It's not ornaments, but I have been sewing... 2 photos...

I'm in a swap over at Flickr, it's for a mini-quilt, about 12" square, and the theme was "house". Well, I couldn't do a traditional house, you know me. I had to go more whimsical and since my partner likes whimsy and animals, I added hedgehogs and manatees, as it seemed fitting.

This is the front, the back isn't anything special, just a print fabric with a label.

And this is the front with the door opened. It's held shut with magnets. I still want to make a little banner/bunting thing that will read "go fly a kite" to string along the top of the castle, under that hedgie. I'll do that today and then I'll mail this off on Monday.

It was fun to make, I think she'll like it. It took me about a week to finish, there was a lot of sketching and planning that went into this.

I tortured this moso boo. Started as seedling and left it and 100 other siblings out in hot sun in one inch by one inch 1020 starter sets on my driveway all last year. Got drenched and dried all summer and only grew to two inches. Only 30 survived. Then brought inside house and baked in boiler room for most of winter till only about ten were alive. Then planted out in middle of winter to dog run. Were all top growth died back. Only one survived. Then my dog peed on it. This in my effort to make a new master race of moso bamboos. I deep dug this 10 foot circle and mixed in lots of leaf mulch, grass clipping. It has since been planted with P. Vivax "springhill" in the center. The rest around it is a tropicalesque garden with various aroids, bananas, callas, etc. I had to remove eight wheelbarrows of dirt after I was done digging I fluffed it up so much and added so much organics. Don't blame me for the horsy mailbox. That's my mother-in-laws doing. I love my wife so I had to put it up. Here's some of the plants I started from seed and the tropicalesque plants I'm putting in: I put in six laburnums last summer along the driveway and they are flowering: The Verbascum "Banana Custard" I planted last year are flowering: Not your usual verbascums the flowers are 2" across and as of today the plants are ten feet tall. My patch of 39 A. Sikokianums below are doing good. I just planted 6000 seeds I got from them in a 12 by 8 foot bed a week ago. Next I am having 3 trees chopped down so I can put in a vegi garden. I had to sell my lake and Herptile Preserve because it got to be too much for me.

Check out this Dollar Tree Link. I think if you used something symmetrical like the angel, tree, or bell, you could put a ribbon or piece of embroidery thread in the middle and glue the backs together. You could also go to the craft stores and look in the wooden cut outs for shaped cutouts to paint or decopauge and glue together. You can go as glamourous or cheesy as you want with it. Have fun! Jerzee, I really thought about what you posted. I asked myself if I honestly was just jealous of her success. I don't think I'm jealous of her success per se, but rather her success made me question my own abilities. She's a top producer at our office, and I'm lucky to have her as a partner; she's helped me immensely and throws lots of leads and deals my way. I just got home after that day and found myself thinking, "What is WRONG with me?" Like PaigeCT, I was thinking "I *should have* done this-or-that. A "proficient" individual would have done fill_in_the_blank..." I believe that's the root of the whole thing. Her success juxtaposed with my horribly bad open house made me question my own abilities, and made me think that I'd made a mistake, I'd never get it right, I'd screwed everything up, etc. While I know those aren't rational, that's where I was. (Poor DH, when I got home and he asked me how it went, I screamed at him, burst into tears and ran back to the bedroom, leaving him standing there with a cookie crumb dangling from his lips and a bewildered and hurt look on his face.) Fact is, when I'm up, I'm pretty much unstoppable. I don't care what the *facts* are, I can get stuff done. But when my confidence is shaken and I don't believe in myself, the world becomes a very scary place! I just need to chalk that day up for what it was; a learning experience. I need to put on my *big girl pants* and go find someone else to help! (Can you tell I'm beginning to become annoyed with myself? I don't have too much tolerance for being down....) Paige, THANK YOU for sharing your own experience. I really emphasizes "That's how life is", and it wasn't just me!! And Susanfnp, I have to say that I've never thought of my "act now---question later" attributes as being GOOD things. I've always considered my impetuous behaviors to be a bad thing, and so I consequently feel guilty about 99% of the time. You really made me realize that I need to have a different perspective! Almost EVERYTHING I do is done without hesitation, and I honestly never looked at that as being a good quality. Just last week, I got the wild hair to remodel a small powder room. One minute I was telling DH that we needed to pick out tile, and then next minute I had the crowbar in my hand removing the old stuff. I felt TOTALLY guilty for 3 days, as I felt like I was "putting everyone out" and not being a good wife, mother, broker, etc. But you know what? That powder room is finished. In 3 days. Why didn't I see that as a good thing before? Wow. What a catharsis. Nothing like seeing your own mess scrawled in black and white on the WWW for a little introspection!! Honestly, thank you. I really do have a different (and much healthier) perspective. And Pecan, I would NEVER turn down your pound cake. It's to die for!

