Is everyone cooking/cleaning for T-giving?

I've been cleaning and doing laundry all day and my back is killing me. But the house is sparkly clean. Tomorrow I'll do most of the cooking for Thursday so I can relax and have a nice visit with my daughter. How are your plans coming along.

Yes, I'm cleaning today and Wednesday. All the shopping is done. Will begin cooking early Thursday morning. After I have my coffee, of course.

Thanks everyone. Much better today but it couldn't have gotten worse LOL Nice to know that in a pinch they won't starve. Thanks for all offers to help. My bff did bring over some chicken soup on Monday night so that helped a lot too. I had no idea how much worse Tuesday was going to be, though. I'm going back to bed for a quick nap before everyone comes home from school. Wish they would eat PBJ sandwiches but none of them like them - not even for school lunches.

egganddart--we found this stove after searching the internet after falling in love with old stoves found at a place in north GA that re-did our 1951 fridge. I actually fell for a 6-burner Roper at first but nothing was available at that time so started searching while our fridge was being done. As mentioned above, our baby was not re-done the way our fridge was, only cleaning and converting to propane, and we love the little nicks and scratches in the porcelain. We loved it even more when we saw the exact same one the website of the person who did our fridge for twice the price. Granted, that stove would have been totally taken apart and re-done and would look brand new, but we wouldn't have traded ours for it. Besides, we had a great time on our road trip to pick her up. marthavilla--Your kitchen is looking good, too--especially that red hood and stove! I can't promise when our kitchen will be done as DH and I aren't the fastest and I only get up on weekends and holidays. Right now we are at the stage where we are doing the priming, painting, trimwork, and miscellaneous work before moving on to the next phase (flooring). It's amazing, I start on one project that I thought would go quickly and several hours later finally finish. We did get the ceiling in the new part of the den wallpapered with beadboard wallpaper with the help of my SIL and newphew (posted pics on Decorating Forum). We haven't painted it yet but are really happy with the way it turned out and I will be ordering more to do the kitchen and breakfast/keeping room (SIL has even volunteered to come back and help again, LOL). DH is working some on my pantry and hopefully I will have some pics of it soon to post--it's got old screen advertising doors on it and I'm loving how it's turning out! Thanks again, everyone! Just because it says round steak doesn't mean you can throw it in the pan & brown nicely on both sides & eat!!!(My 1st company dinner) Lucky for me everything else was good!! Coffee in a recipe usually means brewed cold coffee, not the grounds!! Very crunchy tho! (I gave her some lessons after that) "dot with butter" means about 1/4 tsp dots around over filling of pie. "dash of salt" about spot on your hand size of a pea & not piled up. Often to just "cut" the powdered sugar taste in icings. When your recipes get old copy them so you can read them & cover with a plastic sleeve, then put it away when you are finished using it. Candy can't be thrown together like cookies or sweet breads. Candy can't be doubled if it is cooked kind. Just make another batch. Learn to make a cream sauce & gravy from someone who knows how!! And of course be sure you have all of the ingredients before you start. Neighbors may not appreciate you banging on the door every other day!! Oh, this is important. Waxpaper should not be used anywhere near a gas stove. I had finished frosting carrot cookies & took them to freezer when the fresh orange icing was set & I was tired so didn't think to pick up the sheet of waxpaper it was about 12 in. from burner. I went to make tea on gas stove, I just boil water & put tea bags in.Second the flame started the waxpaper literally walked to the flame & flames shot up into the vent. My 1st thought was I need to run water from sink but realized I had a whole pan of water for tea just dumped it over & it got it all. I have made cookies in same spot for 40 yrs & left wax paper there hundreds of times. I'll bet someone changed the formula, just like Pyrex has been changed & DD had a fairly new Anchor Hocking glass casserole break in her hands last year. Pyrex is very dangerous now & no recourse it it blows up & cuts you or blinds you. Chinese co. is not responsible. I had taken 9 old Pyrex pie & cake pans out of my oven last week when I got the email & heard how dangerous it now is. The old stuff is Ok!I think!! You might want to use stainless steel pans now. Safer! Google Pyrex- wow!

Walls. Oh, dear deity, walls. I can remember buying my first home--as a single person, I was looking at condos. My guess is that 99.999% of condos just plunk the kitchen in a corner of the living room, adding a counter/eating bar to create "separation." My agent had a hard time understanding that I wanted a kitchen that was a separate room. Open concept may be great for entertaining or if you have kids. But I am home alone a lot more than I entertain and I don't have kids. What I want is walls to contain the noise of the dishwasher and doors to keep cooking odors contained. The idea of having the kitchen in the living room and the smells and grease getting into my nice furniture is not appealing. And there's the dirty dishes issues, as expressed by lavender lass. There are mornings I don't have time to wash my cereal bowl before dashing out to work. There are days when I eat dinner and just want to collapse. So while the dishes get done promptly most days, some days they don't. And I don't want to curl up in the living room to relax and have those dirty dishes staring at me from across the room, reminding me that I'm being lazy.

