I'm sorry that you are ill, Monica.

You are so right, people think that it's just a sniffle or just a little sore throat, they don't realize what they are doing to us. When I had employees I really suffered, I appreciated that they didn't want to miss work, but I ended up in bed for 3 days.

Monica, I'm so sorry you have been sick for this long stretch. I know what you mean about people not realizing those things can be a lot harder on others.
I hope you are getting lots of rest and taking care of yourself the very best you can.

Anyone with a cold or flu should stay home or at least, away from any people, as much as possible. I hate going to the store this time of year and if I hear someone coughing or sneezing, I avoid that part of the store. And most especially avoid those who are sensitive to it, like you, Monica, or the elderly. Grrr is right!

I was just thinking this morning, I haven't had a cold in a couple of years... wonder how long that can last?

When I was working at Social Ssecurity 1979-2005 as an interviewer I hated when customers came in sick, and decided to visit Social Security that day. I had so many colds and viruses. They'd sneeze and cough all over me and say "Sorry, I'm sick but I didn't want to waste the whole day off." Yeah, you'd rather make me sick, too? Well, your taxes pay my sick days.

I haven't had a cold in years and as far as I know I've never had the flu. I am careful especially out in public, I never touch my face, to many door knobs, carts, etc..

Rest. Drink water, tea, lemonade, *anything*! Be calm. (Think no thoughts of viral pneumonia.) Stick pins in voodoo doll representing germ-spreading persons.

Monica I know exactly how you feel. I hope you get better soon....I think most people don't give it much thought but not everyone does have a good immune system. I think age sometimes affects your ability to bounce back from an exposure too.

I think my immune system is in pretty good shape now at least my tests are coming back with decent counts, but we have reached a point where we just tell people........If you are sick or exposed, come and visit some other time ..........and we always ask before we go to visit someone.

My DH caught a terrible lower respiratory infection after we came back from the cruise. He was having a terrible time just breathing. He may have gotten it on the cruise but it was almost a week after we got back. I only have one good lung and I spent a whole week isolating myself from him. I washed my hands every time I came close to him and I made him stay at least 6 or 8 feet away from me. I didn't figure it would do any good but somehow I managed not to get it...He said he felt very lonely during that week but I just couldn't take a chance on getting it.

I know how you feel,tenfold...have this DIL that seems to think that what is wrong with me,is all in my head...doesn't seem to matter to her,that once I have "been exposed" to anything,I get sick...really sick.

I had a cold last week ... runny nose for a couple of days ... coughing for three or four (I think not contagious now) and on the day of the senior men's coffee hour at church (changed name to "ROMEO" (Retired Old Men Eating Out" some time ago) I figured that I should stay home, as I did not want to pass on my condition to even one or two of a dozen and a half or so attendees.

I'd said that they should change name to "ROMDO" (Retired Old Men Drinking Out), as it was a coffee hour ... but they wouldn't touch that title with a 20-foot pole. Too much of the old Methodist continues, maybe? Canadian Methodists merged with most of Presbyterians, Congregationalists into United Church, 85 years ago.

I try to avoid going out in public when, seldom, I'm carrying something nefarious.

But, as an extra precaution, can you wear a hat or button bearing "C I S" (Compromised Immune System) in big letters, to warn me off, please?

Usually if someone tells me they have a cold, I avoid them. But with the grand kids, it's a different story. Got some crap from them twice already.

Haha Moni you are so right. One daughter lives in CT and I have always gone for visits where I stay a week or more and I swear to you, I always came home sick or got sick as soon as I got home. I even came home one time with the pink eye. Grand Kids can be dangerous to your health....LOL

I haven't had a cold in probably 15 years, but house sitting for my friend, I got a horrible sty. She had just had a bout of pink eye. I wouldn't sleep in her bed. I washed and dried a comforter and spread it over her couch and slept there for the 7 weeks I was there...and I still got a sty.
I got sick from water blasting her raccoon cage because the boy she hired didn't do a good job. Once I got sick though, I had to stop. It was too big and too nasty a job.

I hate when someone coughs or sneezes any where near me. I will turn around and go the opposite direction. Something I also hate is when someone checking me out at the store or pharmacy, will cough on their hand and then hand me my change. I think I have a pretty good immune system, but I still don't like to press my luck.
