Comments (31)It looks like Tints of Nature hair color (home box color) might be a little better chemically than Wella. The same company also has a professional salon version called Organic Colour Systems. Henna can be another option, I think some Hennas use Indigo, so they can make more colors than just reds, like browns, and possibly black. I've read that with some of the more chemical free shampoos, your hair can go through sort of a "detox" phase for a month or less where you can experience greasy hair, dry hair, dandruff, etc. before it gets back to feeling normal. Hard water can also affect the shampoos, but there are things you can add that can be helpful with this. For really chemical free shampoo and other beauty/personal care products you might want to check out Bumble and Bee Organic, Real Purity, or Natural Joy Beauty (sells some of the products from the other two companies along with others). Natural Joy Beauty and Bumble and Bee both sell samples of some of their products. You can checkout the companies on facebook too, I know the owner of Bumble and Bee Organic is active on there answering people's questions on her products or chemical questions on their personal care products and make up, since she has a chemical background. http://www.bubbleandbee.com/ http://www.realpurity.com/ http://www.naturaljoybeauty.com/servlet/StoreFront...See MoreDo you shampoo daily?
Comments (46)I think that older people tend to bathe/shower less often because their skin is thinner and more sensitive... I can attest to that. My mother's skin was so paper thin and lacking in elasticity, there were multiple times her forearm skin would literally tear from dabbing with a towel. Multitude of reasons; aging, medications, forgetting to keep hydrated by drinking water, etc. etc. But I digress... My hair gets fully washed at night, then rinsed in a.m. so I can dry/style. So twice daily it's wet. (Summer more). My skin/hair needs moisture (don't drink enough water, I know that). Oily is clear on the other end of the spectrum. My concern was stress (death of my mom); age (hormone shift); regular coloring & twice daily rinsing is all taking a toll. I'm on my 4th night of Sally's 'wen' like product. First night, wow, hair was like pure silk when rinsed. Next morning, fluffy, full, oh so soft and shiny. Day 2, not so much. (But I blew it the night before by putting a small amount of oil on my scalp, ran through my hair, let dry before bed. The oil is helping, but too many nights in a row is too much.) The next night I skipped the oil, did the Sally condition clean, next morning my hair didn't feel as nice. (I used product on low end of amounts suggested as an experiment.) Last night I used Sally's, increased amount I used, then when out of shower put oil on again, and when I woke up this morning I did my usual rinse before drying/styling, only this time I put a dime size amount of Sally's product on my hair, massaged in and rinsed. Much better. It's fluffy, soft, shiny & silky clear to the ends and it swings ;) (I have no styling products in it, but it sure looks like I do.) Guess I'll have to fine tune the routine. But figure I'm saving a lot of wear 'n tear on my hair with a less harsh shampoo, no styling products, oil for added moisture a few nights a week. Oh, and something I should have done long ago was get one of those mega wide tooth combs for combing the product in the shower. I got Sally's "Beach comb" set. One for in the shower, one for when I get out. That also saves a lot of wear and tear over a regular comb or nylon (non-bristle) brush. We'll see how it goes, but just after a few days it's a lot less dry looking....See MoreInsulate Ductwork
Comments (2)I am trying to follow what you described. For 4 years you had a damper closed and had poor air flow to upper floor. You open the damper and now the second floor can cool down in the summer. Obviously this damper should have never been closed in the first place. Now it is winter so I would think you want this damper to remain open. When it was open did notice the upstairs was warming up faster than it did previously? Believe it or not, the icicles forming on your roof is a good thing. This means your attic is staying cold and little heat is escaping. Take a look at your neighbor's houses. The ones that no snow or ice on their roofs have a problem with heat escaping, the ones that are covered with ice and snow are well insulated. What may be happening is when you close the damper, the duct work behind it leaking and the warm air is escaping and rising into the attic. This is keeping the roof line warmer and melting the icicles. My suggestion would be to keep the damper open and enjoy the heat inside the house. Visually inspect any exposed duct work for leaks between seams. You can seal these yourself or hire someone to do it....See MoreBad smell ONLY when the AC is on and ONLY in one room
Comments (15)I'm having the same issue except I live in an apartment building with central air. Depending on what, where, how, when, why --- your apartment could be surrounded by other apartments, with other people and their living habits. Typically an apartment is separated by a sheet rock wall... there could be small cracks or gaps at the base of those walls, thru flooring possibly and or other possibilities. (They are often built *cheap* for the lack of a better more beautiful word that someone won't be offended by... *usually the builder or the apt. owner*) I say this because we might draw a builder into this conversation. LOL. (fine dining, fine accommodations, contractual obligations don't spell anything good for apartment owners.) When AC / Heat turns on in your apt. as well as other apts near yours the rooms of such are blown up like balloons and in some cases sucked into a vacuum drawing air anywhere from whence it can get it. If one apt is blowing and another apt is sucking? GIGO. Garbage In / Garbage Out... the net result is more or less smells collide among other things like odd noises. This is yet another reason why apartment living isn't for everyone. Not to knock you, but to give you context as to WHY?...See MoreJasdip
