Do you believe in messages?

Today we bury my mom. She died Thanksgiving night, after a lovely day spent with family and friends. A shock to us, but not totally unexpected. She was tired of the struggle of life, had been missing my dad for the past 25 years, and all she wanted was to join him.

This morning, when I got up, I glanced out one of my windows and saw 2 absolutely beautiful clouds--the color of good opals (one of her favorite stones). When I looked again, there was a distinct face in each cloud, they were drifting along, side by side (as mom and dad always were in life). Overwhelmed, I closed my eyes for a second, when I opened them, the faces were gone, the clouds were still moving along together, but becoming less defined. Just seconds later a song I haven't heard in years came on the radio--Tie a Yellow Ribbon. Remember the first line of that one? "I'm comin' home, I've done my time"....

So nice to know that mom and dad are together again, at last, for all time.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. Yes, I do believe in messages and I think you just experienced two. I also had a vision when my brother died and it made me feel so relaxed and comforted. (((azzalea)))

I will be thinking of you and your family today. Your vision of the faces in the clouds is comforting and I'm sure it's a message from your parents. How wonderful that your family had this Thanksgiving to share.

I've only had one very negative experience that scared the crap out of me. When I was a teenager, my friends and I were interested in a "darker" subculture and used to hang out in cemeteries and things like that. One night, we were at my house playing with the Ouija board. I know better now, and I won't touch them, but when you're 16 you don't really consider the consequences. We didn't really experience anything during the game because we were laughing and having fun with it. But later that night, after my friends left, I went to bed and woke up to a visitor at the foot of my bed. My room was dark, but this thing was the complete absence of light. It was about 7 feet tall, solid and black as sin. Just standing there at the foot of my bed staring at me. My two cats were sleeping on my bed and they both jumped up, hissing and ran for the closed door and clawed desperately at it trying to get out. I sat straight up and screamed, and at that moment it sort of dissolved into glitter and then shot under my bed. Upon further reflection, I think I invited something very negative into my house and I was relieved to move out soon after. To counter that, after my mom died, I had a few pleasant experiences. My mom wore the same perfume her entire life so I immediately associate it with her. I also collect perfumes and she knows I have a huge collection. A few weeks after she died, I noticed a small bottle of her perfume on the floor so I absently put it on a dresser in the guest room. The next day, I went in there and the perfume was on the floor again. I didn't think much of it assuming the cats had knocked it down so I put it back up, and then the next day, it was on the floor again. I thought this was really strange, so then I put it back up, right in the middle so it couldn't accidentally fall off and the cats couldn't easily knock it off, and put a bottle of my perfume right next to it. And then the next day, I come into the room and both bottles are on the floor. Now, it could have been the cats but I doubt it. Just something fun and it made me smile. Another really strange thing that happened was a few months ago, I really wanted to relocate from Boston to California. But it meant leaving a good job, leaving my apartment and leaving my friends, and I was really struggling with whether it was the right move for me or not. And I landed an interview with a company out in California, and while I was doing some internet research on the company, I Googled the company name and one of the people who works there and the 3rd result that popped up was my mom's name, which is pretty unique and not at all related to any of the search terms. I just thought it was really cool and I interpreted it as a sign. After that, everything fell in place. And now I'm here in California. :)

