I guess this isn't a gadget, but it is the oldest thing I have in my kitchen. I have a cookie jar that was a wedding gift to my husband's parents when they were married.

My Grandma's 1847 Rogers Bros.A1 XS Triple serving spoon. I am told it was a wedding present for her. Her oldest child was born in 1898 so I would guess the spoon to be about 110+ years. When I got it, it already had one edge of the bowl well worn away from using it to stir. Grandma was obviously right handed. It is seriously in need of resilvering. DH says it is gross. I love it. It is my go to spoon when hand mixing stiffer batters. Very comfortable to hold and sturdy.

DH's grandmothers teapot that was a wedding gift in 1912. Also have her silver serving spoons from the same time. I have my mother's cast iron skillet that is over 75 years old and it's still in perfect condition.

I have, and use, my grandmothers electric waffle maker. Round in shape, made by Proctor Electric before they became Proctor Silex so at least pre-1960 :)

The round shape is semi-divided into quarters - I'm finding one of the quarters doesn't reach the temperature of the other three and the waffle is beginning to stick there....up to now, it's been make the batter, cook the waffles, no oil, no Pam, no sticking. No washing, just wipe it clean with a towel when cool. I think on its very last legs, I'm going to miss it.

I have my grandmother's very old, and black, bread tins. Still use them. I also have, and use, my MIL's meat grinder, which was old when I married into the family 64 years ago, as well as her wooden slicer.

I have the Sunbeam Mixmaster mixer that my father gave my mother on their first wedding anniversary - in 1947. Still works! I also have cast iron skillets that are really old, but I don't know how old.

Not a kitchen gadget, but we have the cast iron washtub that was used by DH's great-great-grandmother!

An indian toothpick holder of my mother's that dates back in the 30's. Was used as a matchstick holder then. Sits in the middle of my stove by the spoon rest.

Let's see. I have a few pieces of a boxed set of kitchen utencils I bought when I set up my first apartment in the early '60's and a few pieces of the replacement knives I bought when first married. Needless to say the knives in the original set were not all that great. I bought them at Woolworth. I still use the paring knife and the tomato knife from the second set. No old electrical appliances survived. They seem to burn out and need replacing more frequently. I also have a set of dishes I bought for my mother in the early '70's and several pieces of crystal given to her over the years. One or two were gifts from my sister but she didn't want them when mother died.

Sounds like I'm a hoarder. lol. Actually I purge quite frequently but the old items don't seem to make the cut. I can always remember the circumstances surrounding the acquisition and will throw away newer items with no history first. It just hurts my heart to throw away something connected to a memory.

I am probably the oldest thing in my kitchen. However I do have my Grandma's aluminum oven canner. It comes apart in different pieces and has two large flat pans, the top and the bottom that can be used for baking. I remember my Grandma using the pans to bake her yeast rolls on. I don't use it for canning as oven canning isn't safe but sometimes use the pans. I imagine the canner may be around 80 years old. I have not looked it up.

Until a few years back I often used my mother's Flex-Steel pressure cooker. Now I'm not sure it won't 'blow' on me!

I 'use' an antique wooden bowl as a centerpiece on my kitchen table. I think it is maple, hollowed out of a single piece of wood. I don't know how old it is. Somewhere along the line someone drilled three holes in the curved bottom and added some wood 'pegs legs' so that the bowl can stand and not roll around. I'm guessing it was meant to be held in the lap, perhaps to kneed bread dough.

I have my mom's baby cup from c.1905 -- cheap silver plate with a bas relief bear flanked by "Teddy" and "Bear", nicely dented and tooth-marked. LOL

I don't know if my g-grandmother brought her teapot from Scotland. It's the standard brown glazed pot you'd see in any UK kitchen (or 'Downstairs') at teatime.

My oldest working gadget is the *aqua* hand-held Kitchen Aid mixer I received as a bride in the early 1960's. One beater is dented from the bride's stupid attempt to add hardened brown sugar to a cookie recipe.

I have a old glass reamer than was my grandmothers.. I'm guessing it was from the 40's? I also have a green handled ice cream scoop (bought at an antique mall). I collect old teacups/mugs too.. not sure which is the oldest, but I have a ruby flash cup dated 1907.

I have my Mom's white enamel cake pan. It's not quite a 9x13" but close to that. Some of the white is chipped away and is a bit dented but I'm using it right now for the turkey. It has to be from the 40's too, I don't remember not ever seeing it.

Today is our Thanksgiving celebration. Even as I type, I'm supposed to be in the kitchen mixing up the dressing.

It's my Grandmother's dressing recipe and it's being tossed about in my Grandma's 1930s-era aluminum mixing bowl.

It's large; it's ancient; it's bent and dented and probably past using, but every year, for as long as I draw breath, it will come down from the top shelf to be used for the dressing.

When I use this bowl I'm 10 years old again, in Grandma's big, old kitchen. I'm standing at the little baking table, mixing the dressing for the very first time "all by myself"!

I also have her graters, three flat graters of different sizes, that are older than the bowl.

