I like Garden Party, and then, have to confess to sneaking in on Hot Topics--just as a lurker!

I check the Oklahoma Gardening forum a lot more in the summer than right now. Sometimes, I peek in the cooking forum and ever so often a few others.

But the KT, I am on several times a day.

rhome, One main reason I wanted to have a door to the pantry is to keep it cooler than the rest of the house. The pantry area I have now is right off the arctic entry so it's very cool. I like it that way for pest issues. I know this new pantry won't be as cool but at least cooler than the kitchen. No door is a possibility, though. What about putting some kind of door to the shelving area itself? Maybe a bifold door? Anything to keep it cooler. What do you think? I was looking at your drawings and thought of something... How about I put the microwave over the dishwasher & use that now empty space for my mini control center? I could even put doors there. I could have my calendar on the wall. I could still put cabinets above...the center doesn't have to be huge. What do you think? I was also thinking of moving the cooktop down closer to the sink since I tend to work from left to right. I know it won't be symmetrical but at this point and with such a small area to work with...I think function beats form. Anyway...this will be such a huge improvement on what we have now so I'll be happy! :)

A rectangular trestle table (with slightly rounded, non-pointed corners if you can find it with these), ideally with at least 1 or 2 leaves, will seat more people than a table with legs on the corners. Who will be sitting at the table on a daily basis, and as visitors? If you will be buying a table of reasonably decent quality to keep for the long run, and will have people older than little kids sitting at it, at least 4 chairs would be a minimum, and 6 would be better--if there is some place else in the house where the extras could be used or stored until needed. When my daughter was first married, she bought a table with 4 chairs due to their under 1000 sq' house and kitchen-eating area smaller than yours. When they wanted to entertain, which often was a total of 6 adults, 2 people had to sit on folding chairs and be relatively uncomfortable, although she could have put 2 more "good" chairs into the small space if she'd had them long enough to enjoy the meal and conversation. For years, I had an 8 x 12' dining room with the long side open to the living room. Because a 6 x 10' rug defined the dining space and therefore the location of the table, there was actually about 9' in width. I routinely had 8 people (7' long table including 2 leaves) seated. Crowded? A little, but doable. How busy will the walkway at the "bottom" of the kitchen be--what does it connect? If it's not super busy, could you shift the left wall of cabinets and the island 3 to 6" into the walkway to get more space in the eating area? Anne

We are waiting on new stainless steel fridge, range and microwave. I hope your new fridge is counter-depth. This refrigerator sticking out is not doing you any favors. Also removing the decorative valance above the sink. I'd like to see a curtain to bring in some color and softness ... and a matching /coordinating drape for the sliding glass door. Paint colors for walls? What color is predominant in your closet? Consider that for your walls. Everything you have is neutral colors ... I'd like to see a tile backsplash with some color and personality ... not plain white tile. Anything else we can do to put lipstick on our pig!!!! - Do those soffits contain ducts? Removing them would be a big (but not inexpensive) step. - If you remove the soffits, you could then replace the uppers with something taller. The cabinets you have now look to be in good condition, but the uppers look kinda squatty. Again, not an inexpensive fix. - Painting the cabinets won't be easy because they're oak /they have strong veining. - How about replacing that very basic door we see beyond the kitchen? - Replacing the countertops would go miles and miles towards updating the look. i think you need color. Agree. You have wood and white, and that gray mat doesn't count as "color". Try black Thonet chairs with cane seats. I don't know what kind of chairs those are, and I'm not a big fan of cane seats, but I think you need some non-basic chairs. I like the chairs you have now -- I have their first cousin -- but everything you have is so simple, you need something with a bit more personality. I'd pick a color and thread it through -- rug, chair seats, maybe a teapot or other visible accessory. Art on the wall from which the photos are taken? Agree with all of the above.

I figured. I think if you could even spare a foot, it might open up some options. We have a long tv wall too. It helped to get a long low console under the tv… still haven’t found the right thing for the right side of the tv myself. Would you consider a gallery picture wall? There might be a way to find a calm, unbusy collection of pictures…. And it could even dip below you table or a chair a bit…Here’s a little googled example. You could cut some shapes/sizes of art out of paper or cardboard and stick them on the wall… stand back and take a pic. See if it’s your cup of tea.

I've read some of the other ones out of curiosity, such as the cleaning, frugal, kitchen, but I don't participate.

I like "Decorating" and "KItchen remodeling", have traded lots of plants and given away free ones on that forum.....but I'm no longer a regular on any of those any more....

I'll slip over to anywhere from the 'most recent' list on the side. Was quite surprised to find 'home decor' so far off topic!! Nice variety of discussions. Other forums are relevent to what you want to post, but seem to have little activity(?) So most people shove it into KT. Other forums have good topics, but most won't take the time to look for them.

Mostly Readers Paradise now, but do go to the hosta forum and to Garden Junk now and then. I was quite involved with the Winter sowing forum at one time, but sort of quit that just for now. (I should get back into the latter, with all the winter we are having.)

I'm a regular in many of the gardening forums, but am most active in the Plant Clinic (Pests and Diseases). I love playing plant detective.

I cruise Hot Topics once in awhile a lot during elections;) I can not read 50- 75 post on a subject. They do bring up interesting subjects and they all seem well versed in those subjects, not match for little ole me.

I am on FB lots, several fun pages there.

On GardenWeb, I like Hot Topics and anything to do with real estate, including buying and selling, building, remodeling, appliances, etc. I've gotten great advice from various tradesmen for household and auto problems. I'm frequently on TripAdvisor's Hawaii forums.
