Good Lord Melissa, I am as far from squeemish as one can get, but praise the Lord you survived that unharmed. The only thing worse than it killing you may have been surviving as a vegetable. I have used a chainsaw for hundreds of hours and I use in in what some call a risky manner, but I never-ever let anyone be within range of being hurt when I take my chances. One note to anyone who uses a chainsaw, and ignore the exhaust, two years ago I was up in a tree crotch with room for one foot and the chainsaw. The other foot was up at an angle braced against a different branch. Was of those situations where getting up is easy but getting back down is whole different proposition because one of the major branches one uses to get there, is now on the ground. Well I could not hold my self up with one hand reach the ladder without setting down the chainsaw next to my leg, I was wearing shorts and was barefoot. The saw has an auto chain disconnect that works when it wants to, so I had to make sure the blade was pointing away from me. I felt a warm spot on my leg but I thought well at least I am not close enough to the exhaust to get a burn. Guess again, it burned me although it really did not feel hot enough for that, to the point I now have permanent scare about one inch wide and two inches long.

One of the dumbest things I did was many years ago, I was playing with a kitten in my DR. We were having great fun batting around a golf ball until the ball rolled under the DR hutch. I was on my knees at the time, so without thinking at all, I put my face and shoulders down on the floor and reached with my right arm under the hutch to get the ball...couldn't quite reach so i reached in a little further, a little further, stretched a little more, until I grabbed it. Then I went to pull my arm out and it wouldn't budge. I mean it was really wedged. So here I am, face down on the floor, home alone, DH won't be home for hours with my arm wedged under the hutch and no way to get to a phone or call for help. As I'm laying there trying to assess the situation, I realize my arm is starting to go numb and is starting to swell up. I can't just wait for help. I have to get my arm out before I'm in real trouble. Fortunately at the time, I was young and fairly flexible. So I managed to twist to my side so my knee and shin were up against the front of the hutch for leverage and I pulled...I mean really pulled...and managed to free myself. My arm was all scraped and somewhat bruised, but I was free and I was ok. How scary was that! What to do next? Why keep playing with the kitten and the ball of course. Would you believe, the ball went under there again, and without thinking, the next thing I knew I was reaching under there again? Fortunately the wiser part of my brain started screaming at me, "Idiot! Do you want to get stuck again?!?!" and I stopped myself in time...and got a yardstick to fetch the ball. Man! How dumb can you get!

My experience is that in most states you have to be seizure free for a certain amount of time before you can drive, but that is usually with epilepsy...I'm not sure if the same rule applies if the seizure has other causes (like a TBI). People who have seizures due to TBI, like those who have epilepsy, cannot drive until they are seizure free for a certain period of time. Cardamom, I wouldn't worry about that right now if I were you. Many, many people are able to take seizure medication and drive. Right now you don't know if he will continue to have seizures or not. And if he does have seizures, you don't know if they can be effectively prevented by medication. Try not to worry about that part of it right now. I know very well how frightened you must be. Take care of yourself as best you can. Remember that you will have a lot to do as he recovers, so take care of yourself while he's in the hospital. And remember that whatever happens, you will be fine and you will be able to do what you need to do. You will get a lot of advice from different people, and you will have to sift through it and find what works for you and your family. My advice would be different from marie-ndcal's. I did ask a lot of questions about things pertaining to rehab, etc. But I didn't ask a lot of questions from everyone I dealt with. For me, I found it was best to narrow my information pipeline. I got so much conflicting information from people, including health care professionals, that after awhile it was more practical to streamline the information flow. And also (and this is different for each individual), there were certain details about his injuries that I just couldn't handle. I could only cope with so much at a time. I never asked about his Glasgow Scale score at all, and I thank God I didn't know or find out until way later down the road. I would have crumpled to the floor like a little baby. Fortunately, my husband's parents are very intelligent and capable health care professionals and looked over his meds, statistics, etc. I noticed that they didn't ask a lot of questions, either, about his medications, etc. That's probably because they knew what should be done and knew he was getting the right care for the situation. If, like marie-ndcal's daughter, you want to or need to ask a lot of questions, don't hesitate to do it. I will say that from the time my husband entered neuro intensive care onward, the doctors, nurses, therapists and social workers were very good about keeping me informed about everything I needed to know. If you feel that you aren't being given enough information, don't hesitate to ask. You will need to be your husband's best advocate, so be as informed as you need to be. Although I didn't ask a lot of questions about my husband's meds, etc., I was very proactive with anything to do with rehab, including making sure he got all of his testing lined up as quick as was reasonable, so that he could be transferred to a rehab hospital as soon as possible. I tried to observe as much as I could there and ask a lot of questions. We were able to support him and help him much better once he came home because of that. Ravencajun is right, every brain case is different. The doctors and nurses will tell you that. You will find what works best for your husband's situation. Take care of yourself and make sure you eat something every day. Whatever you do, remember that you will be fine, and that you will be able to do everything you need to do. My thoughts and prayers will be with you.

Glad to hear you are going to get to the bottom of your painful foot with a doctor. Interesting that I just heard from a younger friend who is a running buddy. She has been having some pain in the ball of her foot but no known injury per se. She also does pure barre once a week as cross-training. Turned out she had a fracture of the sesamoid bone. I had to look this up, but your foot actually has 2 small pea-sized bones just below the toe in the area of the ball of the foot. As many have pointed out, there are many small bones in the foot you could have injured, not to mention the associated tendons, etc. So hang in there, deee, and rest that foot. My friend was told to lay off any running and pure barre for at least a month.
