Happy Labor Day to all. I received the most wonderful package from Donna earler in the week. It had so many terrific plants and lots of very neat goodies. I love all bulbous plants and Donna really made my day with some Shampoo Ginger, Canna, Pink Crinium and Walking Iris plants. The package also included a Blue Agave and (OH Joy!) a Red Bird of Paradise. I've wanted a Bird of Paradise start for a long time. There were also some nicely packaged seeds of canna, yucca, yarrow, mixed zinna, poppies, larkspur, nasturtium and french marigold. And because she had ALL the bases covered there was still room in the box for some biodegradable potting cells, a gardeners organizer and some lovely bath and nail care goodies. Thank You, Thank You!! All my new babies are in their pots awaiting their place in the mixed bed that I'm putting in this fall.(or as soon as the weather cools LOL) Donna, I'm glad that you liked the Miracle Grow Liquid Feed. It's the best and easiest way to fertilize that I've found. You use it every couple of weeks and it's just amazing how things grow. This exchange was a great idea and a lot of fun. Hi Janet, It was a great day. I love my guys as they get older they are so much fun and silly as ever. I will try to find time to go to Sunrise soon. I am sure the girls have new ones. They keep adding as they old ones leave. I got a $10 coupon I need to use from a previous purchase....hmmmm now what can I fit in the garden. Got to stick to mini's. And that's becoming another habit. lol Have you been back. I know they usually have a sale with the corn roast every year. Give them a call or check on line they may say. Also the mum balls are to die for in the fall. Very unusual and again more hosta's!

At our house, we try to live like every day is Earth Day, because it truly is. Happy Good Friday and Happy Earth Day to all. I remember the first Earth Day and I have to say that in terms of polluted air and water, we've cleaned up a lot of our mess since then but still have quite a ways to go. If you remember the first Earth Day in 1970, did you do anything to celebrate it? And, if so, what? I was ten years old and I remember we rode our bicycles to school instead of taking the bus (of course, the school buses ran anyway, so it was a largely symbolic gesture). I also remember Earth Day buttons that we wore. At our school, we went outside with trashbags and picked up trash not only around the school but in the surrounding neighborhood too. It seems like the school cafeteria had some sort of special meal, but not I cannot remember what it was. The amazing thing about the very first Earth Day was that it was very much a grassroots (no pun intended) effort. Remember that personal computers were in their infancy then, and there were no cell phones, no social networking media, no 24-hour-news-stations to spread the word, and not much advance attention given to it by the handful of TV networks we had back then. What there was back then was millions of people who used Earth Day to make a statement about the ecological state of our world and our desire to make it better.

Luckygal, where in the world are you? Somewhere near a beach obviously--but which one. Sorry no good luck on the TS shopping, do keep trying! Jeanne, I have two baker's racks outside, one is a corner unit--but neither look nearly as cute as yours with your collections and vignettes. I need to work on mine I think. That is so neat that you do the Farmer's market too. Candy, I'm another one who does tablescapes for my "imaginary" friends. DH will only eat at the table when we have company--rest of the time he prefers to eat in front of the tv. Karen, I didn't do a table, but I did glue a little cheese tray and glass dome on a pedestal and decorate it--can I get any points for that? ;o) Kathleen, the rooster napkins like in your photo that you shared with me are some of my favs. We don't do sit down breakfast often, but I like to just sit the table and display them on the plates because they look so cute.