Do you believe in God?
Q

I'm with you Terriks! The OP asked if I believe in God. Well, not in a Biblical God. I do not belong to a church, because I feel that too much weight is given to the writings in a book-be it the Bible, the Torah, the Quoran or any other scriptural writings. And when it's down in writing, it's taken as the law by those who follow it. But I always feel like that law needs some rules to define the intent, and those laws definitely are open to interpretation. Basically, I believe in a spiritual presence. If I were to describe my spirtual beliefs, I'd lean toward Pagan and the worship of Mother Earth. My 'God' is whatever spiritual being(s) that bring me comfort when I'm low or lost. I say a prayer to 'God' but it's not an entity-more like putting my fears, wishes, blessings out to the Universe for the psychic energies to pick up and return as needed. I can say, without a doubt that I do not believe in Jesus Christ. But I won't knock anyone who does! My eldest daughter is an atheist and it does bother me to some extent. She does not believe in an afterlife or a spiritual deity (she refers to the Flying Spaghetti Monster) but I believe with all my heart there is an afterlife. Not Heaven, however, and definitely no Hell. I was raised on the fringes of organized religion. My mother was raised Presbyterian and my fathers family was non-practicing Catholic. We were not pushed in to any particular religion, but my siblings would identify themselves as Christian if asked. I've got no problem singing Hymns or saying the Lords Prayer-to me those bring comfort and that is always good. But on the same token, singing rock songs brings me comfort. I find my soul is refreshed by Nature. Put me by the sea and I am re-energies (those negative ions!) I am utterly entranced by the Cosmos and I believe in evolution. My beliefs do have a science base-but Paganism also has a scientific bent. I won't judge a person on their religion-and I'd ask those who have a different belief than I do to not judge me. I've been told I'll burn in Hell because I don't believe in the Bible. I can't speak of other organized religions, because I live in a very Christian dominated place, so my experiences have been limited by those who've judged me and proclaim to be a Christian. On the other hand, I've known people who proclaim their devotion to Jesus Christ who are the nicest, least judgemental, if somewhat naive in their world views, people I've met.

I had several dreams about Ken, but the last one was when he said he had something to show me and the letter on the floor. After he passed, seems like I could sense that he was near me sometimes. I can't explain it....so I don't try. It just was. In one of the dreams I had about him, I was laying in a hospital bed. I knew that I was dying, People were standing around my bed on both sides. I don't recall that I knew who they were. Ken was at the foot of the bed. He turned and walked out of the room, Then my dream switched and I was walking down my driveway at the bayou. Ken had given me his truck and it was parked alongside the driveway. Between the mirror and the glass on the driver's side door, were three sheets of notebook paper folded in half. It was from Ken. He always wrote on notebook paper in pencil. I started reading it and he was apologizing for leaving the room when I was dying. He said he couldn't bear to watch. Then I woke up. I didn't get to finish reading the letter. He was a crew chief on a B52 bomber when he was in the Air Force. He had read every book available on the Battle of the Little Big Horn, and could talk about that for hours. One time in the library, back when you had to sign a library card to check out a book, I looked at many, many books in the non fiction section, and his name was in them all. He was a voracious reader. I used to read a lot of true crime, but I would lose interest when I got to the court room chapters, so I would give them to him to read and he would tell me about them. But he finally said that he couldn't read any more of them. It was too depressing. When it was time to put his cat down, he couldn't do it, and I had to. So it in my dream it was not unlike him to not be able to stand around and watch me die. He always kept a loaded .45 revolver under his pillow. It wasn't to kill anyone, but himself, if he felt he had to. I knew about it and I never tried to talk him out of it, because I knew he wouldn't but he needed the security of knowing he had that option, I couldn't take that from him. After he died and I called his family and the police and the coroner came, I told them about the .45 under his pillow. They acted like it was a big deal. I don't know why. He was dead....it wasn't like he was going to shoot anyone. His sister, who lived next door came....but none of the rest of his family did. I stayed until they took him away.

Do you believe in UFO's?
Q
Comments (51)
I partially agree with your thoughtful comments, but only partially. I think people in the general field tire of UFO questions from apparently gullible "believers" who are disappointed when the "expert" doesn't share their "beliefs". I know someone who's an astronomer and he's told me that he's lost patience dealing with people who ask him UFO or life on other planets questions. Here's something I heard once - take two boxes. Label one "Things I've learned to be true or untrue" and label the other "Beliefs I have". Write down all of your thoughts (not literally but for the purpose of this) and put them in the appropriate box. Keep everything you know or think in the box it belongs in and don't try to move things from one to the other. When you pull something out to think or talk about, remember what box it came from and expect others may keep that same item in a different box than you do. A fabulous and very interesting example of this concept in practice can be experienced by listening to a captivating 10 episode podcast (recorded during classroom presentations) entitled "The Historical Jesus", by Prof Thomas Sheehan, from Stanford University. Sheenhan explores the historiography (rigorous historical academic investigation and research concerning) Biblical accounts of Jesus and his times. With some coverage of the Old Testament. The unbiased work done in the last 150 years suggests the assumptions carried over the centuries about the source of the material in the Bible and the events described are unsupported. Not unknown, but unsupported because of convincing evidence to the contrary. It's a most interesting tale, he explains the work done, contradictions investigated, and the factual bases for the conclusions. Keep that thought in mind. Now consider that he also describes himself as a devout, practicing Catholic. A product of Catholic secondary and university institutions, up through his PhD, and a longtime professor at Catholic universities. He repeatedly apologizes to those in class, reminding them that his intent is not to criticize or persuade them to drop any religious beliefs they have but rather to inform them of facts that have been unearthed from academic investigations. He says something like - "keep your beliefs, as I do. They need not be proven if they're important to you. The study of history is a matter of scientific investigation. This is a history class, not a religion class. Don't combine the two". Available through the Apple/iTunes source for free. Very interesting and entertaining. PS - later edit to add I think there's need for a third box - things I know nothing about with certainty and don't pretend or assume otherwise

