I purchased the Voyage several months ago and like it very much. My favorite is still my first one but it died....I also loved my Paperwhite but that one bit the dust early on. If I had to do it over again I would buy the Paperwhite because it's less expensive.

I love my Apple iPad mini because not only is it a reader, but I can check email, surf the net and even post comments on here. It's so easy to borrow books and download quickly to the Kindle app, or I can read on Overdrive or use other book reading apps. I love when I travel, most of the time I leave my laptop at home and just take the iPad mini.

My library owns several different e reader that they lend out. I was able to borrow a couple and use them at home to see which one I prefer. Maybe a library near you has this option? Also check out Consumer's Reports - they evaluate e readers.

In Kindle, and all the other reading apps, I can change the font, lighting etc. to customize the book.

Kindle Paperwhite. Consider it a "book/library" and nothing else but what is wonderful about it is the battery life, literally weeks which I love.
And it is so, so easy to use.
I have enough gadgets that need charging all the time, this is the easiest.

I have -- and very much enjoy -- a Kindle Paperwhite. The new version coming out now has better screen resolution and adjustable lighting for reading in dim light.

I love my kindle paperwhite too. The battery life is great and the screen lighting adjustment is very good.

I now use my samsung tablet as an eReader, because I like having one device to check email Google and read on. however the battery life is only a day or so. I have previously used kobos and Sony Readers, both of which I liked.

Another Kindle Paperwhite fan. It's easy on the eyes, and unlike an iPad or even Kindle Fire you can read it outside in bright sunlight, which is important to me because I love to read on the beach while on vacation. I have the 3G version which allows me to download books just about anywhere in the world without using WiFi, though it does have WiFi too.

Calibre is a free e-book management program that is easily downloaded. I love it.

I currently have a Kindle touch. When it dies, I will absolutely get the Paperwhite. Sometimes when I read in bed, my lamp bothers DH so I have to use a clip on light and I sometimes have trouble with positioning it. The Paperwhite would let me read in bed without bothering DH. The battery lasts a very long time and I love the dictionary feature for looking up words instantly. With a book, I would have to get up, find the dictionary and look up the word (which I would not do) or I would write down the word and look it up later forgetting the context I hand seen it used. I love my Kindle and now I need to look at Calibre.

Wow- thank you all. Clearly the overwhelming favorite is the Paper white. I am not really sure that I would need the 3 G but what do I know? I am heavily leaning towards it but am also thinking about a tablet. I do like the lower price of the paper white....You have all been very helpful!

I use an iPad mini and had a Nook before that. If they'd had the Kindle Paper white when I first got an ereader I would have purchased that. I tried the other basic Kindle at the time but had to return it because it wasn't bright enough and gave me a headache. If all you want the device for is reading go with the Kindle.

I have three iPads but they are impossible to read on outside. I will never give up having A Kindle despite all the other devices I have! I can't wait to hear which one you decide on but I will bet it's a Paper White.

I have an old Nook and dislike it because of the weight. I do like to read on my I[ad mini, but as others have said, you cannot use it outside due to the glare. I prefer real books except for travel.

I also have a tablet, but it is much heavier than the Paperwhite, which is another reason I prefer reading on the Kindle.

I do wonder if I would prefer having the email checking part of the tablet- but am I understanding that the tablets( ipads or whatever) do not have the screen I could read in the sun? Paper white does? Because I love to sit out on my deck and read.... (for the few months a year that it's possible.) Am I understanding this correctly?

Exactly. Tablets are as easy to read in the sun as your smartphone (if you have one) . Which is to say not very easy.

Yes Sheila. A Kindle has a screen that looks like a page from a book and is not at all problematic reading it outside. I also love that you can choose the font and also the font size. Once you own a Kindle you will wonder how you managed without it.

I've had friends offer to loan me a book. I turn them down because I'd rather read it on my Kindle. :)
