I see hardly anyone wearing hose these days--I'm in the NorthEast. Even in the dead of winter, gals are running around with bare legs here. But that doesn't say it is or is not acceptable in your area--you may want to check around with some of your friends to see what they've been seeing lately where you live.

One thing you might want to check on--since customs vary so much these days--is if the bride is okay with you wearing black. I know the 'rule' about never wearing black at weddings has gone out the window for the most part, but there are still brides (I know of some) who do NOT want guests wearing black. Traditionally, it was considered disrespectful and very bad luck.

Good point about the black...I'd thought of that already, and this bride is cool with it! Her future MIL wore black to her own daughters wedding 6 years ago. When she was shopping for her dress, I talked to her about it, but it was a non-issue! I was surprised at the wedding because quite a few of the guests wore black,also.

From what I've noticed, they appear to be making a come back...but some regions are quicker or slower to catch on... I would ask your friends in your area.

It could also depend a little on your age. But, I'd probaby just do what you want to do. I think you'll see both.

I was at a two receptions recently and the big color was black and white. So a black dress with a pretty white or colored scarf or something to jazz it up , I believe, would be just right. Some had hose hose, some didn't. I wore black slacks because I have a few unsighly veins, even hose can't cover. I love the way hose look, just don't like wearing them.

Wear what you want. Hose or no hose! be comfy!

I wish hose would come back into fashion, but it hasn't arrived where I live yet. A couple of years ago, Martha Stewart, of all people, was criticized in a magazine for wearing stockings with dressy sandals.

My legs are "glow in the dark WHITE" I never leave the house without them covered, I would blind people, lol.

I haven't worn hose in ages and I think the old norms about wearing black to a wedding have changed. Black is classy and if you look stylish and feel comfortable I say go for it.

J.C. Penney's sells toeless pantyhose. I would feel naked dressing up and not wearing pantyhose! I would say 'do what makes you feel good'.

One should never wear hose with open toed shoes. Never, no matter what, no exceptions. If someone "must" wear hose then they also much wear closed toed shoes.

Hose are definitely making a comeback, we were in NYC a couple of weeks ago and they are taking up space in all the higher end stores again! I was glad to see it, I think a gal looks so polished in them and I feel so feminine and dressed in them.

I wear hose with open toed shoes all the time, always have, always will. If I have on heels I usually have on hose.

Unless you are very fit and tanned please were hose. I am so glad to see Lynn's post that they are coming back. All those pallid, doughy, sometimes veiny and fat naked jiggly legs are not attractive. Hose smooths things. Legs simply look so much better in them.

When ever I see someone dressed to the nines without hose it looks to me like they had a quicky in the cloakroom and lost an item of clothing. UGH

I'm like Janie, wouldn't go without hose, to white. I don't think bare legs look good at all unless you are young and tanned. I usually think of myself as a modern woman, but not in that regard.

My legs look awful without hose, so I wear pants suits now for the few occasions that I must dress up. Out here, all the younger women do not wear hose. I notice it is a badge of age (and I am no spring chicken) if one wears hose.

If I had chosen to wear hose, I would have chosen to wear my closed toe sandals!

My first choice for a non-summer wedding is black pants or a long skirt, a dressy white bouse and plenty of jewelry.

I've been to 3 dressy affairs recently in Houston and no one was wearing hose.

I still wear pantyhose with a skirt or dress. Always.

Cher was just on Regis and Kelly, open toed shoes and hose! I think that wearing them creates a polished, finished look, especially on these 57 year old legs!