Oh Azzalea, your post brought tears to my eyes, but of happiness. I absolutely believe in messages and know that your mom and dad have sent you one. I'm sorry for your loss and hope that you find peace in your heart.

A few years ago I had a couple of friends that were facing challenges as was I and I had prayed and prayed asking for help and guidance. It was dusk and I walked out to the ponds to check the koi and just find some solace, as I wandered thru the garden I wondered if anyone had heard my prayers and noticed a flock of geese in the distance, then wished they were closer. Just as that thought formed they turned toward me! They flew directly overhead, low enough that I could see their feet even in the waning daylight, and they made not a sound other than the beating of their wings in the night air.....it was a quiet but magical moment. I knew that my prayers had been heard.

HOw comforting for you to get such a message! I am sorry for your loss though.

The message I got after my Dad died was in the form of a bloom on a Bleeding Heart plant. The spring following Dads passing in Dec, my bleeding heart put out 1 blossom, on my parents anniversary. It had never put out one before, and it never did again in the 2 years it lived after that.

Hugs to you and your family.

Yes ... I believe that when someone is truely loved, s/he can receive a message from someone departed. I haven't experienced it myself, but I gain comfort from hearing about those who have.

While I'm sorry for your loss, I'm grateful that you're at peace with it. And that your mother and father have been able to let you know they're together again.

I too am so sorry for the loss of your beloved mother. No, I don't believe in signs or messages. I wish I did. I've had three people pass in the past few years who I know if possible, would have sent me some sort of sign or message. I in no way mean this to discount anyone else's personal beliefs. In this horrible time of sorrow any sense of comfort is wonderful. I wish you and your family peace and love.

Azzalea, I'm so sorry your mom is gone. Even though she is finally at peace, you will miss her so much. It's good you had a wonderful Thanksgiving together.

I had a similar experience with my mother and clouds. She had breast cancer, and we saw a very unusual V-shaped cloud formation. In the end, she was Victorious over the cancer. She died later of other causes, but I've always remembered that V in the sky.

My sincere and hearfelt thanks to each and everyone of you.

Today was, of course, difficult, but beautiful as well. So many caring people visited, so many kind words were said. The service was simple but just perfect. The long ride to the cemetary was made easier by the fact that we hired limos--no one had to drive, and there were a couple of families in each car, all reminiscing and celebrating my mom's life with the old stories. Then we all got together for lunch at one of mom's very favorite restaurants, and were attended to by a waitress who knew her well, and was in tears herself yesterday when I went in to make the arrangements.

And I do know that mom is happy to be back with the love of her life--she and my dad were one of those rare couples whose souls matched and meshed and were meant to be together for all time.

(((Azzalea))) I am sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. You have my heartfelt sympathy.

I do believe in messages and signs and even dreams. When my Mom and I would go for walks ever since I was a child she would look down at the sidewalk or street we were walking on and said "I'm going to find a dime today" and she usually always did. She told me when she found a dime she knew someone was thinking about her. Years later she said that when she is gone to look for dimes and that would be her thinking of me.

LOL I put that thought away until after my Mom died. Almost everytime I went out for a walk or to the A&P after my Mom died I would find a dime. Just this summer I was at my neighbours house and I went out the back door with some drinks for us. I went back in to get ice and when I came back out there was a dime on the stoop which wasn't there when I came into the house a few minutes before and nobody came into or out of the house after me. This was on the anniversary of my Mom's death! I find dimes from my Mom all the time and when I do I know she is thinking of me. I put the first dime I found after she died on top of her urn that sits on the mantle.

