Went to the Lung DR today....

have to go for a sleep apnea test tomorrow night,and back to the lung DR in 2 weeks for more tests.Remember when I was sick with the bad,deep,hacking cough? Well..I've had a terrible pain in my side(rib area) since then.I thought I pulled a muscle from coughing.Turns out I collapsed the bottom left hand side of my lung.Who'd have thought coughing could do that? No wonder I hurt.After he does these tests he will treat it I guess.Not sure yet what he's going to do.He has to rule out COPD first.He doesn't think it's that though.Meanwhile....don't make me laugh...it hurts! LOL!

Oh you poor thing! Everytime you take a breath it must pull against the chest wall. Painful! I'm glad you've found a doctor who has discovered the problem.

At least a couple of you sound a bit harsh in your replies....Please remember this, it isn't necessarily about the test and please factor in the equation that she is tired...she is sick and tired or being sick and tired...She is sick and tired of having no energy, she is sick and tired of not being able to do the things that she wants to do, she is sick and tired of living half a life and not enjoying her family, friends and loved ones, she is sick and tired of living the life of an invalid, she is sick and tired of running back and forth to the doctors and to the hospitals. She is sick and tired of the expense and she is sick and tired of every day wondering if it's all worth it...Of course it is but sometimes it's hard to keep your eye on the prize. I know exactly how she feels...It's hard to justify another test when you have spent most of the last year in the doctors office...and you have had every inch of your body imaged, poked., prodded, medicated, injected..lubricated...etc etc Keep in mind that it's all very depressing as well...It's hard some days just to put one foot in front of the other...In the end, we all do what we have to to catch the ring....I know that there are others on this board that understand... I am sorry Bulldinkie that you are having to live this nightmare. I hope and pray that it is over and done with soon and that you are back to health quickly. You and your doctor will have to make the decision that is right for you...

I've used chapstick off and on for years and I have found the medicated kind to be very soothing. I don't use it all the time, just when I've been out in the wind. Riding in an air-conditioned car for long distances always chaps my lips too. I have sensitive skin and there are a lot of products I just can't use. I don't wear lipstick except for special occasions and sometimes not even then. Doris Day (you younger ones probably won't know even who she is though) said at one time that she covers her whole body with vaseline and sleeps in something like a body stocking and gloves. I don't know if she was married at the time but I bet that's a real turn-off for a guy, huh? But anyway, there are natural alternatives to petroleum products. Good old olive oil, for instance. Or open up a Vitamin E oil capsule and smear it on. I'm not sure about that "Tea Tree Oil" thing though. Is there really such a thing as a "Tea Tree"? It kind of tastes like Castor Oil with almond flavoring in it. The truth of the matter is, we none of us know what's in some of these products we put on our skin. And yes the makers of these products would most definitely sell us something that's not good for us (and charge us big bucks for it) because they don't give a rip about whatever damage it does as long as they don't get sued because of it. The almighty dollar is always the bottom line. We must be our own advocates. The best thing to do is to just keep it as simple as you can. Use as many one- or two-ingredient products as you can. Good old witch hazel is what I used as an astringent during my oily skin days. Buy things without fragrance and without artificial coloring whenever possible. The secret to good skin is actually good health.

I had to be gone when it was on today, taped it, and just now finished watching. Bizarre is a good description. There was a case against the head guy where I used to work. He was so arrogant and cocky about how the case would never be proven...he was innocent, etc. During hearings, he kept saying things like "I'm innocent, give me a lie detector test and I'll prove it". Well lawyers on the other side had had enough of him so finally said 'yes, and if you pass conclusively, my client will drop the case'. Oh, you should have seen him. At first he was all nervous, then he calmed greatly, and agreed. He honestly thought he could con the lie detector AND the administrator of the test. He failed so miserably, it wasn't one bit funny. But to this day, if anyone would question him, he'd say it was rigged so he'd fail. Shirley

That is just great news! I know how stressed you felt because of the blurriness and I am so happy the Doc assured you things are going well. I have my next appointment on sat afternoon. I think things are okay even though my right eye has become prone to watering and tearing often for no apparent reason. I see better everyday. LIL

Gee CR, it seems now that you are planning something important, all kinds of things are happening to you. I hope the lung is a quick fix so you will be ready for the next step in your plans.

Are you short of breath, or just hurting.

I've been short of breath since I had that cold bout 2 weeks ago.Figured it was just the cold hanging on.I should have gone to the DR right away but figured it was just a long time healing from it.I thought I might have torn a muscle or something from coughing so hard.But the pain kept getting worse.This was an appointment I had made about a month ago after the Stress test.I told him how bad I hurt and he thought I might have broken a rib from coughing so took x-rays and found this.I feel like I'm just falling apart! LOL!

HUGS Deb!!! I KNOW your pain!!

When I was 19 I had my right lung completely collapse...'spontanious pneumothorax'. I was in the hospital for about 5 days with that one. A year or so later the same lung collapsed 1/2 way...a few months later 1/2 again! I had surgery to repair the lung, 'pleurodesis'.

HOPEFULLY yours will 'inflate' on its own. Otherwise, they will probably insert a large needle and draw the air out of the area it shouldn't be in. Sounds worse than it really is.

They don't do the same kind of surgery that I had done 27 years ago. THANK GOD!!! It was the worst pain...I wouldn't even wish it on my worst enemy!!! (every time I would breathe, it would be excruciating pain!!) But, I am thankful to say, that it has never collapsed completely again. I have what are called 'blebs' on my lung, and they would pop and cause the collapse, I still have an area that they pop, but it (so far) has reinflated on its own many times.

Sorry CR....things like that can be scary...

You'll get all these things fixed....then you'll be good as new....and feeling much better.

You sound so much like me...waiting forever to go to a doctor. I can yell at ya girl for doing that...but I'd have to look in a mirror while I'm doing it.

So I'm thinking, it's a good thing maybe that your banding surgery is put-off for a bit, now there's no pressure to get to feeling better and healing up, CR. You take care and be careful, OK???

Get well just doesn't seem to cut it but it's the best I've got right now. I am cheering for you in the long run to make your dream come true when all is said and done.
