Healthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 2/5
Comments (18)" I’m coming up on my year anniversary with my CGM and my nutrionist. I thought that would be an end for me. I pictured some before and after one year success post. But I realized I’m still on a path and learning, still a work in progress, so I’m going to continue with both. It’s working for me. The knowledge and accountability are really good for me, and like the quote goes- “I’m worth it”😀 My health is worth it. " @legomom23 this really resonated with me this morning. I didn't think I'd be "done" by now but I definitely had visions of being closer to my target weight, stronger and just more generally healthy. My BIL's heart attack really brought home the message that there is no "done". It's a lifetime commitment. BIL was never overweight and is always active. If he can have a heart attack, any of us could. I do recognize that there are a lot of factors at play-- including genetics-- but I am going to do all I can to better control my eating and my weight. I am not happy with where I am today-- sure, I made some good progress and I am not going to sniff at that... but I am not going to let myself coast anymore. If I am honest with myself, I have been coasting for at least 4 months. I have been ok with "mostly healthy" which has allowed me to justify some major deviations. I need to accept that "mostly healthy" isn't good enough if I want to get to a healthy weight ... and that means many more vegetables. I have been more "hungry" this winter... but have I really?? I think I have been bored, prone to indulgence and have had a need for comfort. Those aren't hunger issues. They're issues to manage in my life.. not my diet. Legomom, I think we have both responded well to the volumetrics approach to eating. Fill up on the good stuff. I enjoy eating like that ... and I don't have any real excuse for why I stopped. The other thing I have noticed is that when my healthy behaviors took a dive.. so did the quality of my sleep. Diet pepsi didn't help either LOL. Now that I am moving back to a healthier routine (and not drinking DP), I am sleeping better! It makes such a difference in my day....See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 3/5
Comments (17)GS sounds great-- I had more beans this week too and I will keep that up. I like them and they are sooo filling! And thanks for mentioning facials, massages etc .. your post encouraged me to use self care kinda things for "treats".. the next bunch of weeks are going to be a strain and my birthday is in April. I will definitely be wanting treats and rewards that are not food! I think I may get some new sneakers too-- I have been wanting to try the On Cloud sneakers ever since I bought my niece a pair in Oct. Sue, great roadtrip options! Hope you have a great trip! Is this the weekend in PA? I had actually thought about going into Phila today but nixed that when the temps plummeted. Among other things, I wanted to go to the Weitzman museum downtown to choose another trovelore pin for my jean jacket. Instead, I will make a pot of soup today -- not sure what as yet. I have to consult the pantry and go from there. I am also going to do some shopping for tops and/or jewelry to up my video game. I have been doing 5-6 interviews a week and I have been looking blah. i want to perk up my look!...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 3/26
Comments (31)I listened to a portion of the podcast above and read through the document Sue shared (as well as another similar one I found). I think there are some interesting points and certainly some guidelines I can roll into my weekly diet -- but I don't think I can completely follow the "reset". Sure, there are things that will be hard because I have leaned into the carbs in recent past but there are a handful of deal breakers for me -- like coffee. Bullet-proof coffee does not sound appealing to me and my early morning coffee is seriously one of my joys in the day. I often go to sleep looking forward to waking in the early hours and having my coffee. It's part of a ritual of self care .. 1-2 hrs of quiet time before emails and calls start coming in. Still, there are lessons to be had .. I know I need to make some changes in order to start losing weight again .. so I will be digging in deeper to the program and recipes. I think my biggest fault right now is that I have been spending very little thought and time on preparing food. It is partially that I've been lazy and partially that I've been bored. And maybe a bit defiant also. Sometimes, I just eat what I want-- or think I want. I need to be more intentional... and accountable. @Sueb20 have you started the 21-day re-set yet? If so, how is it going? @legomom23 I appreciate the information/links you bring to our group! So helpful! Like you, I have been giving into items on the "slow down" list ... and I think they are the reason I have been feeling slow and bloated. I will be starting there! @Zalco/bring back Sophie! sorry to hear you are still dealing with house issues. Stress usually causes me to eat much less but lately, it has gone the other direction. Protein and veggies sounds like a good strategy -- I know I can deal with life better when I am feeling better/stronger. Hope things start going more smoothly with the repairs/issues. Thank you all for sharing your thoughts and experiences. It is so helpful to hear what others are doing to improve their health! My eye infection is getting better but it is still annoying and gross... and it is adding to the issues I already had with my vision. Hoping it will clear in another handful of days. Thanks for the kind thoughts. Have a great rest of your week!...See MoreHealthy Lifestyle Progress - Week of 7/16/2023
Comments (20)Here I am bringing up the rear - seems to be a pattern for me most weeks! I applaud all who have lost weight no matter the amount or the length of time it took. The older we get, the harder it is to take off those stubborn pounds and I really appreciate how hard everyone is working. It doesn't go along with the calorie/weight charts, but I find that if I consume more than 1200ish calories per day I gain. To lose, I have to drop my intake to about a 1000/day. Exercising helps a bit, but I think it keeps us healthy more than it helps us lose weight. At least for me that's the way it seems to work. Funky, I know it's a few weeks off, but enjoy your vacation and be proud of how much you have lost. That's a lot of hard work you've done and you should pat yourself on the back. Bunny, I did Invisalign a few years ago and it took a couple of months before I noticed any difference in how my teeth look. But, I knew it was working because my teeth were always sore for 2-3 days after getting new trays and I could feel the gentle pressure the trays were putting on my teeth. The original plan was for 18 months, but at the end of that time, my dentist decided to go an additional six months. It was all worth it as I now have beautiful straight teeth and I feel so much more confident when I smile. During the time I was wearing them only one person noticed and commented, but she was someone who was considering doing it herself so she was tuned in to them. As far as not leaving them in as much as recommended, I wasn't always diligent. I like to drink tea in the mornings, and because I'd been told that tea would stain the trays and my teeth, I'd leave them out in the mornings so I could enjoy tea time. In the end, I don't think it mattered; I got the end result I was after. We were out of town last week, and despite my best intentions, I did not get much movement in. We were in the car for several hours a day each day and when we did stop for the day, it was so hot (triple digits) I just could not bring myself to move around. I tried to be careful what I ate, but when out of town and eating out, there are so many temptations. I don't think I gained any weight, but I felt so bloated when we got home. After getting back on my regular routine, I'm feeling much more myself. I hope all of you have had a great week and that next week is even better! :)...See MoreFunkyart