I smell perfume all the time too - at the strangest times. LOL Once my sister called me up just as I was calling her to tell her about the perfume I was smelling. She said she was experiencing the same thing. The scent was Joy, which my Grandma wore all the time. The only person I ever knew who wore that scent was my Grandma McClelland.

I am glad you received your message.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss, azzalea.

In 1949, a young lady from Toronto who was touring the area on the Prairies in the summer visiting isolated children who took Sunday School lessons by radio throughout the year was helping at a summmer camp that some of us young student ministers had organized.

It was the first one in the area, and we young student ministers, who knew very little about how to run a camp, had bitten off about as much as we could chew.

Anyway, at the end of the week, after the campers had gone home, we slept late, then went out for a boat ride on the quiet lake.

She told how her mother and she had fretted over her father's safety when he was in World War II, from 1939 to 1945.

She said that one morning her mother came downstairs for breakfast and rather serenely announced that her father would not be coming home.

He had come, rather vividly, to the foot of her bed during the night to tell her, "Good-bye".

A few days later came the message either that he was missing or killed in action.

My mother was dying of Alzheimer's and she was in her final days. Whenever I would visit her when she was well, I would go to Taco Bell. I hadn't been there in years. I had a rental car and was in a unfamiliar suburb. We were waiting for about a week for her body to give out and I was getting very upset. I told my sister, "I just need to get out for a while". I drove around and saw a Taco Bell and went in to eat. When I returned she has passed away while I was at Taco Bell.
She had been a hostess at a french bistro for many years call Fon De La Tour. I used to call her all the time and she would answer the phone, "Fon De La Tour can I help you". Right after she died I went to the phone and called the funeral home to pick up her body. The phone rang and someone answered saying, "Fon De La Tour can I help you". The funeral home and the restaurant had the same number except for one diget. It was really her speaking from the other side to me and saying goodbye.

I'm so sorry that you are without you Mom now... but I'm glad that she let you know she was okay.

I've had "signs" happen to me also, but honestly... I think the moment that stands out the most is the time that I was EXTREMELY down... I mean not being able to function kinda down, ya know? I prayed and I prayed for God to just help me and comfort me, then, one day during a prayer.... I remember this feeling... this unbelievable feeling of peace that just kinda "covered" me! I cried and cried, but felt soooooo much better! ... I felt loved and taken care of. I had NEVER felt that way before... it was sooo strong... amazing. Just thought I'd share. :o)

I lost my Dear Sister in April of this year 2007.
She loved butterflies and hummingbirds.
I was standing in my yard about a week after she died.
I was thinking strongly of her and at that time a
beautiful butterfly landed on my shoulder.
It stayed there for about a minute and then slowly flittered away.
I know my sister sent that butterfly to let me know she was fine.

I am so sorry about your mom, Azzalea.
Before my son was killed by a falling tree while we were on vacation....one week, exactly.....I had a dream. It was about my Mom and Dad who had both died. They were at our cabin in the mountains and had taken a hike near a place we called The Point. I was there, at The Point, and they were across the ravine. I kept calling them and asking them to come over to where I was so my Mom could meet my son, Scott. She died five months before he was born. I kept calling and calling and finally my Mom said "We can't come over there." And the dream ended.
When Scott died I knew in my heart that my Mom and Dad were there to meet him. It was a very upsetting dream before the accident but comforting after my son's death.

Yes, I do believe in messages. The night my mother died, I saw my first shooting star - EVER. I was sitting near a massive window overlooking the river and something told me to look out the window. I saw this incredible star streak across the sky and I heard the voice say, "the angels have come to take your mother to heaven." Within 10 minutes, my mother had passed on.

As the others have said, I too am sorry for your loss.

Let me just say once more, how much I appreciate all your kind words, and have loved reading your own accounts of the messages you've recieved. Very inspirational and healing to read them.

We are all coping--especially knowing that mom's final chapter was exactly the way she would have wanted it to be. Rough for us, that it was so sudden, but we know she never wanted to end her days in a hospital or nursing home.

Thanks again.