I put the 22lb turkey in the fridg to start defrosting it. I set the bread out, to start drying it. I'm making a HUGE cherry topped cheese cake today, so we can start eating it tonight....:0)

We are invited to my DBIL's for dinner on Thursday. I'll bring along a couple of dishes which I'll prepare on Thursday morning.

Until then, I'm stuck in the office the rest of today and all day tomorrow.

All the chopping is done...onions celery, parsley, sage, rosemary, brussels sprouts cleaned and halved, butternut squash chopped and cranberry sauce is made. Tomorrow I will make an apple pie.. Pecan bars made and frozen. Will also brine the turkey tomorrow and clean downstairs. Just finished making up the bed in the guest room and will clean upstairs tonight. Downstairs tomorrow. Table is set. I'm just moving right along. I like setting the table and cooking...hate cleaning.

Nicole, did you just take that 22 lb. turkey out today? I took our 17 lb. out Saturday afternoon, and it's just now feeling thawed.

Wish we didn't live so far apart, Glenda. 'Cause if you lived close, you'd be here helping me cook tomorrow and having dinner with us Thursday. LOL! We'd have fun and a little vino while we prepared!

I guess I am not the only one that is worn out and still not finished with my cleaning. So much extra work since they have been working around here. I think it will take 4 or five days at least for that turkey to thaw as big as it is. Hope you get it thawed in time Nicole. I hope everyone won't be too tired to enjoy Thanksgiving!

I took the bird out yesterday, made the cranberry salad today & froze the rolls. More cooking tomorrow.

DD & I are sharing working, but meal is at her place. At least if this storm comes in, we do not have to drive anywhere.

As the dinner isn't at my house, I don't have to clean. But I have to make 5 pies tomorrow. I'll have 2 Thanksgiving meals on Thursday. I'll eat with sister Annie at the Home at noon, then a few hours later will have dinner with my daughter's family.

Nope and nope. I'm tagging along with my son and daughter-in-law for dinner with her family. I do want to bring something, though, so I'll be in the kitchen tomorrow at some point.

Since I was 7 years old and moved in with my aunt and 4 of my cousins (one was married already) we have been having our Thanksgiving together. The family has really grown. all of us who were small are now grandparents and some of us are greatgrandparents. But we all live close enough to gather together every year. Sometimes there are around 50 or more of us. Friends are also invited and sometimes we have some extras.

We always have that on Thursday...

On Friday Denny and I have Thanksgiving for our family which now numbers 18.

I'll be cooking a turkey for each day. And baking deserts for both days...and side dishes too.

I'm already tuckered.

I always take this week off from work. I used to have TG at my house every year but now that both of our parents are gone people have kind of gone their separate ways. So now we go to a friend's lake cabin for TG and I no longer have to do any cleaning this week. I also don't have to do so much cooking for TG so I spend time doing other cooking and baking that I usually don't have much time for. Also making a few things to bring to the friends house but most of that I will do on Weds. I spent a good part of Monday grocery shopping and running errands.

DD#6 and her DH planned to drive up from the metro area but the forecast is for bad weather, so they won't be here today. She called yesterday and said maybe Thursday or Friday. So I have stuffing made and chilled, squash done, and will make pies today, as well as cranberry salad. I'll get a cauliflower/broccoli side sort of started, and probably make dinner rolls.

As far as cleaning goes, I just have to dust the guest room and vacuum/clean all the floors.

As far as cooking goes, the stuffing is almost done. It is what I am working on now.
The only thing left to do today are the pumpkin pies.

We are expecting 7 - one will be with us for 4 days.

We're going to my step-daughters.

I am bringing pies (pumpkin, chocolate cream, and cherry) and pumpkin pudding for step-daughter (who doesn't like pie crust). Also, some cute Turkey cookies made of fudge striped shortbread cookes, mini-peanut butter cup, rolo, and candy corn all mounted on top of a fudge covered graham cracker.

I will also bring my families traditional cranberry salad (ground fresh cranberries folded into a mix of semi-set red jello, coolwhip, crushed pineapple, finely chopped walnuts, and mini marshmallows) - delish!

We provided the turkey and I'm mixing up the dressing and taking it over to cook... but soon to be son-in-law is cooking it!

Cleaning - started and got halfway done but quit when we found out dinner wouldn't be at our house anyway :-) Will have to finish before decorating the house for Christmas this coming weekend!
