Looking for crochet scarf/shoulder wrap pattern

Or even guidelines... Although this is something I could probably do without a pattern, I would kind of like some sort of guideline to follow.

I was at a craft show over the weekend and someone there had something, that when folded in half (it was like a long tube), looked like a long scarf. However, in the middle, the two 'halves' were split on one side so that what you actually had was two sleeves with a flat section in the middle that (when opened up) fit across the shoulders. Does that make sense? I've been looking online but haven't seen anything similar yet.

If you kint here are instructions.

You will have to scroll down to see the directions for making the sleeves/scarf, just don't attach to the tube body of the sweater.

I am a crocheter - did some knitting but never took the time to perfect it. Crocheting seems to go faster but uses more yarn. I rather spend money on the yarn and finish sooner! You could use a very simple stitch I am currently using the Sweet Stripes for a baby blanket so I guess it depends on the colors you selected if it is too babyish. If you bought the Splash - blue/green combo I think you are fine. I think the blue/white should be OK but the others signal "baby" to me (maybe others think differently). Another option is using Homespun from LionBrand since it is very soft yarn and a mixture of colors to add some richness to the scarf. They have some patterns for "short" scarves using only one skien and a few others also. Check their site and they also have instructions posted on how to knit/crochet. There is one major drawback for a new knitter/crocheter in using either sweet stripes or homespun - they are a curly/wavy type of yarn and it is harder to distinguish where the stitch actually is. I think a smooth yarn is easier for a beginner and would suggest using a sport weight if you want a light, softer scarf. A solid color is easier to work with for a beginner but the Bernat Softee Baby in Baby Denim Marls has just a hint of color so it is easy enough to work with. I like the His Jeans Ombre but even ombres are harder for beginners. Guess it really depends on whether you have a live resource to help you if you get stuck. Keep the first one simple and then build up your skills.

Moni, could you be more specific? Everything I have seen that is in the "ballerina sweater" category is either a pullover sweater with a ballet neckline, or a sweater with ballerinas stitched on it. I've never seen a wrap sweater called a ballerina sweater.

Okay, that sweater is SOOO cute! Wish I had the patience to learn to knit. I can crochet like crazy but have not mastered the two-handed knitting.

I think you are looking for a SHRUG I did a google and there are loads of free patterns out there and they look esy

Yep, you want a shrug pattern. I don't have one for crochet, only for a knit one.

Try crocheting a piece wide enough to go around your hand and wrist, (you will sew this part closed later), then widen it until it's as wide as you want for the shoulder part, and do this wide until its almost as wide as you need it, then start decreasing it to match the other end. Sew the cuffs closed, and enjoy.

Thanks everyone! Yes, I think a shrug is what I'm looking for, although I haven't yet spotted one like the one at the craft show. When it wasn't being worn, it looked just like a scarf.

The scarf would have been crocheted as a long rectangle - the length would be equal to the length of a person's arms, if they were standing with arms stretched out to each side and then a measurement taken from left wrist to right wrist (including the width of the back). Then the rectangle would have been folded and joined together lengthwise, except for the section across the shoulders, which would have been left open.
