Yikes--it's next week!

Nobody's posted about Thanksgiving yet and looked at the calendar and see that it's next week. Have you made your menu yet? Eating at home or away? I'd love to hear what's on the menu, either way. Also, do you just HAVE to have the same thing every year, or do you change it out?

Canadians have the right idea--have it in October!

I usually fix the same thing every year. DDIL will cook the bird and I'll do the rest.
mashed potato's, sweet potato casserale, baked pineapple (son loves it) a veg, rolls & banana pudding. I'm not doing alot with DH not here. Its coming up fast isn't it?

I just back from the grocery store. Happened to remember it was Thanksgiving next week so I picked up frozen pecan and pumpkin pies. I need to get the kids started on the menu so I can get there before the rush. The kids desperately want to cook so they get to design the menu.

JoJo Siwa.....ha ha And a Peloton fitness instructor......☺ I see why ya all don't like the cast. It's not a show I watch.....but ..... I DO LIKE Tyra Banks....she is amazing! What she's accomplished is AMAZING! I didn't like her as a host on AGT tho. I thought Nick Canon's shoes were too hard to fill. ♥

Next week, a week of over 100 degree weather

We just got rain and a lot of wind that are supposed to cool us down all the way 95 or so tomorrow. Temps will be back to 100 and above this weekend through at least middle of next week. I have a rain gauge on either side of the house. They are usually within 1/4 to 1/2 inch of each other, but tonight, I was checking them in the dark, but the side yard measured about an inch and a half and the backyard one measured less than half an inch. I wish I had a rain gauge the chairs around the fire pit are in a pile along with the umbrella, our yard recycling can and some other things. In the front yard, we had a lot of debris -- leaves, small branches and such covering everything like mulch and two large branches down on our largest oak tree. Then I discovered an apple tree in the side yard had blown down. The neighbor across the street from our son lost all or most of a tree that was across the road going to his house. I suspect we lost trees and parts of trees all around us.

Possible frost predicted for the northeast early next week

I just looked at the weather for the upcoming week, and highs will only be in the low 60's with a good portion of the week only in the 50s. Much too cool for warm-season annuals and vegetables. I may plant the annuals that go in the pots on the deck, the soil in the pots will be warmer than the ground, but will hold off on the rest until the weekend, or maybe even after Memorial Day. I learned my lesson years ago planting during cool, wet spring weather = rot.

We always go to my sister's house and her husband does all the cooking. The rest of us relax, drink wine, play games, then overOVERstuff ourselves! Fun fun fun.

He always makes the same thing and it's wonderful. Turkey and two kinds of stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, sweet potato casserole, whipped potatoes, broccoli, brussels sprouts, rolls, and I'm probably forgetting a dish or two. It's a FEAST.

Then usually four kinds of pie for dessert. Pecan, pumpkin, apple & cherry.

The next day my kids (adult age) and husband and I get up super early and drive 3 hours to a huge outlet mall and shop all day. We go to the same hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant for lunch every year and change it up for dinner. After dinner, we drive home. Our day goes from about 5 am to 11 pm. It's a blast.

That leaves Sat & Sun to laze around the house and eat very little. Recovery time. I LOVE Thanksgiving!

Neighbor friend and I have reservations at The Wynfrey for their Thanksgiving brunch. And. WOW, the prices sure have rocketed, since the last time I went.

    We have reservations for 11:30.

You name it, they have it.

Plus someone playing the grand piano, ice sculptures, mimosa fountain, and Santa Claus. Dressup time.

You're right Patti! LOVE having it in October. Then I get hungry for turkey all over again, reading about all of your menus.

I'd love to read about your dinners so what are you all having?

I need some poutlry seasoning but the store is out of it today- no sage, either. I hate having to shop at different stores to find what I need. We will have the usual turkey done by our son and DIL, then everyone else brings sides. There will be about 15 here. I usually do an extra turkey breast and our daughter wants some Honey Baked ham. We always have too much food left but leftovers are good.

To make your own poultry seasoning, combine 3 parts thyme, 2 parts sage, 2 parts marjoram, 1 part rosemary, and 1 part pepper. You can add a pinch of nutmeg, oregano, or savory if you feel you haven't done enough already.

I realized today too that Thanksgiving is next week! Where did November go? At this rate spring will be here!! YAAA!!!!
We're having the usual dinner, which is just fine with everyone. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!!

I was not in the mood for turkey last week, so I thought we'd do a standing rib roast with Yorkshire pudding. But, today I don't want to stray so far from the ususal.

It will just be Harry and me, my DD, SIL and DGS. My new menu is:

    Cornish game hens
    Wild rice dressing
    Mashed potatoes
    Gravy
Noodles (maybe, if I get around to making them)
    Glazed carrots
    Green beans
Cranberry sauce (whole, straight out of the can)
    Yeast rolls
    Pumpkin pie
    Banana pudding

    We'll be having,

    Turkey
Dressing (And this time NOT Stove Top)
    Gravy
    Rolls
    Mashed potatoes
    Salad
    Baked macaroni and cheese
    Green beans
    Corn
    Cranberry sauce
    Pumpkin pie

    Mmmmm! Now I'm getting hungry!

