectedly with it. She doesn't think she is anxious but who knows. Love the primary care. She will send her to a cardio if she thinks it's needed. She slept good the next two nights, but was up at 2 this morning again, managed a couple little naps since, but needs some good sleep. C is taking good care of her. She said he hasn't gotten much sleep lately either, cause he's listening for her! Love him, he's good to her, takes good care of her & Damien.

I felt better as soon as I hit submit, just knowing that you would all be praying for her! Still unsettled, but that's normal. Thank you all so much.

She's very busy and lack of sleep must be very hard on her. I wasn't sleeping and my sister, an RN, told me to try Melatonin. It isn't a drug, but herbal ? something. You might try "googling" it, but it's worked for me. I haven't been up at that dreaded 2 a.m. since. I wake up to potty but go back to sleep pretty soon (not immediately), but too sleepy to get up. Even Dr. Oz recommended it on TV a while back.

I had the same symptoms, anxiety, irregular heart beat and could not sleep. Ended up going to the emergency room on Halloween night 3 years ago. Emergency room doctor referred me to an Endocrinologist. He was right. I was hyperthyroid. Medications fixed the problem. Hope she finds the answer to her problems soon.

Special thoughts for Amber.

Emergency Room doctors are famous for "passing the buck" and misdiagnosing. A woman was having a heart attack, they thought it was a drug overdose. She died from improper treatment and her family sued. My own father in law went in with abdominal pain. They said it was "nothing, go see your primary doctor." Turns out he had a blocked intestine with cancer, also liver cancer. He was dead within 4 months.I know he couldn't have been saved at the ER, but still...

To jannie, I don't think the ER doctor was passing the buck. Their sole job is to stabilize a patient. They are not treating doctors or in the position to follow up on a condition. Perhaps years ago ER doctors had more time & resources to do more treating. Today they having waiting rooms full of crisis situations and people who ignore symptoms or skip regular well-care visits and then think they can utilize the ER when the slightest thing goes wrong. We all need to take personal responsibility in having and seeing a primary care doctor. Unfortunately costly doctor visits and insurance and our mixed up health care system (with reporting, logging problems & then putting on riders or denying insurance) are often deterrents.
