My 45 minute commute took 3 1/2 hours!

We had our first real snow of the year yesterday and what a nightmare! I thought I was going to snap sitting in traffic for so long. And I didn't see any accidents or encounter any really bad road conditions either. They were out there, not on my route but somehow all of the other garbage still affected my trip. I think the problem wasn't so much the weather as it was drivers not being careful enough thinking that the roads weren't really bad.

The boys were so good though. Nick (5) was so patient and behaved and Daniel (4 months) only started to cry once, about 40 minutes before we got home, and we sang to him and he went right back to sleep. Thank God!

This is not a good sign. I hate driving in bad weather and I can't believe I had to deal with this in November.

Anyone else seeing winter early this year?

We haven't had snow yet in Indianapolis, but I remember the November when Jacob had jus turned 1. It started snowing midday, and by 3pm, they were sending people home. I picked up J at daycare (next to my work). They gave me a bag of crackers for him. What was normally a half hour commute too 5 hours! We didn't even get to our neighborhood because that would have been another hour. DH and I parked at a church down the street and trekked through the snow to our house. I felt like such a pioneer with my baby bundled up walking through two feet of snow. (But I wasn't really a pioneer, because I still had to bring my laptop home and work)

Glad you made it home safely and the kids behaved well.

I haven't had anything like you did, but here in Ohio we're already dealing with school delays/closings due to bad weather. I'm a total chicken when it comes to driving in anything resembling bad roads, so I'm already experiencing a little cabin fever which usually doesn't happen until January.

I'm surprised you were able to maintain your cool with the length of time and the kids with you.

A while ago I got a library book from Readers Digest called Magic Foods. It's all about foods with healthy GL, which raises blood sugar slowly. The recipes focus on good GL foods such as fruit, bran, broccoli, garlic, olive oil, vinegars, sweet potatoes, onions, brown rice etc etc. Last nite we had a sirloin tip in a marinade, which incorporated a lot of the GL foods. It was good, but it might have had a touch too much balsamic, I was tasting a "bite" so I think cut back, would be better. Sliced the steak in think slices with steamed carrots and potatoes. Flank Steak with Balsamic Sauce (Readers Digest Magic Foods) A zesty marinade is transformed into a rich-tasting sauce. Use a ridged grill pan or skillet, or indoor grill. 1/3 cup orange juice 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar 1 tsp worcestershire sauce 1 tsp dried thyme 2 garlic cloves, minced salt and pepper 1 1/2 lb flank steak, trimmed 2 tbsp finely chopped shallot 1 tsp olive oil 2 tsp unsalted butter Whisk the orange juice, balsamic vinegar, worcestershire, thyme, garlic, salt and pepper. Place the steak in a shallow glass dish, pour the marinade over and turn to coat. Cover and refrigerate 2-8 hours, turning several times. Remove steak from marinade and pour marinade into a small saucepan. Add the shallots and set aside. Brush a ridged grill pan or heavy skillet with oil and place over medium-high heat. Add steak and cook 6-7 minutes per side for medium-rare. Transfer to a cutting board and let stand 5 minutes. Bring marinade to a boil over medium-high heat, and cook until reduced to 1/3 cup; 3-5 minutes. Remove from heat, add the butter and whisk until melted. Slice steak thinly across the grain, add any accumulated juices to the sauce, and serve with the steak.

When you folks post these complaints, please make clear which company you're talking about. I had to read all the way down into the comments section to determine the offending company was Mr. Rooter. However, in the body of the complaint, the writer says 'a national chain plumbing company with Rooter in the name.' Now most people are going to assume you meant Roto-Rooter, which is the most recognized name in plumbing and drain service. I work for Roto-Rooter and we received a form email on our web site slamming us for doing you wrong and there was a link to this page. Unfortunately, the person who filled out the form on our site did not leave a real email address so I was unable to let him know that it was not Roto-Rooter who wronged you, it was Mr. Rooter. People often get confused about the two companies and in this case, many reasonable people would read your initial complaint and assume you were talking about Roto-Rooter, a company that has been around almost 75 years and has a great reputation. bella, how I wish I could do something so spontaneous! I do think I'll feel better about my cabinets once the counters are changed. And I can't help to think even though I've never liked the oak, or the counters. None of it bothered me THIS much, when my walls were builder beige. I've even thought about just repainting the walls, and spending the $$ through out the rest of my house on stuff I can take with me :) BUT..dh says NO. He's tired of us talking about the kitchen, and doing nothing. So, it's getting done. NOW :) nicole, that make-over is amazing! I kind of hate people who can pull that kind of thing off, lol. I'm cheap..for sure. But when I do thinks on the cheap, it looks like it. And I have NO creativity. If I can't see it, and copy it..it's not gonna happen. So, yesterday I went shopping right after taking kids to school. I didn't have a chance to call and order. I happened in to Lowes to get some subway tile to double stick tape behind my stove. See how I like it :) And I saw the River Gemstone used on a counter! It's new, and hadn't been there before. And there it was!!! And oh my goodness, was it UGLY!!!! It had soooo much teal/blue in it, that it was up against a painted teal wall. BLECH! I feel I seriously dodged a bullet there. Had I not posted here, and waited for the votes. I probably would have gone that way, because dh liked it best. So did I, when looking at the sample. But, in it's full glory. Bad, bad, bad! Sooo, we're going with the Bella Noche ! I have to wait till 9, when they open to order. But, least I can do so with confidence.Well, sort of. My mother, who isn't the most supportive of my decorating ideas. Told me about 20 times yesterday I should keep my wood edge. Because the squared edge that I have to get (no choice there, because they're not building new decks) looks realy "cheap". Sigh. I can't win. But, that's ok. I'm fine with it. I think. Anyways, thanks again!!!!!!!!!

We've had some snow up here in northeast Michigan, but nothing like some of the other areas are getting it. some of your states are really getting pounded! We want to drive to Wisconsin thru the U.P., but they've been getting lots of snow too. Guess we'll just have to wait on that trip.

Trust me, I was BARELY hanging on. I really wanted to just start banging on the car horn but I knew that not only would that be completely insane and ineffectual, I certainly didn't want to wake up the baby LOL! The worst part was that I knew that last hour's hold up was mainly due to the one red light in town, which causes a delay in any heavier than usual traffic.

I just kept reminding myself how lucky I was that I wasn't one of those involved in an accident and that roads I was driving on weren't bad. I am the biggest WIMP when it comes to driving in bad weather. I reserve vacation time just for the purpose of staying home in questionable weather but the weather people weren't predicting anything like what we got.

Oh yeah, I only started out with about a quarter tank of gas. I made it home with plenty to spare but that caused me additional stress.

Very happy you made it home. I never liked that snowy driving either. Have a nice weekend and enjoy staying inside with your little ones.
