I like jokes, but in good taste. And I wouldn't want my daughter to see any of these kinds of jokes, over my shoulder, on a Family Forum.

Sorry you were offended Homemade but if you scroll through some of the other posts you will understand that this is not a family forum. At least not in the sense that young children should be reading or posting here. Perhaps if you have young ones you should teach them it is impolite to read over someone's shoulder. Manners not taught early on will do them much more harm than reading a mildly racy joke. If they are old enough to read and understand it then they've heard much worse from other kids by now.

Thank you Wildchild, but I consider this a "family" of sorts, of people who talk to each other when you can't talk to someone at home, express opinions or just talk. I admit I am a lurker, but I do enjoy reading everything here.

I find you to be a bit forward with your attitude with me. I am actually very tough on my daughter when it comes to manners, in fact she has more manners then many children, her age, I happy to say. She is 3 years old and an only child, therefore she could be predisposed to a selfish and mean spirit, but she is not, through carefully watching her manners and attitude. I do not want my child to grow up self centered and spoiled!!
My point is, what if she was older and happened to be around while I was reading the joke? How do I explain that content to her? I am trying to keep that smut out of my home, no good manners will come of that kind of talk. I find it hurtful and rude that you just assume that my daughter is without proper manners. I believe that manners dictate that if someone is going to post a possibly tasteless joke on this forum, that they have to write a Warning in the Subject Line. I find it interesting that you did not acknowledge that in your post, as it is good manners to give a warning to all others reading it who might be offended by its content. It is a nice curtesy after all. And interestingly, you find it "mildly racy". So you found it amusing and funny. And you found no fault in its content. Just what is too racy for your standards? Everyone has their standards, I know, but please respect mine, as they are my right to have some.

You make my point exactly. First off to bring your child into it should not be an issue since as you say she is only 3. If you were offended by it why not just say so? As for the warnings there are many things discussed on this forum that are not for a child's eyes or ears. Some peeps have posted some very personal things here over the years. Adults, rant,use double entendres and yes sometimes post jokes that not everyone will like or enjoy. But to expect one to post content warnings on everything is a bit too much IMHO. This is an adult forum and it is easy enough to see where something is going after the first few sentences for most. If you are offended by what most mainstreamers would consider "mildly racey" then there are many forums on the net who will happily provide far more censorship than this one does. This one would rate maybe a PG13 at best. You make it sound like we are posting a bunch of R rated material. Yes I am an extremely forward and direct speaking person. I pride myself on that. homemadecountrylife has the right to protect her child from what she considers to be in poor taste, but that's her job to do and not put that responsibility on someone else. Just as in flipping the tv channels or turning the dial on the radio, you have to be careful. But, it will be very hard to insulate any child from the "racy" things in life. All one has to do is pull into a parking lot to hear far worse than what is in the contents of that joke.

Anyway, I thought the joke was hilarious. :)

OH, btw... just the subject line could give one pause if they're that cautious, I feel.

I found the joke extremely funny and not at all offensive for an adult forum. It would not have been appropriate to post on a children's forum. All kinds of topics are discussed on this forum and everyone has the right to read or scroll on by (SOB). Mrs. Micki there is no need to apologize. You did nothing wrong and made some of us laugh.

I wouldn't frequent a forum that was pornish (cool new word there, huh), but neither would I sit at a virtual table with little children.

Wildchild, I AM saying that I don't like it. I said it in my first post. And my child will always be an issue with me, because I am her parent and I need to closely guard her heart and mind, that is part of being a Mommy/Daddy. She may be only 3 now, but our words and thoughts eventually come out. I don't want to accidentally swear in front of her. I don't want her to talk like that, I think it's crude and unnecessary. It is not much to ask that someone post a warning, its a courtesy and an act of kindness. If I didn't care what my daughter was hearing or seeing, I would be an irresponsible parent, and useless. Are we not here,on earth, to raise our children to have better standards then we did/do, and to be better in society? Shouldn't we want better for them? This context does nothing in the way of edifying their minds. I would never want her to accidentally see that, just because of me accidentally thinking it would be a funny clean joke.
I do not think that the subject line was informative at all on how the joke content was going to go, or I would have ignored it completely. I think that there should be a warning in the subject line. And the reason I do not support a joke like this is that it pokes/makes fun of a situation of where a spouse is cheating on the other and making a joke of it, and tossing in a pseudo swear word.
Amazing as it sounds, I have not been offended yet by what is written on this forum, because I am very careful about what I read. What smut comes into your head, must come out sooner or later. So, the title of this subject was : "hope you all think this is as funny as i did". That title gave nothing away at all about how rude and classless of a joke it would be. I find it interesting that everyone thinks it's ok. I don't know what jokes are like these days and if that's a "good laugh" these days, I shudder to think what is truly said out there!
To the OP, I am not upset at you, I would just like to request that you post a warning next time, please. I just don't want that kind of content in my head since I refrain from speaking like that, and it will do me no good to read it.
I apologize to anyone who I have offended and for being upset, but this is a free country and it is my right to ask to have a warning in the subject line. We will agree to disagree, at this point.

