Good for you! I voted today too, by mailing in my completed ballot ... I typically do mail-in voting just for the convenience of it.

We did our absentee ballots last Monday. We started doing it years ago because they kept moving the voting place.

Boy, be very, very careful if you used absentee ballots. I did once, and discovered (thanks to piles of mail addressed to 'dear absentee voter') that the names of absentees are apparently available to anyone who wants them. Using an absentee ballot is an advertisement that you either won't be home on election day or are too frail to get out--either way, that's NOT something you want the general public to be able to get their hands on. Please--if you're not going to be home on election day and you've used an absentee ballot, have someone responsible sit in your home for you. If you're in poor health, again--have someone big and strong in the house with you on election day, just in case. good luck.

Me? I always vote at the polls. I'd skip voting rather than take the chance of advertising my house is ripe for burglars to break in. I'll never use an absentee ballot ever again.

Azzalea, thanks for the heads up. If it wasn't for the absentee ballots, we wouldn't be able to get out to vote. Sometimes you have to do what you can and hope for the best. Dottie

I prefer to stand in line on Election Day

We'll go to the courthouse and vote there, they allow it for a few days before the actual election day. It makes it easier because on election day the whole town votes at one single place and the lines can get long. We have to show ID and they match up our signatures to past siggies, so I think it's really safe and legit.

I think they offer limited early voting here because it's easier than sending out absentee ballots to people who just don't want to go the polls, they would make us lie to get one and we weren't comfy doing that. (That may have changed in the last few years and I'm not saying that any one of you is a liar, don't misunderstand me!)

Flamey here on the left coast they are pushing absentee ballots for everyone. I would much rather see it stay like it was in the past when people were only able to request absentee ballots if they were going out of town or had some hardship that would make it difficult for them to exercise their right to vote.

I believe that making it easy to vote promotes voter fraud. Voting is a right but it is also a privilege and some tend to forget that.

Me? I'd like to see voter registration cards be issued that would have to be updated every few years.

We have early voting here, too. But I like the excitement of voting on "The Day". We just vote up at the club house so it's no traffic or anything. (Although there are lots of people so there is waiting.)

we get to start early voting on monday, we'll be in line mon after work! i don't trust absentee ballots. hey i live in FL can you blame me LOL plus i grew up in chicago politics where we vote early and often ;-)))!

Our state is pushing them too..some times there isn't a choice..everyone gets a mail in ballot..I think the last primaries were that way....I've been an absentee ballot holder for a 4 or so years..it was much easier when the children were small...I often didn't vote because it was such a hassle to drag them along..This was the perfect answer to it..now my husband and mom (all at our address) are on absentee..my mom is temporarily in CA..so I have to send hers down..but after I read the pamplet..I'll send them down on Monday or Tuesday.

We have early voting here and I did that last week. Because there will be such a big turnout for this election, there will be very long lines on election day.

I love standing in line on election day, it's my most patriotic moment closing that curtain! Usually we go early before the lines get too long, but if it seemed to be a long wait, I'd go back later. Never had to do that before.

Our absentee voting is like Flamey's - it really is supposed to be for folks who cannot be at the polls and cannot vote early. There is plenty of opportunity here to early vote and it requires the same as regular voting - your voter registration card and signature.
I do hope that everyone who takes the time to get informed, votes.
Be sure to check your local and state offices and issues that may be on the ballot.

So glad to see this post. I spent 20 years in the military and almost go ballistic when someone says "Why should I vote? Your vote only cancels out mine" or some other dumb statement. My aunt used to use that line on my mom till mom finally had enough and told her to shut and stop complaining if she didn't vote.

When we lived in FL, they were always mailing us new registration cards with updated, new polling places, it constantly changed. Here in AR, you don't even GET a card. You go to the county seat, register, show ID and sign a book. That's it. Then you're in the book that they have at the table when you go to vote and you sign next to your original (copied) signature and they compare them and look at your license, even though they know you're you. It's very simple and basic, but I suppose it's efficient and safe. I worry about voter fraud too, but I figure it would take a lot of effort to vote fraudulently and that not TOO many people would be willing to make that effort and risk jail time if they're caught out. That's why I'm not terribly worried about the 200,000 questionable application/requests filled out in Ohio, of those 200,000 I wonder how many really intend to vote more than once? (I am upset that 200,000 cards aren't going to be verified, though, because I think some punishment is in order for just trying that crap.)

I don't like the flood of absentee ballots or mail ballots for the same reasons as stated above- too much potential to fall into someone else's hands.

Voting is another topic on which I have very strong feelings. I firmly believe if you live in this country you have, not a "right" since we determined that there are no "rights" only privileges! ;) or a "privilege", but rather a duty. You have a duty to vote in my mind. It bugs me so much to hear people complain and then say they didn't vote. I've quit being "nice" about it. I tell them if you don't vote, don't complain. Simple as that. The, er, privilege to complain comes only with performing your duty to vote.

There's all kinds of excuses not to vote but it comes down to convenience and laziness it seems. But interestingly the same inconvenience and laziness disappears for other things.

Be sure to vote. I'm very proud that Minnesota is a leader in the voter turnout and almost always is one of the top. "Minnesota 'Nice'" or "Minnesota 'Living Up To Our Duty'"?? :)

Vote. It's very important. Have a say in your future. And I hope you'll be an informed voter and use more than just commercials. Compare and contrast. Sometimes the decision is easy, sometimes not so easy. But that's all part of the duty.

I ordered one yesterday. You can do it now here in FL and turn it in. I'm just not too sure I will be able to get to the polls, so I'm going this route.