Thanks, everybody, I'm glad you like them. I mostly made them while sitting on the sofa at night, very little time on the sewing machine. And I had to fray-check the snot out of those ears to keep them from coming apart when sliding onto the chenille stems. Using my tiny paper punch worked great for making little holes. Kat, that's a great idea but I think I'll have to use one of those little miniature candy bars as a kiss is too round, but a little flat one will fit perfectly, I think. It'll give this little bag some weight and make them feel better. The scented q-tip is a great idea, too, Terri-I'll suggest that to them and they can do their own. Maybe a nice pine scent! Pine-sol! lolol Maybe slide it into a little tube so it doesn't make a stain on the wool....

Thank you all so much, such lovely compliments. :) I'm getting the big head! And I'd like to live there, too. I wonder what their dungeon looks like?

Here's the label- my personal info is on the flip side of this, upside down so you can read it when you flip it up.

maire_cate- I got the stone fabric for the main castle at a local(50 miles away) shop but I know that Maricopa Quilt Company has it, also. What I generally do is go to the link below, type in my search words (in this case "landscape rock") and hit thumbnails. It came up with 148 items in 30 something shops, then I looked at the thumbnails until I found something I liked. I couldn't believe I actually found one that would work, though, without having to order it. There were a couple online I liked better, but time was of the essence so I got this. The fabric for the distant village is actually a dull blue floral.

My partner in this swap does wonderful work and always sends her partners lovely things, so I felt really good about putting that much time into this. It's fun to make things for people when you know they'll really appreciate it and reciprocate. Hers is already on the way to me, I'll show it to you when I've gotten it.

Linda, that's the first time I've done my binding like that, I just couldn't find anything that looked right all the way around. :)

That is precious! As a quilter, I can appreciate how much work went into creating this masterpiece. The binding really is great, and your "thread painting" is terrific. I would definitely enter this in a contest.

Saying that it is one of the cutest things I've seen simply won't do it justice! That is truly a work of art and I agree that you should enter it in a contest for more people to enjoy. No, Zee- you have to order and pay each shop individually. Jot some notes about which shops have what and see if any of them overlap, that's the only way to save on shipping. Also, have you looked at equilter.com and craftconn.com? Both have LOTS of fabrics. I didn't know you collected peace signs and zebras. Ever find a zebra with peace signs on it? :)

The detail, colours and whimsy are just fantastic. It's so bright and cheerful, looks like a fun place to me. I love that you added the animals......and unusual ones at that.

No, pretty sure my partner doesn't come here, she's either busy sewing or taking care of her elderly mom and I think I would recognize her if she was a buddy here. She works hard at that so I'm happy to send her something fun and lighthearted.

Judy does what I've always done when seeing your creations Flamey. I have to come back or look them over time and again to see all of the tiniest of details you add. I remember dissecting Nectarine and her paraphernalia when I had her just to see the terrific handy work and how your talented and creative mind works. :)

That is just beautiful!!! I would love to try something like that...someday. Right now I seem to be all about baby blankets! LOL Between Jackson and all the kids'/family friends having babies. Someday I will get into something like this........after the gazillion other things I want to make! lol

Minnie, the door knob shows in the first photo, it's metal, kind of heavy and from the miniature dept of Hobby Lobby, I stitched it on thru the little nail holes.