Well as someone who has grown children with very high standards I must say you are in for some real shockers unless you plan to keep your child under constant wraps with no access to other children or people or media her entire life.

For example when my son was around seven I found myself in the awkward position of having him ask me what a "bj" was. It was written out in full on one of those little flippy folded paper games children make up. A little girl who was just a few years older wrote it. She was a child of parents who thought "darn" was a curse word and who wasn't allowed to go to sex education classes at school.

I was furious and marched over to her father,showed him the paper and watched incredulously as he denied his little darling could know such a thing even though it was staring him in the face.

Then I had to explain in less crude terms what the words meant to my little son as I have never avoided the hard questions with my children.

BTW that little girl grew up to be the loose teen of the neighborhood. Pregnant at 15 following the neighborhood "barbie princess" who got knocked up at fourteen. Nice middle class girls with all the things money could buy. Except decent, honest parenting.

So come back and we'll chat when your kidlet is grown. Mine are and they'll tell you I did just fine. And I never had to censor their lives to do it.

You click on those when you find you have opened a page you are not comfortable with. For someone that doesn't like what is written on this page, you sure seem to spend a lot of time on it.

How funny! That's a GREAT joke, mrs. micki, and I do hope you and others will continue to post jokes like this in the future.

This is a site for adults to gather and talk ... sharing jokes, life experiences, pet peeves, fears, health concerns, accomplishments ... anything we're comfortable in sharing. I would hate to think of how much would have been missed if everything we've written about over the years had to be censored *just in case* someone's child logged on or read over their parent's shoulder. Shoot, just our health concerns alone could make a person blush! If the adult doesn't like what's written the adult can elect to close that post and move to another one.

homemadecountrylife, you'll find that many of the jokes we share here have a little *punch* to them, and can be considered racy by others. Since so many of us *DO* find them humorous, we probably won't be putting a disclaimer on them and it'll be up to you to do your own censoring.

I guess if you had your way homemadecountrylife, all we'd be able to tell are elephant jokes. Oh wait, you're not offended by elephants are you?

By the way, "country life" consists of birth, death and yes, sex, and guys yelling profanities when a tractor runs into the side of their barn. You best get used to it.

Maybe this should have been posted under "Hot Topics". I'm personally not bothered by it. As far as I know, toddlers don't read the Kitchen Table forum. In the morning they're watching the TellyTubbies on TV, maybe even the gay baby.

I don't know about any body else, but as I was half-way thru the joke, I could see where it was going. There would have been ample warning to hit the back button.

By the way, I thought it was hilarious and forwarded it to friends.

I too, forwarded it along! BTW my email program tells me if I am sending anything "offensive"; I honestly don't know what they base it on, and I actually expected that it might warn me with this joke, but it didn't. Interesting. Is Spike around? I don't think he would have caught it!

Another vote for this being a forum frequented by adults. Kids are going to be exposed to alot worse other places on the net and in real life. It's going to be a reality check.

I'm another one who thought it was a good joke and no warning was needed. Homemade, while I can understand your desire to protect your child, I think that you are a bit uptight and I can't help but wondering what is going to happen in the future when she comes home saying much worse stuff. While I agree that this is a family forum to a degree, I would call it an adult family forum. I'm of the belief that if I can't repeat it to my grandma, I shouldn't repeat it here. This joke was one joke both my grandmas would have told.

I would have laughed out loud, but IÂve seen this joke before. ItÂs still funny.

It also followed every criterion for posting on the GardenWeb and ThatHomeSite forums.

Homemadecountrylife  you may have found this particular post offensive  but you donÂt get to police this forum. This is a commercially run forum. If you donÂt like it, well, leave. The moderators of IVillage do police the forum, and see nothing wrong with the post. I found your post more offensive than the original post, simply because you are trying to force your viewpoint on others.

If you donÂt want to read this stuff  then just donÂt. This forum is certainly not meant for children, so don't expose your toddler to it.

1) I wouldn't be reading jokes outloud off a forum to a three year old.
2) Older than three - I'd be policing myself on what I view on the web if the child were around.

My problem is when the subject line contains a profanity. Doesn't happen here, but on other forums.

My take is...
why is she surfing the net with her three year old there "over my shoulder,"?
I used the internet when my kid was asleep.

If the child is hanging over your shoulder, waiting for you to get done surfing... get off the 'net!

I feel like I am a good parent also, that is why I forwarded this joke to my kids and my step kids.
