You should see a dermatologist, and obtain a prescription for something that will help. I know that there is an oil that you put on your scalp at bedtime, then you cover your head with a shower cap. Sleep that way and then in the morning, you shampoo it out. The oil is available by prescription only.

ask the dermatologist about Talconex. It is EXPENSIVE, but the manufacturer has a rebate that pays your insurance copay. It works wonders; a bit greasy, but I use it every couple days at bedtime and it really helps the itching!

Are you sure it's psoriasis, does it hurt? Psoriasis hurts. It could be a dermatitis or even eczema, you need to see a dermatologist.

Can you shampoo only once or twice a week for a month, using only T-Sal? Do you use anything else on your hair -- conditioners, styling gels, spray? Some of these contain preservatives (like formaldehyde!) that harm your skin.

My DH was referred by a general dermatologist to his 'guru' dermatologist. This man prescribed Clobex shampoo until DH's scalp improved enough to just use the T-Sal. The active ingredient in Clobex is clobetasol propionate 0.05%. It's made by Galderma Labs in Fort Worth, TX.

Hi, I have never posted here at KT but have in other area's on GW. I have scalp psoriasis. I have in it small spots on a few parts of my scalp.
I use coconut oil on the dry patches. Before I wash my hair I rub the oil on the dry spots and let it sit awhile. It really softens the patch and sometimes I take a small comb and gently lift the patch off after it has softened. I then wash my hair.
Actually, the coconut oil is a great conditioner for your hair so I do pull the oil through my hair at the same time.
My dermatologist said that she recommends the coconut oil for scalp psoriasis.
If you have large area's of the scalp covered in P I would not use the comb on it. I just wanted you to know what I do for the small spots that I have. Hope this helps.
I can't use the shampoos that are prescription as they are too harsh for me.

I have psoriasis (or shall I say had) too. I used medication for the longest time and now go gluten free and that has cleared it. I actually eat at least one tablespoon of coconut oil a day. For shampoo I occasionally use Dr. Bronners (a natural cleanser) when I feel the tightness coming on but all my shampoos are as natural as possible - nitrite, paraben and pthalate free. Going gluten free has also cleared my body of any spots. I had thinning hair too before going gluten free and now (1 year later) I would say my ponytail is twice the thickness:). I don't have any flaking at all now.

I have seen many a dermatologist over the years. I have Guttate psoriasis, which was made clear after bad reaction with strep throat (head to toe rash).

There never seemed to be any clear treatment in the past. There used to be something called P&S liquid that you used befor shampoo-super greasy, but did the job. I haven't seen it in stores for years. I don't want to take steroids. I don't use anything else on my hair except conditioner, don't even blow dry.

Big difference between oral steroids and topical ones.

The Psoriasis is caused by something in food you eat. Most often its gluten, but it can be something else. So, you should change your eating habits, start eating different food and it should cure your Psoriaris.
I was struggling with Psoriasis also and many people were telling me the same - that I have to change the food I eat, eat healthier... So I was searching for some more advice and found this site psoriasisfreeforgood.net and those advices helped me.
