i have a kindle and love it. i have over 150 books on it, so far, and most of them were free. i don't go anywhere without it. have read more books, since christmas, when i got it, than i have in the past 30 years. good luck, with whatever you choose. ;)

I have a Kindle 3 keyboard one. Not the most recent one that just came out. I have about 400 books on mine and most of them were free. The secret is that there are a few websites that you need to keep an eye on. They announce when the books (with descriptions)are free. These books may be free for only a short time....sometimes just a couple of hours, so you grab them when you can. Sometimes popular books get reduced dramatically in price for just a short time as well as a promotion.

I've had a Kindle for a couple of years, and I like it. I volunteer at a used bookstore where the books range from 50 cents to $3, so I do buy a lot of them. I read both regular books and Kindle books. But for larger books, like 350 pages and up, it really is handy to have them on the Kindle rather than wrestle with a hunky book. Also the K is more compact to cart around to read waiting anywhere, on the plane, etc. I like to read in bed and the Kindle is good for that too, pages are easier to turn, K easier to hold than a regular book. I'm very selective about purchasing books for the Kindle, usually buying the larger ones. I've watched the free ones over time but have found little there that I like.

I have a Kindle 3g with keyboard and I love it. I have the graphite color because I like the way the page looks with it as opposed to the white ones.

Don't immediately rule out the ones with ads. The ads are only on your home page and are done almost as artistically as the prints on the regular Kindles. I shop Amazon al the time and the offers are oriented to the Amazon shopper. my Kindle with ads has paid for itself. I've only had it a couple of months.

The free and 99 cent books have me pleasantly surprised, reading books I normally wouldn't think of. Some of them are quite good.

I thought about buying a kindle, but I think I'll wait until the yard sales and flea markets quit selling books. I usually find them for 10 cents up to a dollar. Some rummage sales has them for a dollar a bag. I usually stock up on different books for the winter. After I read them, I just pitch them out.

I, too have found that many of the free or 99 cent books are really good.

Now that Amazon Kindle has allowed library lending and if you have patience for it, I find that there is no need to be buying expensive books. Every day Amazon has the Daily Deal and most of them are 99 cents or free. Some books are interesting, some others arn't. Some of the Daily Deals are $2.99 but all are under $5.00. I have read and greatly enjoyed alot of the new authors that have their books at .99 cents or free. I even joined booklending.com and that has worked flawlessly.
