I'm flying back to be with Mom

I have a flight booked in the morning (Thurs) to go back to Nebr to be with Mom during her final days. She was released from the hosp back to the nursing home on Sun and the hospice care givers have started to see her. She's not able to eat or drink (starts choking) and her body is starting to shut down. She only weighs 76 pounds to begin with so there isn't much left of her. I just hope it's peaceful for her. I did get to say I loved her (by phone) on Sun and she said I love you too so I feel good about that, normally she doesn't respond to us talking to her. I wish I didn't have to endure this long flight (UK to Nebr) but I haven't perfected the clicking fingers transporter system yet.

My sister's stepdaughter's (who was murdered) memorial service will be sometime next week. My BIL (her Dad) probably won't be able to attend since it would be a 12 hour drive (he won't fly) and he has emphysema and is on oxygen 24/7

I won't have computer access while at my sisters (she doesn't have one) I'll try to get to the library to let you know what is happening.

Have a safe trip, Diane. I'm so sorry about your Mom and your step-neice. I hope you get to spend some quality time with your mother to say your goodbyes and that she finds peace and doesn't suffer. What a hard, hard thing for you to go thru.

Oh Florence, I missed speeding you Good Luck, but It is done now, and I am sure you had a marvelous flight. In 1970 after an awful era in air traffic we decided we could not fly and were emmigrating to Canada by QEII - at the last moment before the final booking we decided to fly (to get there quicker) :) and we have no regrets - flown mega times since. I find fennel to be most attractive to BST in my yard. I gave 19 eggs and caterpillars to a teacher friend. She said the students were really enjoying watching them grow. She divided the eggs between the second grade teachers. Then, I was able to find another 14 for myself. I collect them ASAP as eggs. I take the fennel sprig with the egg and place those into a deli plastic container. Small holes in the lid, insert the sprig through the hole into the water. I usually recut the bottom of the sprig before I place it in the water. I monitor the water level in these containers. It takes a good 5 days for the eggs to hatch. By the time the eggs hatch, they need some fresh fennel. I use another deli container and place that near them so that they can crawl over to fresh food. If they don't move, I carefully snip the piece of plant that they are on and place that on the fresh fennel.

suckerforroses: Patience is key to stratifying seeds of North American plants of any type. In any case, the Venus Flytrap seed should have sprouted by now. That terrarium kit is the worst idea I have seen in all my decades for North American carnivorous plants in any case. First off, it is not for beginners. Second off, carnivorous plant seed rarely take 100 percent, so you rarely have all of the species germinate. Third off, terrariums are the best way to kill carnivorous plants by promoting fungus, reducing the amount of sun they can recieve, and the drainage problems of terrariums promote bacterial infection to boot. Oh, one other point is that carnivorousplants take years to grow to a good size, so is also terrible for those of us with little patience. Some of the seeds might even take 6 months to actually sprout if at all. If you keep the kit, try stratifying them again for 8 weeks as carnivorousplants advised and then when you take it out of the fridge, ditch the terrarium top, drill some holes in the bottom and place it in a tray of 1 inch water under good window or florescent light and hope for the best. You can never tell how long the seeds they sent you in those little gimmick kits have been sitting around in cold strorage. The only stay viable for about a year or two. The Venus Flytrap seeds do not need stratification, but can survive cold overwintering, so it wont hurt anything to keep them cold, but that kit did not even tell you that the Flytrap seeds did not need stratification I bet. The other North Amrican seeds from the pitcher plants and sundews will need stratification for sure. Without cold, damp conditions their seed coats do not break down and allow them to germinate. If you are interested in growing carnivorous plants, get a real bargain by trading or asking for plants from growers here or by buying from a specialist nursery and obtaining adult plants with no nonsense instructions or silly terrariums to start with. Not many carnivorous plants need a terrarium to grow well (only a few of the finicky tropicals) in most environments.

She's adorable!! Coda had a thing for underwear the first year we got her. I feel ya on the bra thing. It's only really horrible when you have guests and you have to tell them to make sure they really keep their personal underthings hidden well, or the dog will eat them, haha. Congrats on the new baby. It's their mischevious ways that make them so loveable.

I'm sorry to hear this Diane. (((Diane))). I hope you get home and are able to talk to Mom again one more time. I also pray she has a peaceful passing. I'm sure Hospice will keep her comfortable.
I'm also sad to hear about your step-niece and the terrible way she was murdered.
It's a sad, and disgusting, world we're in.
