A clean house is the best air freshener.

I don't use air fresheners because I have a bird. I also have cats (down to 1 now) but even when I had a houseful of furry pets (dogs and cats), the house didn't smell like them.

I keep my litter boxes clean, vacuum regularly and keep the house open when it's nice out. If a house is closed up, it will smell musty over time.

I don't like air fresheners. I'd rather just clean often and open the windows as much as possible.

We have a cat also - an indoor cat. I keep her litter boxes as clean as possible and use the little pine pellets for litter, which have a natural deodorizer.

*Occasionally* I put spices - like cinnamon and cloves - in a pan on the stove or in a steamer on the wood stove. It makes the house smell like I've been baking!

I don't use the plug ins....my husband likes the Cashmere Woods scent you posted about..in his bathroom...I have some Febreze scents and a Lysol Vanilla...kills germs...I have candles that are usually left unlit, they can still scent the area a little.

We have 8 cats now, had 9 until last month. I don't use air freshners nor do I use plug ins, I'm in the insurance business and I've seen the claims for the plug ins. Our carpeted areas are vacuumed daily with a dyson, that works best for us. Once a month or so I put down baking soda and borax on the carpet, we walk on it a couple of days and then vacuum. Keeps my turquoise carpet bright and odors are not a problem. Boxes are changed daily. We will light the occasional tea light/warmers on damp chilly nights.

Unless your fragrances are made with all natural oils, they are likely rather toxic. That's what dees means about the bird, which are very sensitive to those toxins.

Salgal, as long as your kitties aren't going to the bathroom somewhere besides their litter boxes, your house probably doesn't smell of cats. Keeping the boxes cleaned and changed does the trick.

I do have a little ceramic oil warmer that heats up my favorite essential oils so that the fragrance wafts over the room.

Asthma here. No Febreze, candles, oils, sprays, etc. I've de-scented some musty throw pillows with a vinegar/water spray, dried in the sun.

How does Febreze work? I recall some product that blocked the human ability to detect the odor -- didn't remove it.

I don't use plugin units, but have a glade free-standing unit in my kitchen and one of the bathrooms.

I use a fragrance lamp which eliminates odors and leaves a nice scent. I particularly like the fruit scents and there's a Bayberry one that I love for the holidays. I mix my oils with 91% alcohol so they are not so overbearing (plus it saves on the cost). I burn my lamp once or twice a week.

Don't use freshener's that much, but I keep fresh linen and the citrus freshners when needed.

Thing is - air fresheners don't *eliminate* odors - they just cover them up, sometimes leaving a stink worse than the original. Seems like it's better to do things like keep rooms clean or use fans to remove the odor from the room.

Only in the form of opening windows, and letting fresh air in. None of those air wick and what evers in my house.

I have asthma and am very sensitive to air fresheners. I open windows whenever I can.

I don't use plug-ins for the safety reasons already stated. I will occasionally use a quick spray of febreeze if company is coming. The litter box gets cleaned out twice a day and floors swept/vacuumed daily as well. I keep my windows and doors open all day. Lucky that I am able to do that as our weather stays mild.

As the holiday season approaches many stores carry cinnamon scented pine cones that are so strong. I normally like cinnamon, but not this intense.

I have bad scent allergies.
I use occasionally a real Lampe Berger and the real Lampe Berger scents. They do clean the air and kill germs. They were originally used in the hospitals in France for killing germs in the air. They are great and only use the finest quality oils and alcohol. I have never had a problem with the real deal however the fake knockoff ones do trigger my asthma. They are very popular in Louisiana and the South.

I very often open up the house and let the air flow through. Today I did that till it got chilly and I had to close the doors.

Baking cookies & pie creates the home smelll. And you can eat them.

I air my house out everyday, year round. I love fresh air;) In the bathrom where we keep out cat box, which is right by the familyroom~~I burn a stick of Nag Champ incense, daily. Once in a while a candle, I burned one recently called 'bonfire' I got at a Wiccian shop.

I also burn lavendar/rosemary and sage once in awhile, got that at the same shop~~~a cat died in our attic and it was a bit smelly and I felt there was bad mojo in there. This combo of herbs was good for that and it is natural, smells very nice~~Namaste~

My house always has open windows, so I generally don't need an air freshener. I do keep a can of Oust for rare occasions when cooking smells waft out of the kitchen. I also keep an unlit candle in the kitchen window. The sun warms it and it releases a tiny bit of scent, the perfect amount for me as I am highly sensitive to perfumes.

I have a can of old fashioned Lysol that I keep in both bathrooms. I swear some around here can peel the paint off the walls. I have everyone trained to spray a little when they leave the bathroom.

I LOVE LOVE candles & essential oils and burn them daily. I can't open the windows do to the goldenrod that grows wild around here. That will set off an allergy attack.

I grind up lemons in the garbage disposal....our lemon tree is very productive all year long.
And our weather is wonderful so our windows are open a lot.

I like scented candles & oil diffusers - not so much as an air freshener but just because I like the nice scents. During the summer I like scents like lemon & lime. During the fall & winter, I like scents like cinnamon or vanilla. One of my absolute favorites is the one I use for Christmas - Woodwick's Frasier Fir. It makes the house smell like I have a live Christmas tree.

For my birthday my dear neighbor got me from Bath and Body World a plug in air freshener with my favorite scent, Japanese Cherry Blossom. I have it in my bathroom off my bedroom and both rooms smell sooo good. The fragrance even travels out into the diningroom.

Nope. Gives me a headache. Fresh air is the best, but when it's below 40 degrees out I can't open the windows.

At Christmastime I might burn a Yankee candle (evergreen or cedar) for an hour or less.

I wait for a suuny dry day, then open all the windows in the house for about 30 minutes. Better than any fragrance..

I use a closet air freshener in DHs closet. Otherwise, I just open the windows. Luckily, we live in a mild climate.

My bedroom window is open year round unless it goes below 20. I don't light candles or use sprays. I have four cats and their boxes are in the basement but one is upstairs. It's changed every day and only if someone pees outside the box is there an odor and that rarely happens.