A knife set that my father's mother was given on her wedding day. They were a poor family, but this was a nice set for them. I can't remember when they married, I will have to look it up, but it was before 1920.

I have my Grandpa's rolling pin. He was born in 1884,
so I would imagine it's around 100yrs old.

Here are just a few of the items we use daily,,,the real antique hand-me-downs are tucked away...LOL

The first three items are hand made and have been handed down through 3 or 4 generations..

Now don't anybody tell Jan these are antiques or she will want to go waste money to buy new ones...

Lazypup, I have that same meat grinder, also came from my grandmother. I haven't used it for years, finding the food processor no more difficult to use or clean, but I wouldn't get rid of it for any amount of money :)

I ground a lot of razor clams with that grinder when first married!

Gosh! I can't spell knead, and the pressure cookers are Flex-SEAL. They were newfangled at the end of WWII.

Lazypup -- I wish I had my mom's meat grinder. I don't know where I could clamp it though, in this house. Your carving set reminded me that I have a meat fork with a wooden handle that was my grandmother's -- also a 1/4 cup scoop with a green and cream painted wood handle. The scoop says "Made In United States of America". I bet there were other size scoops with different colored handles.

I have an eggbeater that was my Grandma's-it has a wooden handle and two rusty but useable egg beater things. i use it often and hand wash.

One of my most treasured things. When I was in 4th grade my father, was for a time was a Mr. Mom. (stay at home dad) was my room mother.On Valentines day he was in charge of refreshments for my classroom. He went looking for a large heart shaped cookie cutter.. he was unable to find one that satisfied him, so he took it upon himself to make one. He whittled a heart shape from wood, then attatched metal to the outside, I believe it is metal roof flashing, then attatched a cupboard handle. The heart is about 4 inches across the widest part.. It is kind of crude, but works well.. and brings back a treasured memory.

I have this neat knife... with two handles, and a curved blade. My mom used it to cut up onions, or herbs. Unfortunately it is in storage and I can not post a picture of it.

My gram's pastry cutter and egg separator. And her bowls. I too have an ancient egg beater that is used fairly often.

I have my mom's hand potato masher. She married in 1935, so I am guessing it dates to then. I also have an old kitchen spoon that had been in my BILs home that had been silver plated, but it is badly worn away. It makes a great cooking spoon.

Jan says this was her Mothers knife. Mother said it originally went with a large wooden bowl, but the kids broke the bowl using it for a snow sled....(Some things never change....LOL)

The sauerkraut cutters I've seen look just like the one I have that my FIL made. I have his crock too, but have never used either. I have an 1890, "Barkenwald Butcher Company" from Portland, OR, 4' X 4 X 4', solid maple butcher block. I use it every day for something. My best use, when we have people over, it seems they always grab a kitchen/dining chair and gather around it. Some idiot will hold their drink up, asking if I have a coaster. "Good grief, set it down. I'm sure thousands of chickens, cows, goats, pigs and God only knows what else have been there. A drink ring won't hurt it." The part that ticks me off is when they set their drink on my great grandma's doiley (under something stunning), put there when I'm not flingin' food (company). I offer a coaster.

Not that I use it often but in my iron collection I have a cast iron, rectangular thingie with v-shaped divits in it, with a matching divit roller on top. Open up the bottom thingie and it has a brick in it (hard to explain) that the original Washington generation used to heat the brick and roll their sleeves and kerchiefs in it to make their ruffles.

I have so much "old" stuff that I tell my friends it's okay if you write your name in the dust....just don't date it. The dust comes with the antiques, eh?

When we remodeled our kitchen four years ago DH told me to toss nearly everything. So pretty much everything in our kitchen is new.

So the oldest thing would be the cookbook my mother gave me for a wedding present back in 1973.

I have a very old pottery dish that came out of my great grandparents chicken coop! It has a chip in it and a hairline crack. I keep it sitting next to my Keurig. I use it to toss in the used k-cups.

Jodi and Jasdip -- I'll see your Better Homes and Garders cookbooks and raise you one "Betty Crocker's Dinner For Two", c. 1958, first edition, fifth printing. It's pretty basic, but without an index listing under "W" for "Water, How to Boil".

Oh! I forgot the cookbook. I have a Better Homes & Gardens 1962 plaid cover edition. It's being held together with duct tape and sugary spills. Most of the index tabs are gone so finding the cooking section you want is an adventure. It's still (imo) the best goto for basic cooking instructions and measurements.

I also have a butcher block but have no idea the age. I'ts obviously been used in an actual butcher shop or someone took an ax to it at some time in the past. My son gave it to me after having most of the top damage removed. It still has ax marks on one side with a small chunk into the top. It makes a great landing place for taking hot pots off the stove on one side and picking up on the sink side. It sits in the middle of the room between them.

Hmmm ChiSue. You got me by 2 years. My oldest cookbooks is a 1960 Hardcover "How America Eats" . The interesting thing is that it was 12 years in the making. The author started it in 1948....so dos that make me a winner??
