Healthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 8/14
Comments (37)@legomom, the sit/stand thing is always an concern for me-- I have a genetic blood disease that greatly increases the chance of blood clots... and now that I am working at home, I sit much more than ever. I don't think a standing desk would work for me but I should consider one... in the short term I can definitely get up in move. I think my neighborhood is similar to yours-- not all roads have sidewalks but it is safe and "walkable" .. but you can't really walk anywhere. You can walk the neighborhood. I would be ok with that except that my vision issues make it unsafe for me. I can best walk with someone in front of me-- which is a possibility maybe if i can get a walking partner. I basically have no depth perception, double vision and poor focus. I can't focus on moving things or changing focal points. I am best in full light with high contrast. I am a mess, huh? lol. I really do love the idea of short stints of exercise-- i am going to start tomorrow! No-- now, I REALLY need to get up. My behind hurts! ETA I think I could walk on a track without issues.. but since I don't drive that is a little bit of an issue. I may uber to a track once a week.. or try to rope a niece into walking with me. One also has some weight to lose so that's an option if she's game....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 3/26
Comments (31)I listened to a portion of the podcast above and read through the document Sue shared (as well as another similar one I found). I think there are some interesting points and certainly some guidelines I can roll into my weekly diet -- but I don't think I can completely follow the "reset". Sure, there are things that will be hard because I have leaned into the carbs in recent past but there are a handful of deal breakers for me -- like coffee. Bullet-proof coffee does not sound appealing to me and my early morning coffee is seriously one of my joys in the day. I often go to sleep looking forward to waking in the early hours and having my coffee. It's part of a ritual of self care .. 1-2 hrs of quiet time before emails and calls start coming in. Still, there are lessons to be had .. I know I need to make some changes in order to start losing weight again .. so I will be digging in deeper to the program and recipes. I think my biggest fault right now is that I have been spending very little thought and time on preparing food. It is partially that I've been lazy and partially that I've been bored. And maybe a bit defiant also. Sometimes, I just eat what I want-- or think I want. I need to be more intentional... and accountable. @Sueb20 have you started the 21-day re-set yet? If so, how is it going? @legomom23 I appreciate the information/links you bring to our group! So helpful! Like you, I have been giving into items on the "slow down" list ... and I think they are the reason I have been feeling slow and bloated. I will be starting there! @Zalco/bring back Sophie! sorry to hear you are still dealing with house issues. Stress usually causes me to eat much less but lately, it has gone the other direction. Protein and veggies sounds like a good strategy -- I know I can deal with life better when I am feeling better/stronger. Hope things start going more smoothly with the repairs/issues. Thank you all for sharing your thoughts and experiences. It is so helpful to hear what others are doing to improve their health! My eye infection is getting better but it is still annoying and gross... and it is adding to the issues I already had with my vision. Hoping it will clear in another handful of days. Thanks for the kind thoughts. Have a great rest of your week!...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 5/7
Comments (34)So i realized today that I am about 1/2 way to wear I think I will be comfortable weight wise. It's been 2 yr that I have been focused on losing and I am down 68 lb. Still a long way to go but pretty much where I was weight wise in my late 30s.. and by 40, I was down to a comfortable weight (which I maintained until my late 40s). The target I am envisioning is still larger than most women would be happy with -- but I know I don't like how I look when "skinny". My bone structure is too big. I appreciate all the support from you all .. and it helps a lot.. but I am not happy with my appearance and I don't feel strong or fit. i recently passed an important personal milestone (the weight I was when I met SO) but I expected to feel better about my progress at this point. I was more fit then... but I was also in love lol so there's that too. I will keep pressing forward as I am seeking better health AND I want to look better. They will both come. I just need to stop focusing on my appearance. It is absolutely better than it was 68lb ago and I think it will change even faster over the next 68lb. It's funny, Niece#2 is struggling with the same. She's lost 28 lb since December but is currently stalled. I give HER all teh advice I should be giving myself. So now after I talk to her, I give myself the same pep talk I've just given her. And to you all.. we really need to celebrate our successes both healthwise and weight wise and stop undermining our progress with the "not good enoughs"....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 5/21
Comments (25)Congratulations Funky! Your non scale victories are really adding up. Keep being proud of yourself and celebrate your accomplishments! @yeonassky - I've been trying to add weights to my workout since about the first of the year and I love feeling stronger. I haven't noticed a huge body composition change yet, but I am definitely getting stronger. I love the little goals along the way - I can do a mostly real pushup now:) and just a couple weeks ago I started dead hanging. I couldn't get my feet off the ground, and today I hung for a count of 10. It really has amazed me - I don't think I've felt this proud of myself in years:) I would LOVE to be able to do one pull-up. Even as a young girl trying to climb the rope in elementary school gym class, I never had any upper body strength So the thought of a pull-up really makes me happy. Something to work towards. My diet has been ok. I've been pretty lax with the not so great foods, so I should probably tighten that up some, but otherwise it's been pretty steady. For me, it comes down to a good night's sleep and a great breakfast with all the protein and fiber. If I mess up my morning, I have a hard time with the rest of the day. @pricklypearcactus - I hate that you have those food struggles. That really does complicate things that are already difficult. @gsciencechick - I love that you are feeling so optimistic about your upcoming birthday. There is something about being in a better place than last year that makes you feel good! All the young forever people like to say - your birthday is just your chronological age. You are in charge of your body's biological age....See MoreFunkyart
