DESPERATE! Please help choose our floor--reno starts next week!
Comments (34)Joy--The floors in the picture are about 5 years old. The new floors will be lighter at first, but will reach that same color in probably only a few months. We shouldn't have a problem feathering in the new wood and creating a new transition. Ptamom--thanks for the compliment on the cabinets. And I know exactly what you're saying about stuff shattering on tile. That's definitely a drawback. We haven't chosen a backsplash yet, but would gravitate toward lighter if we choose the wood floor. ca_mom--the cabs aren't Brazilian cherry and the floors are at their aged color, so unfortunately that's how they will look together 5 years from now. But, yes, the wood is a bit cheaper and the installation is a lot cheaper than tile. That's a bonus! Chinchette--Thanks for the alternate view. It's such a nice space (love your ceramic gecko!), and it's nice to see how well it works with the wood and tile right next to each other. I was speaking to the associate at the tile store yesterday and she too said to NOT put any type of threshold/transition strip between the two. Now that I see yours, it makes sense!...See MoreDemolition starts next week! OMG!
Comments (6)I feel for you. We started around April with full demolition June 30. I had my kitchen usable by Thanksgiving. This week we have new hardwood floors finished. Full bathroom gutted but I am here to tell you it is really all worth it in the end. We too did an addition and knocked out the back wall of the kitchen to add a 30x16 foot addition. It added to existing bath and an upstairs laundry room. It all has surpassed my dreams. Taking a long time but so worth it in the end....See MoreWeek 72: losing steam...
Comments (21)Over 10 years I've lost steam for months at a time. In between (up to) 3 jobs, depression, overwhelmingness, (I made that up) and money, it's truly been slow going. I remind myself that anything is a step forward. Often the thing I feel like working on requires several other things to be done first, which also lets the steam out. When I lose steam, it's couch, staring, cookie dough, and wallowing. The thing is, I've learned that the few times I find myself actually bored, is when I'm procrastinating. I have lots of those "broken teeth" projects I just don't want to start. Sometimes they require something as horrendously difficult as changing a drill bit. Like mushcreek, I read and read. Oh, my do I read. I've learned a lot, of course, and I can visualize my projects. Many times I don't have the skill sets to get them out of my head, so that creates more released steam. Instead, I save. Save. SAVE. I devote savings to something there's no way I'd ever be able to afford or find on CL. That helps me keep going with the work aspects of my life. Kids? Good luck to ya'll. (I'm not southern.) I'm glad it's you and not me. I would probably have to get off the couch and share the cookie dough. NOT happening. At this very minute I'm procrastinating. I need to go unload 4 antique doors from my truck (think: HEAVY) and go get the 4th in DC. They're going to replace the very ugly sliders on the front of the house. Gotta figure out if there's any energy efficiency, but I can (procrastinate) worry about that later. Steam is building, but it's at a simmer right now....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 5/14
Comments (31)This is kind of a vent - I'll start out with the positives - I am getting stronger. And that is super important as we age. It is a goal. And I feel good about the way my body is moving better. It feels good to be stronger. I feel happier when I exercise. I still have so much room for improvement, but I do feel like I am moving forward. The weights I can lift now are more than when I started. My pushups are better. BUT... :) Three months ago I started working with my trainer. I only go once a week, and I can't go when I travel, so it's not like I've been all in. But I I have made an effort in that time to concentrate on protein and resistance/weight work throughout the week. She did a full body scan with measurements the first day and today I had a comparison scan. First - seeing an unedited 360 degree scan of yourself is eye opening in itself :) But in these three months I was up 3 pounds. I was down 2 inches in the bust and one in the hips. I had a loose t-shirt on the first time, so I can't get a true comparison on the waist and the bust might not be that big of a change. NO real change in biceps or thighs or calves. I'm a little sad about it. I mean I guess data is always helpful - if what I'm doing isn't working, then I need to do something else. I'm going to continue with the resistance, because it is good for me. But I don't want to just get stronger. I think I'd like to get smaller. And maybe that's not a healthy mindset. All my life I have been tuned into the number on the scale. Up and down, a big number, a smaller number, a number always more than DH because we are almost the same height and built entirely different. Why do we give numbers so much power? This time I wanted the inches to be smaller. Why can't I see the health and strength progress I've made? Why do I have to force myself to say the positives first instead of those being the lead in my journey? Anyway, vent over. I am going to keep on with the strength training because it makes me feel good and I know it's good for me But, maybe tweak my diet some and see where I get, because I still can't give up on that weight number:) What a mindset I've worked myself into all these years....See More3katz4me
