Khandi - Here's the recipe: I love them & I hope you do too. (A friend just made them last night and really enjoyed them - she agreed they are the "standard"!) They are a little time consuming, for brownies - but worth it to me! Julia Child's brownies 1 1/4 cups sifted all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon salt 8 ounces unsalted butter 4 ounces unsweetened chocolate, coarsely chopped 2 ounces bittersweet chocolate, coarsely chopped 2 cups sugar 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract 4 large eggs Center a rack in the oven and preheat the oven to 350°. Sift the flour and salt together and set aside. Melt the butter and chocolate together in a medium saucepan over low heat, stirring frequently and keeping a watchful eye on the pot to make certain the chocolate doesnÂt scorch (Alternatively, you can melt the ingredients in the top of a double boiler over, not touching, simmering water.) Add 1 cup of the sugar to the mixture and stir for half a minute, then remove the pan from the heat and stir in the vanilla. Pour the mixture into a large bowl. Put the remaining 1 cup sugar and the eggs into a bowl and mix or whisk by hand just to combine. Little by little, pour half of the sugar and eggs into the chocolate mixture, stirring gently but constantly with a rubber spatula so that the eggs donÂt set from the heat. Fit the whisk attachment to the mixer and whip the remaining sugar and eggs until they are thick, pale, and doubled in volume, about 3 minutes. Using the rubber spatula, delicately fold the whipped eggs into the chocolate mixture. When the eggs are almost completely incorporated, gently fold in the dry ingredients. Pour and scrape the batter in to an unbuttered 9-inch square pan. Bake the brownies for 25-28 minutes, during which time they will rise a little and the top will turn dark and dry. Cut into the center at about the 23-minute mark to see how the brownies are progressing: theyÂll be perfect if theyÂre just barely set and still pretty gooey. TheyÂre still awfully good on the other side of set, so donÂt worry if you miss the moment on your first try. Cool the brownies in the pan on a rack.

I made these for the second time last night. I was hooked after a guest brought them here on New Year's Day. Here's my recomendation: Ghirardhelli double chocolate brownie mix (smaller package) 2 Symphony toffee bars (I only use 1 3/4 bars) Make the mix as directed. Use an 8x8 pan lined with GREASED tin foil, pour in 1/2 of the mix, place a single layer of candy bar covering the top, pour in the rest of the mix, spread it to the sides and corners and bake at 325 for about 50 minutes. I love chewy brownies, but this is one recipe that works when they're cooked a bit more. Cool and if possible refrigerate. Then cut and serve. I cut into smaller portions as it's a sweet recipe, but such a winner and such praise when it's served! I'm so not a nut person, but you'll never know that they're there in this recipe. I wouldn't use the mix with nuts included.

I hope you're not talking about me. I don't take online things personally, nor did I actually think of this conversation as critical. Not many of us do here. I find when someone's newly online, they don't realize people take things in the emotion they themselves are currently experiencing. Not necessarily as intended, but don't sweat it. I'm a 2-decade, online pro. :) Re: fire. as much as I hate this expression, "It is what it is." But I'm compelled to add "it's what you do with 'it' that makes a difference." Our fire started with the water softener shorting out, which burned down into the walls. Ironically, the subsequent electrical system I endured for 5 years were extension cords strung through the house, poked through the exterior wall into the garage, where they were juryrigged directly to the breakers. Yes, ex-DH, that was such a great idea. But one cord did run the 220v space heater that warmed my sorry butt for 6 years. Until I got my solar grants and put HVAC into the house. Go figure. I'm sure this explains my done once done right philosophy. We're straying, but that's what these threads are about. T_G, what's the name of your paint color? LOVE it.
