Because the value in a thread are the responses, I think that late replies are OK. That way, when someone does a search, that additional information is available, even if the OP may have moved on.

Lots of other forums here at GW are "dead". As you said, the dates are frightening. Which is why so many people post everything/anything here on the KT, where there is action. On any, it's easy to skip over the silly ones.

Sometimes a subject on the "most recent posts" catches my eye and I might even respond. Then I forget where I saw that forum and I forget to look for it again. LOL

Most of us have our favourites; mine are the KT obviously, the Cooking and Vermicomposting forums and houseplants.

I found GW forum when I was redoing my kitchen a few years ago and stayed.` I still visit the kitchen forum and enjoy the Home Decorating forum and the conversation side of that forum and of course, being here.

I used to go to Hot Topics but it's always the same people following the same script which always deteriorates into name calling. No fun in that. Unfortunately, the things that one can learn get lost in that.

I don't post as often as I used to, but I still check out KT, Kitchens, Home Decorating, Antiques and Smaller Homes. Occasionally visit Home Organization and a few of the garden forums. I think this site is amazing, and a wonderful resource.

wonder if they might pick up if former hgtv posters find their way here? I mention before they cut it, about the decorating ect, here....

I check this forum first, but I love "Organizing the Home," "Small Homes," "Kitchens," "Baths," "Cooking" and "Home Decorating." It's challenging, but I try to glean ideas from some of the mansion-type homes to see if they can translate to my old, small, tired home.

People from the Paint and Window forums have been helpful to me, too!

And that's not even touching the many "gardening" forums.

I check out other forums from time to time...I have a "smaller" home, although to me a 1640 sq ft home with a basement and 3 car garage doesn't seem small....There are beautiful kitchens to look at on the kitchen forum...I look at the marriage forum and am shocked to see the sad cases there....I don't normally post much on the other forums, just the KT which holds my interest more.

Peke, 1640, triple garage a "smaller" home? Wow. Ah, you need the rooms for the pekes! LOL

The kitchen forum is nice, but it's not for the average person. Big bucks being spent there.

I, too, frequent most of those mentioned including sewing and quilting, Don't post often as I don't often have much to add to the conversation. I am curious, always.... so I keep checking different places and other forums. Here is home, tho, and it is interesting to keep track of my long time friends.

I used to be very active in the Garden Junk forum. It used to be such fun. Now, I have no garden whatsoever, and the forum has gotten very very slow.

Jasdip, they claim any home under 2000 sq ft is a "small" home, so I post there every once in a while...No it doesn't seem small to me, our family home when I was growing up was 950 sq ft for the 5 of us.

sigh. I recently discovered the "small home" forum and then immediately ignored it.... it's ridiculous to consider anything up to 2000 sq ft as being a small house. I'd LOVE to have that much space!!!

I answered an old post the other day in the grandparenting forum.
I still find the old posts of value because of google. Plus, new ideas coming in on a (sometimes age old concern) someone might have. Not necessarily answering the original poster.

Several times I have googled something and garden web has come up as a source of information on the subject.
So, that may be why some people reply to old posts.

The other day I stopped in the kitchen forum to get help identifying a piece of granite I'd picked up @ The Restore. But honestly.....I hadn't stopped by there in maybe 10 years....

I did 2 bathroom remodels last year and NEVER stopped by the GW bath forum. I suppose it takes time....never thought to do it....

I started with the Care Givers forum. My mom had Alzheimer's and lived in another state. I am not sure I posted but I would read about others who had those problems. Then I ventured out to the cooking forum and one day the kitchen table. I found these sights all so welcoming. Finally after several years came out of my lurking state. I don't post a whole lot but it is so nice to read about everyone's family. Good times or bad. Everyone has problems of some sort. We are hear to listen and support when we can. Like blfenton, I originally came to GW when I was planning a kitchen remodel. Since it was a fairly comprehensive, major DIY effort I also frequented the electrical forum, the plumbing forum, the appliances forum, and the bath forum (for tile info), as well a as couple of non-GW external forums for plumbing and tile info.

Jasdip is right that there are some astoundingly expensive remodels in the kitchen forum, but there are also are more modest budget remodels and even some low-budget total makeovers. To me the biggest benefit of the kitchen forum is the body of kitchen design knowledge there. Often people will post a design that they paid a professional kitchen designer to devise and ask for comments. The kitchen forum people will critique and tweak the design pointing out issues and concerns and ways in which the design could function better, and sometimes a poster will completely redraw the design, producing something better than the professional kitchen designer came up with.

After "finishing" the kitchen remodel I continued to hang out there to "pay it forward" with the wisdom I had gained, but also started frequenting the cooking forum, and eventually also found the kitchen table.

Edited to add: I've been away for several days for thanksgiving at a relative's place that doesn't have internet, I've missed you guys. :-)

I first found the GW at all when I was looking at getting into vermicomposting. Gleaning information from numerous vermi sites.

I had a breadmaker and wanted some help in getting a better rise out of it. I found the Kitchen Table, and asked that question here. I immediately got help and suggestions. I couldn't believe how quick to respond the members were, and how friendly.

I immediately joined the KT and it's my home-away-from-home.

I first came to GW in the middle of my house remodel. I remember the first forum I visited was Appliances, then Kitchens. I got loads of help from both these, as well as Bathrooms and Home Decorating.

At the same time, i hung out quite a bit in the Grieving forum. Eventually I left there, but went back today and saw that Sylviatexas is still helping many people. I admire her for that.

I've spent time in many of the gardening forums over the years: Roses, Irises, Cottage Gardening, Vegetable Gardening, Peas, Beans & Legumes, Perennials, Annuals, Soil, Pests, you name it. The Vertical Gardening forum is where I learned about bean arches. I love my bean arches!

I go to "Money Saving Tips", "Household Finance" and "Retirement".

They're pretty slow, as well.

But then, with regard to the "Retirement" one ... as we get older, we slow down, ourselves.

Not an excuse that'll work for the other two, though.

Over 15 years ago my "computer daughter" referred me to Garden Web. I was caring for an ill husband and found the Caregivers forum helpful.

I then discovered Kitchen Table and have followed it for years. I also check out the Sewing forum and a few others.

Have posted more often lately.
