Lily316, my sister did the same thing as your dh :(

My 57-yo sister thinks she can do anything, even after back surgery a couple of years ago. She was up on a ladder over her deck made of Trex, thank goodness, to get leaves off her roof. One step onto the roof and either the ladder went out from under her or she just lost her balance. Most fortunately, she "only" badly broke in several places her tibia. Surgery this morning to screw an exterior rod to her bones, ankle to thigh, then permanent surgery when the swelling goes down in a week or so. Friend who was helping her with the leaves was in the front and heard her scream, so at least she wasn't alone at the time. Maybe now she'll realize she's not super woman after all.

I was just up there for our mom's 90th, and now I think I'll need to get on that darned airplane again--how I hate to fly! Luckily her son is going up in a couple of weeks for a visit. Thanks for listening to me vent.

Lily, I do hope your dh is doing better. I suppose his recuperation will be long-ish--can you give us an update?

Some how I thought only men did stupid things...lol. I'm glad your sister ONLY has a broken leg. I have heard horrid stories about leaf blowing on the roof, and many don't end well at all. Head injuries, paralysis or death. I'm glad your sister will just have to endure crutches for awhile and not be permanently disabled. Husband is functioning. At least with his back fracture, he is mobile but in pain. Apparently there is nothing they can do but let it heal. He's on oxycontin. He sees the lung doctor tomorrow and also gets the staple out of his gash. He still doesn't seemed to have "gotten" it. Was going on a step ladder to put up the icicles lights. Shoot me!!.Hope your sister isn't in too much discomfort.

My husband, 2-year old daughter, and I, were sitting behind this guy at a religious meeting, so after the final prayer, I introduced myself and welcomed him. He was with some friends of ours and it turned out that he had just met them the week before. He had been traveling with his wife and small daughter to move to another state, when a drunk driver hit them head on in the desert fog. His truck was totalled. The baby was in a car seat and was fine. His wife suffered many serious injuries and was taken to our local hospital. That's how he came to meet my friend, who had been called when people of our same religion had requested help at the hospital. Well, anyway....he was thin and stressed and trying to figure out what to do. There was no instant connection--no attraction. I invited him to dinner with us, but he declined. As it worked out eventually, the wife was air-lifted to a hospital in the city where her parents lived, where my (DH) was moving. Because of the wreck, the ensuing lawsuit against the drunken woman who had just chalked up her 4th accident while DUI, and both vehicles totalled, DH lost the job transfer to the new state. A few months later, he was back at my meeting. He had to return to fight the legal battle in person, so got a job in my town. His wife, on finding out that she was getting a nice sum as a settlement for her injuries, decided to stay with her parents, keep their daughter, and divorce him. Within another year or so, I found myself divorced about the same time his divorce was finalizing. I moved into a room for rent as a temporary measure while saving to move to California. He was renting another room in the same house. Somehow...some way.....without ANY prior notice of each other in the preceding 2 years, we became friends. A few months later.....we both moved out of the house...and into our own place as husband and wife! One of the things we both thought was funny as we began dating, was finding out that he thought I was nice to show a concern for him but he never gave me another thought. When I take those personality tests, I come down right in the middle of extrovert/introvert, which I think is appropriate. I love time with friends, and I am often the organizer of social outings. But I also love being alone. As an only child, I was home alone often when my parents were at work, so maybe it's just that I got used to it. DH grew up in a big family and he doesn't particularly like being alone (as in being home alone for a weekend, or going to our beach house alone -- which I LOVE). But he is very introverted and getting more so as he ages. Friends who know him well can laugh about the fact that if one of them happens to stop by unannounced, he might barely say hello. But if he knows someone is coming, or we're going out somewhere, he is prepared and will be friendly and is often (esp. after a couple of beers) the life of the party because he is incredibly funny. It makes me crazy at times because he can be very self-absorbed and gets involved in solitary activities that can exclude me and the rest of the family. Fortunately when the kids were little he was more engaged and hands-on so it bothers me less now that the kids are more independent. Our kids are: one nerdy extrovert, one slightly nerdy introvert, and one non-nerdy introvert!

Thank you, I let Marjorie know you are all sending prayers and good thoughts. Heather, I would be a nervous Nellie too. I would rather be put out in a minute. Yes, Shirley I will be there. They moved her surgery up so she will be going in at 11:30 am tomorrow instead of 1:45 pm. Paul is picking me up at 9:00 am and I will most likely stay until visiting hours are over at 8:00 pm It will be a long day but Paul is lending me his Ipod which has some tv shows and movies on it. I am looking forward to watching some Thin Man movies while Marjorie is being operated on and while in recovery. I am not sure how long the surgery will be. I really hope Marjorie doesn't fret too much because it isn't good for her heart and that concerns me. She wanted to make sure a crash cart was standing by. I told her of course it would be. Her heart rate isn't supposed to go over 130 bpm but most often than not it is quite higher than that when she stresses or gets excited over something. Thank you all again. Main Man's oldest Daughter sent this to me. I am as close to her as I am my own Daughter. She is actually more like me than my own Daughter. I treasure my Aunts, Great Aunts, Cousins, Second and Third Cousins, Nieces and Great Nieces. We try to get together for lunch every other month throughout the year. The younger ones call us the Ya Ya Sisters. I am fortunate to return to my Childhood home where many of my Lifetime GF's live. My Mother and my Grandmothers were wonderful friends. Plus I spent yesterday with my BF on the Lake. We laughed our old hineys off playing with her GS in the water. Within the next month I have a Second Cousin who is moving to the country less than 1 mile from my House. I am really excited to have her near. Her Sister has cancer and she isn't doing well. Guess that is one reason we have a steel roof--nothing sticks, even snow most of the time. Also good against hail damage.

Oh gosh! Your sister is a lucky gal! I hope that she is healed soon, that sounds bad. Is her home all on one level?

Lily, you tell hubby that he has had the power of KT's prayers behind him to help him out, but if he doesn't take it easy he's going to have the KT WOMEN after him pretty soon!

Thank you for your good thoughts. It's a one-story house and she tried hard to protect her head and back (surgery a couple of years ago,) so her shin took the brunt. She's very miserable since surgery, with a low pain threshold and a high drug tolerance. My mom is back in the throes of depression over this and is having no luck with the meds for restless legs; she's leaned on dsis for many years now since they live so close to each other. It is hard to be here but I want to go up when she can really use me and will need lots of help. Again, thanks for letting me vent--it just feels good to whine sometimes!

Oh,Lily, what do you do with a man who who still thinks he can do anything??? I cannot believe he would even have considered putting one foot on that ladder. Groan.....
I am glad to see he's on the road to recovery though I'm sure it will take time. If his pain is managed, that's half the battle. Does he have pt right now? Is he good with any exercises he's been given? How are you holding up? Being the caregiver can be so overwhelming. I'll be thinking of you.

It was smart of your sister to protect her head and back if given a split second to react. I hope she feels better very soon. Husband is functioning. He takes pain meds and will go to his lung doctor tomorrow with Xrays he'll have taken earlier. He was given no exercises, ortho docs said there is nothing we can do. I wasn't there when they were. He tells everyone he has done this a 100 times. Remember in 1996 he fell off a ladder trimming a tree and broke both arms. I've told him he's not 25 anymore. Far from it.
