Good Deeds

I know this is vague... but I'm looking for some input specifically without providing a lot of details so I can maybe get a different perspective on something.

How do you weigh doing good deeds with being taken advantage of? In other words, if at some point you are being treated with such disrespect that it is making you sick while trying to do a good deed for a third party, should you just give up... or does the hardship of having to do the good deed make it even a better good deed?

Should you give up if you are being insulted and your time is being wasted or would that make you want and need to help out even more?

I just recently heard something that suggested that in fact when something like this happens, that it is the devil present and that you shouldn't give up or run away from doing something good just because the devil so to say gets in your way. But, at some point, it can kind of become an abusive situation that I would think you would need to leave. What do you think?
