I am working through Thanksgiving right now, then I will think about Christmas. I will be cooking both meals for the most part. I will not have a list of goodies like yours as I am most likely much older than you are and don't have the energy for doing that much any more.

I bought a lot of 'generic' cookie/desert making ingredients already, but really don't have a list of what I'm going to make yet. I do know that I will make the peanut butter blossom cookies (those are the ones with the peanut butter cookie dough rolled in a ball then baked, and a chocolate kiss or chocolate start put in the top when they come out of the oven). Those seem to be favorites with everyone.

Otherwise, I bought pecans (lots of them), walnuts, coconut, chocolate chips and chocolate starts, chocolate and white chocolate almond bark, caramels, chocolate stars.... and have yet to decide what will be made from them :-)

I tend to do a real Christmas Cookie blowout every 2-3 years (not every year) and this year might be one of those, if I get time. I usually make a combination of old favorites plus several new recipes.

I'm doing Thanksgiving first, still shopping for my Turkey day feast. I'll think about Christmas later. My closest food store is already selling live Christmas trees (in pots with soil) .

As DD is pregnant this year, and babysitting for extra income, we got together at her house last week to make cookies for a bake sale. I think we may do that for Christmas cookies.

I am keeping Christmas extra calories down to a minimum this year as I have no will power and am way too fluffy for my own good. I will not be baking. Instead I will get a veggie and fruit tray.

Tami...do you have a good Buckeye recipe? My mom used to make them dipped in parafin wax...I tried to make them without it and they weren't as good. Thanks!

HMM again YogaLady does a lazy holiday. Dinner is potluck. We have 3 vegetarians and 7 meat eaters, so I cook a small ham, all of the snacky before dinner foods. DD#1 and DIL each bring a side dish that everyone loves and must have at the holidays. DD#2 she makes TONs of vegetarian food we use that as sides also. She also makes 2-3 vegan desserts. Everyone used to being way too much of everything~~and my DD#2 and her BF come here and cooked huge amounts of stuff, that everyone loved. So I just cut down on what sides I fix and just have the other 2 gals each bring 1 item~~I love it, it is so easy for me and I feel so much less stress;)

I usually make cookie platters for the neighbors but this year I'm making baskets. At least that's the plan. The baskets will hold small loaves of:

Banana bread
Poppyseed bread (tastes like almond)
Marilyn C's cherry-pineapple bread
Also:
A jar of my fire and ice pickles
Roll of homemade summer sausage (if I can find tender-quick
Chex lemon buddies

I'm going to make pizzelles, kiffles and pumkin rolls.

Not sure how much of this will actually be for Christmas day, since we are going to DS's house and baking may not be required. But I am baking for a fundraising bake sale on Dec. 1 for my mother's former personal care home and will also be wrapping up a variety of goodies to give to family members as gifts. Here is what I plan to make:
1. Christmas fruit cake.
2. Lemon squares.
3. Cheddar cheese "cookies."
4. Cherry kuchen.
5. Pecan dulce de leche cookies.
6. Lime and Earl Grey tea loaf.
7. Demerara sugar shortbread.
8. Coconut raspberry bars.
9. Peanut butter cookies with jam.

10. Brownie brittle (thank you for the recipe, Glenda!)
11. Perhaps some kind of sugar cookie.

One holiday at a time please. Hate seeing Christmas junk before Halloween. Will run the cookie factory on Black Friday, down to about 25 dozen these days, just enough for snacking. (NO shopping, ugh.)
I see people asking for recipes. Isn't that what the Recipe Forum is for?? But honestly, for this site, the Kitchen is the most active forum. If you have something relavent to the topic posted elsewhere, just include the link to it.
Love the PB Balls/Chocolate, but have no idea why a blob of chocolate would be called a "Buckeye"(??)

Buckeyes are are about the size of the candy balls and they are very deep brown. I have some on my back hillside.

I would love to get all of these recipes too. As soon as they are ready for posting, I will include links to all those I am baking. We in Canada already have Thanksgiving out of the way (happened in October), so many of us have Christmas planning on our minds.

Glenda_AL, the cornmeal cookies are from Giada and Food Network. I usually make half with glaze and half without glaze as some people prefer a less sweet cookie. They are gluten-free, BTW. I'll put the link below.

You must add paraffin to the chocolate to make them glossy & good. It takes a quarter of a block of paraffin the chocolate.

Old fixer, the peanut butter balls dipped in chocolate look like the nut from the buckeye tree and the nut is the nut for the state of Ohio which is where I live. And that is what Ohioans call the p b balls.

This is the Buckeye cookie recipe we use.

Buckeye Cookies

3# powedered sugar (12 cups)
1# butter
1 jar peanut butter approx. 1 1/2#
3T vanilla

Mix together and roll in balls, about 1". DO NOT CREAM THE BUTTER

20 oz. semi sweet chocolate
1/2 cake paraffin was
Melt in double boiler

You may want to chill the balls before dipping. It's been years since I've made them.

I "might" have a recipe for these in bar form, but I'm not sure. Mom has a hair appointment at noon, so I need to leave shortly so can't look to long.

If anyone wants the recipes for the other cookies we will make, let me know. I'll post them later

Oldfixer, we have shared recipes here for years, it's just part of the KT family. And yes, a lot of us visit the cooking forum also, and share there, but not necessarily the same recipes.

Here is the recipe for Lime and Tea loaf. I used Earl Grey tea when I made it and didn't use the nuts because I wanted a more uniformly textured loaf.

Lime and Tea Loaf

1 cup sugar
6 tbsp. shortening
2 eggs
1 ý cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
ý tsp. salt
2 tsp. lime zest
ý cup cold strong Earl Grey (or other flavor) tea
ý cup chopped toasted almonds
1/4 cup sugar
2 tbsp. lime juice

Cream sugar, shortening and eggs together thoroughly. Combine flour, baking powder, salt and lime zest. Mix well. Add alternately with cold tea to creamed mixture, starting and ending with flour mixture. Fold in nuts. Put in greased parchment paper-lined 8 ý x 4 ý inch loaf pan. Level the top. Bake at 350 degrees for about 1 hour or until cake tester inserted in center comes out clean. Leave in pan. Heat remaining sugar and lime juice until sugar is dissolved. Pierce loaf all over the top with wooden pick. Spoon syrup over bread slowly, letting small amounts sink into loaf before adding more. Cool loaf before removing from pan.

Sadly, both of us are diabetic so I avoid temptation.

sjerin - You're very welcome. I don't remember how pronounced the tea flavor is, since I made the loaf a couple of years ago and it was for a bake sale, so didn't taste a lot of it. I don't mind at all if you send this to your dd. Nice to have bakers in the family!