I was trying to decide what to do....we always had mom, stepdad and my brother & wife, but since mom died that tradition went with her I guess. So we usually join my BFF and his partner and family. They are heading to Chattanooga and we have decided that we just cannot get away again so we are staying here and hosting a woman and her kids who are housed at the Women's center here. I'm looking forward to it.

    patti, your menu sounds delicious!

I miss cooking for Thanksgiving :o( Not my choice.

We're having turkey, ham, stuffing (boxed), canned jelled cranberry sauce (grew up eating it so it's tradition at my house), black olives (will make a tray with carrots and celery too maybe), corn casserole, baked sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes and gravy, pumpkin pie and Sister Shubert dinner rolls. I asked Lauren is she cared if I made my homemade buttermilk yeast rolls and she mentioned the frozen ones, saying she liked them as much. So, I figure, why go through all that work? I may pick up some vanilla ice cream to go with the pumpkin pie too or cool whip.

If I were to be the one cooking, I would have
    Turkey
    Mashed Potatoes
    Rutabega puree
    turkey gravy
fresh green beans.....cooked with bacon and onions
    Pork stuffing
    Rolls and butter
    pumpkin pie- homemade
    jellied cranberry sauce
    apple pie-homemade
But we have been invited to visit friends in the Palm Springs area so I know we won't have the pork stuffing and rutabegas....but she makes the best green bean casserole but not with creamed soup.

Glenda, I will pass on your recipe for your poultry seasoning to another son who likes to cook. He would enjoy making his own. He has usually cooked for us at Thanksgiving or Christmas but he and family are staying home this year. We will miss them and not just for his cooking.

My 2 sons will be in for Thanksiving. We're going to a local resturant. This year, they offer a buffet at $10 per person. Wife likes the idea.

We have such a small kitchen it would be a PITA to try to cook a big meal, especially the both of us, and what fun is cooking a big meal if you have to do it by yourself? So, we will order the meal from the grocery store, not have to fuss, but will have the yummy left overs. I hope they are yummy anyway.

I do the thanksgiving meal, it will be 4 of my 5 brothers and most of their families, my mom and her husband and of course me and my husband. I am doing:
Grilled turkey, I'll brine it overnight first.
Fruited wild rice dressing with dried cherries and apricots.
    Mashed potatoes (I use a ricer)and gravy.
Sweet potato puree stuffed in orange cups.
    Cranberry salsa
Green beans with roasted fingerling potatoes.
Mac and cheese (brother is in charge of that)
    Corn pudding
    Clam chowder
    Breads/rolls
Rasberry/ginger ale punch with pinapple and limes.
I'm getting tired just thinking of it.
Mom will bring the pies and other family members will bring additional side dishes and salads. We will host 26 this year which means we will all be able to sit down together. When we have the whole family we end up splitting it up in two rooms.

    Decisions, decisions......which one will I attend? :)
All of your dinners sound so good!

Yikes is right. Not sure, what I will do. Haven't given it much thought.

May just do a me, myself and I day.

Oldest daughter is vegan, and besides, has plans. Younger daughter would be thrilled if I came... but is 8+ hours away, and I only have Thursday off.

I understand Glenda more and more.

Speaking of Glenda, Thanks for the poultry mix. I saved it.

Moni, who will have turkey and gravy no matter what!

I was just planning my meal while I was walking this morning. I didn't like the reading on the scale when I got on it so it is cut back time. It's just DH and me so I think I will just get a turkey breast...no dark meat. I'm going to make mashed potatoes with fat free buttermilk. Very tasty without all the extra calories. Green beans with roasted onions on top....once again, low in calories. I will probably make a little bit of cranberry sauce and maybe a little bit of dressing. Baked apple with cinnamon and raisins for dessert. I know it doesn't sound that exciting but it's a little taste of Thanksgiving without all the calories. Trying to dump a few pounds before the Christmas eating frenzy starts.

we're in a 40 year rut for menu, lol...have shopped around for the turkey breat i want, and that will be sam's club..paying too much, but don't care...i like jennie-o brand...

having to double stuff since we're actually having one of the kids over...(dil can't travel, she's due dec 23) it's the first time in ages we're not alone for dinner..the kids stop by for dessert from other inlaws...now i have to get dressed! lol...we'll all see each other though, on friday or saturday...

Since the kids have flown the coop, we'll just cook a turkey breast. Hope to find a nice sale on fresh breasts in the next few days. I've been brining my turkey overnight, then cook in one of those Reynolds Oven Bags. Mashed potatoes, baked squash, gravy, cranberries, mixed vegetables. Only thing I haven't decided on is dessert. My Mom used to have a "rule of thumb"- one dessert per person, so we'll have plenty for leftovers and to send home with kids. We have invited our two (single) daughters to come for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, or dessert. Boyfriends are welcome. I sent my sisters and my sister in law a Thanksgiving gift of cans of Williams Sonoma Turkey gravy and Cranberry Sauce. We're not exchanging Christmas gifts anymore. DH and I generally buy something for our house-last year it was a small electric fireplace.

Going to nephew's house. Don't know what's on the menu, but I'm bringing Cajun Shrimp Caesar Salad and a pan of gingerbread.
