Memo to dog owners who use take-out coffee

For about a year, when we visit the grocery and go through the checkout, they ask us how many bags we want, and charge us 5 cents each.

In some of the discount grocers, they drop the empty cartons near the door and people can use them to haul their groceries.

Now, people are buying fewer such bags, which is a bit troublesome for some dog owners who take their pets for a walk, needing a carrier to pick up residue.

If you take coffee from a restaurant in a coated-paper cup, they always have a plastic lid. When the coffee is gone, they usually get thrown.

However, they'e just the right size to pick up after your dog (unless you have a darned big one).

And the lid can act as scoop, loader, or whatever descriptive word you choose ... to move the product from the lawn into the handy carrier.

This recommendation loses almost all of its value if you take your own multi-use mug into the restaurant. Sorry about that - we do try to be as helpful as we can, to as many as possible: maybe enxt time.
