I have a thing about vegetables that were cooked more than minutes before serving, plus they would most probably be canned or frozen - not fresh.

Yes we did one year. I don't remember the circumstances of why but it was easy and the girls made extra sides.

Yes I did a couple of times when I lived in Miami. I think I picked it up at the grocery store. I had to warm up the turkey but it was nice and at the time I was alone butdidn't want to do the whole thing for just me.
I think it was around$39 at that time You might want to go ahead and try it ahead of time losts of leftovers too.

One year, I went to the grocery store around noon to pick up the things I needed to make a dinner for a party at 6 p.m. that night. The deli was just bringing out a whole roasted turkey. I dumped my shopping list and bought that turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy and cranberry sauce. It was easy enough to steam a few vegetables and I had a whole dinner with MUCH less effort than I had planned. It tasted great!

No, I never have and don't really think I would. I don't like most people's turkey so know I would not like the way they would fix it. Of course the pies would not be as good as home made nor the rolls.

No, but my dad does this every year. It's too much for him to cook a big meal and he's been doing it for years now. Only him and my two brothers there.

I like cooking Thanksgiving dinner even if it's just for the two of us. I don't think I could or would buy one and definitely wouldn't go to a restaurant.

For several years, back when DS and GS were together for Thanksgiving, I'd make reservations at The Wynfrey Hotel for Thanksgiving buffet.

The WORKS; pianist at the grand piano, ice sculptures, mimosa fountain, Santa Claus walking around, and everything you can imagine to eat. Wasn't cheap, but it was something the three of us enjoyed, at that time. Plus dressup time.

I was thinking of doing that this year, but I would rather cook myself. Not sure time will allow that, but I'm like Monica about the veggies--I'll make my own fresh. Also might pick out a better roll than the white gummy ones they probably give you.

I think it is a wonderful thing to have the opportunity to purchase most of the dinner already prepared. It's a huge amount of work, and some people just aren't up to it.

I would get a turkey and maybe some of the side salads or sweet potatoes but I would have to do my own dressing, pies and rolls.

Our family opted to go to a restaurant for Thanksgiving one year. At the time we all thought it a good idea and something "different". The food was good, the atmosphere was not. We pretended to enjoy the experience but it hasn't happened since.

As far as buying a complete holiday dinner to bring home - yes, I have considered it even though I do like to cook. I would have to know exactly what I was getting and the quality of the catered meal first. Adding my own prepared veggies would also be something I'd consider.

My DD has bought their Thanksgiving dinner at Marie Calendars. They pick it up the day before, store it in the extra refrigerator in the garage, and then they heat it up for an hour or so before serving. Her FIL pays for it, and with two tots under foot, it is how she and they prefer to do it. When her MIL cooks at her home, she does so weeks ahead of time and freezes everything, then sets it out buffet style so they can make a plate to watch the games in front of the tv, so the restaurant version is fresher.

I always make the meal from scratch, set a formal table (though we are not), and my sister brings the dessert, salad and veggies. It works out quite well, especially the need to find enough refrigerator space as we bring in our supplies.

I did one year and it was wonderful. I had the whole shebang - turkey, stuffing, potatoes, gravy, sides....can't remember what else. It was a busy and stressful time for me and I just couldn't think of planning and executing the dinner, so I ordered it. It was great and I'd do it again in a second if circumstances were the same.

In addition to not having to cook and time everything, the extra time I had with my guests rather than stressing in the kitchen was a wonderful gift. I highly recommend it.

Absolutely, wouldn't give it a second thought. We went to the country club the year my mom died, they had a dinner with leftovers dinner!!! It worked out well but we've not gone back for it again simply because I am too lazy to get dressed to go! LOL!!!

We did once or twice years ago. It wasn't bad. Better than most restaurants "holiday" menus.

What was really missed was my stuffing. Yes I said stuffing, dressing is well just dressing. LOL

When schedules don't allow the family to get together on holidays DH and I often eat out. We just stay away from the turkey and order other things. Better food that way in our opinion.

I would do a quickie version if I ever hosted T-Day dinner, but my sister loves hosting it, so I never do.

We did go to a restaurant one year for T-Day and it was fantastic, great food, tons of different desserts, the staff was great, lots of smiles...and it was very easy on everyone, no hassle, no fuss, all relaxation and enjoyment of the meal and family around the table. I'd like to do that again.

You know what, if I weren't able to prepare the Thanksgiving meal for my family I would seriously consider buying the turkey already prepared without the stuffing. The sides are easy to do...not a fan of turkey except the following day and then I have hot turkey sandwiches comeplete with stuffing and cranberry and hot home made gravy...,that is the best part of a turkey dinner.

One year a local store sold fully cooked turkey breasts with stuffing in their rotisserie chicken rack. Bought one and it was fabulous-all I had to add were vegetables and desserts. It's just me and DH. Our daughters (age 22 and 23) may eat with us or their boyfriends' families.

We did this one year when we had Thanksgiving day in my daughter's apartment in NYC. Her kitchen was the size of a broom closet I was fine.

Those ads always look so easy and inviting, but I know I wouldn't be happy without all the smells coming from the kitchen. And I wouldn't have the pan drippings to add to the dressing and gravy. If it was just Harry and me, I would consider eating out, though. The restaurant at our club house has an excellent chef and there is a buffet every year.

I don't make my pies anymore, though. I tried Marie Callander's pumpkin pie one year, and that sold me. They're delicious!

Nothing wrong with shortcuts, even if it's doing the whole meal that way. There's good shortcuts and bad shortcuts. Sometimes doctoring up instant stuff is quite good, and sometimes on it's own it's good too. OK, if you're a great cook and do it homemade, yes, it can be better. But... when you cook like my SIL, who takes a spiral sliced ham, bakes it about 3 hours until it's ham jerky, generic instant potatoes with twice the water (no need for milk she figures) with a can of generic gravy (watered down of course) with a bag of frozen corn microwaved so the outside is mush and the inside is still frozen, topped off with the lemon meringue pie which is a can of lemon filling (possibly lemon pudding?) dumped in a frozen pie shell and topped with..... Cool Whip! Yum, yum. And there's always leftovers! Wonder why? In that case I'd hobble on foot to the store and pick up a prepared meal! Or order a pizza.

And don't get me wrong, canned gravy and instant spuds can be OK. But I add some butter to the spuds, not margarine and have found a couple of decent canned gravies.

And I won't even bother making a pecan pie anymore. Aldi has one that's as good as any I've tasted. And for less than $5, you probably can't buy the nuts for that now! But I still want to try the pretzel pie!

To me the holidays aren't a big deal anymore. Lots of family and friends are gone. Not a lonely time or anything, just not the incentive there used to be. It's another day. Yes I like good food but not into the celebratory end of many of the holidays anymroe. Especially the greedy ones!
